I'd love to skip the struggle and failure part and just be an actor right there where you have your own style and which directors want and request. Thats where life as an actor becomes awesome. And yours.
I love the tone and theme of the movie. It's just strange though, these "hardened" criminals who own the village seem so petty. They all have to squeeze into a single shitty car. They seem kind of just...thrown together. But then again, the thing is that the movie is about the undertone of over looked horror in an every day setting in a small town.
ill admit that big budget films are enjoyable to watch but its the films like dead mans shoes these days and the classic non-big budget films e.g. taxi driver that are really genuine, which is what big budget films lack
Well, you know? Things in one's community went wrong. Before you knew it there we're single parent families and drugs. So when I was offered the part in dead man's shoes I jumped at the chance! You see, I was once told by my parents to not run up the stairs, so naturally I know how to lie about things and- hence why I'm an actor.
SO SO true. This film is hardly known but my god, it is THE BEST THING EVER CAPTURED on film, including the amazing real life documentaries... everything. The acting and story line is like nothing i've ever seen before. I just cannot reccoment this film highly enough, words do not do it justice. THIS is the best film we have in our world.
paddy considine is a genius. whenever him and shane meadows get together, films like dead mans shoes are the result. one of the finest films ever made! incredible performance from paddy and i urge anyone who hasnt already seen them to watch romeo brass and le donk & scor-zay-zee. both alo brilliant films from the legend that is shane meadows
He knew which people hurt his brother as his brothers ghost/spirit was with him throughout the film, guiding him!hence the title DEAD MANS SHOES,Amazing film along with Romeo Brass.
A truly incredible piece of film making. Meadows created, not just a modern-classic, but an all-time classic. Deeply moving, darkly comedic and soul-searingly satisfying. Still, the finest movie I have ever seen.
just from watching 'dead man shoes' i find that considine is one of the greatest actors i've seen. as long as he gets the good roles, he deserves to get a huge amount more of recognition
try and check out "a room for romeo brass" if u already havnt. that was paddys first film and he smashes the part of morell.. that characters got more sides to him than richard i think but their both amazing performances ,
@thetruthaboutbjb I have seen dead man's shoes and it is very intense. kind f a tough movie to watch but I like seeing paddy do this one minute and then be in the movie about irish immigrants(sorry forgot the title) but they both are equally good.
@bigphishy I have just see thismovie one ime and can't think of seeing it again not because it isn't good but it does shake you up specially by the end. I kind of wanted it to be over with just because it gets in your head an you just want a break from it. to me that is a signof a good movie if it gets to you.
thank you for this film. fantastic. Someone once hurt my son very badly, he has specialneeds himself. We watched this film together,he loved it .I totoly understood the brothers revenge.Paddy your a genius and shane
Most big budget films are shite in MY opinion. Or films with loads of special effects. If U have an amazin stroy to tell, U only need simple scenes and diolouge to carry it off. But then again I am not into fantasy films like Star Wars, watch me get thumbed down for sayin that......
@ElvisLivesUpstairs Star Wars was so successful because effects were a novelty at that time, and such epic space movies were too. Also the fact that it's a simple good vs. evil story from the perspective of the underdog. That gets a lot of people onside. Now it's not a novelty, the weaknesses come out, same for similar films.
paddies in an amazin band called 'riding the low'- ive seen them play n they are really good, hes really good at entertaining a crowd. They sometimes play at BAR15 in Burton upon trent. recomend anyone to see em.
This was a great, gritty movie. It's a shame it's one of those under-the-radar movies. It actually made me cry and I tried to get my friends to watch it, they just said it looked like a 'gay British blair witch poject.' But it seems to me most British films such as this are pretty fantastic.
'Pluie Sans Nuages' by ABBC. Check out 'Untitled II' & 'Untitled III' by Calexico as well if you like it. All three are on the soundtrack to the film.
completely agree with you ther. It just goes to show that u dont need high speed chases and a big budget set somewhere in america to make an absolutely amazing film.
I told my uncle who hasnt seen dead mans shoes about this film and he said "ohh it sounds like another football factory blood bath" you need to watch it to change your opinion of it! thanks for uploading this.
agreed, I've felt ridiculous trying to describe to people why it was such a good movie when the plot is basically. one guy kills a bunch of other guys because duh duh duh dah dah.
but honestly just watch it and youll know from the first five minutes this is something else. great movie excellent acting, i especially liked herbie.
i like this film simply cos i grew up in a environment like that. i dont mean people bullying mentally slow people but mates in their groups out getting high and drunk, also i find the three dealers who were killed in sonnys house fucking hilarious good actors also!!
This is my favourite film. It really had an effect on me. Shane Meadows is a genius. I love how morbidly black the humour was in it, and there was actually a lot of humour.
One of my favourite films ever and hilarious in parts to boot. I hope its as funny to people not from the midlands. that really is how people like that talk to each other! awesome.

Question for those who have seen the movie. I'll try to ask this question in a spoiler-less way:
How did he know which people hurt his brother?
kometman 2 years ago
i think he knew because it was one of those small towns where everyone knows everyone's buisiness.
what i want to know is how did he knew the last guy didnt hurt his brother. but its not important, dead mans shoes is a stunning film.

This is one of the best films ever IMO.
No special effects, no big cars and shoot outs, just ordinary English day to day violence and misery with a heart of utter darkness.
I can so relate to what Paddy is saying here, terrible things happened when I was young and nobody paid.
The Bobby Joe Blythe video shows that they happened stateside too. :(
The revenge element of the film is cathartic in that respect.
I love Paddy Considine, my all time favourite screen psycho.
