Thanks so much for posting this. I was less than a year old when this recording was made, and was inspired to learn to play drums by listening to this entire alblum, constantly. I should, and do thank my late father for being a Basie fan, and exposing me to this incredible music at a vet early age. Thanks, Dad! R.I.P.
im trying to find this song tht my dance is doing for our june show, but i cant find it!!our dance teacher said it was called
one o' jump, but i cant do the dance to this. ITS JUST NOT THE RIGHT TUNE!!!!at the beginning it sounded right, but i like couldnt like start the dance when im supposed to!! ugh!! SO FRUSTRATING!!!!
Love this tune.. Count is one of my greatest inspirations.. If you like him as much as I do you'll probably dig my music too.. Check it out if you like. If anything just enjoy my BACKFLIP off a piano. just search COLIN BACKFLIP I won't disappoint COLIN BACKFLIP
The Jacquet solo partially show his capability. Listen to "The Blues" on JATP 1944 - the squeals don't detract from a seminal lesson on how to build an exciting solo - it's a classic. Should be played to everyone trying to learn tenor
Yeah, the first tenor solo is Lester Young, trumpet solo is Joe Newman, next tenor solo is Illinois Jacquet, the trumpet solo after the piano is Roy Eldridge.
This is the performance of One O' Clock Jump on the first Basie album I bought more than 40 years ago. I recognized every note in the piece, and anticipated most, even though it's been years since I played the record. I played it so many times back then that I almost wore the record out.
The Basie band is by far my favorite Jazz band. They will never make another like him. I was fortunate to hear him in concert three times.
The second tenor solo sounds like it might be Arnett Cobb as a special guest, with Roy Eldridge heading up into the stratosphere on trumpet, before being rescued by the full band for a raucous ride out. What night at Newport.
My family knew the Basie's Catherine and Bill (Count) Basie. They were really great people. He was an old man when I met him but very nice. I grew up in Jamaica, Queens, New York and listened to Basie (and others) while my parents and relatives danced the Lindy in the living Room. Salute Bill (Count) Basie! Another great artist that we associated with was the Fats Waller family and the Duke Ellington family.
THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That's Illinois Jaquet on the 2nd solo,I agree Lester sounds strong recalling his old powers rising to the ocasion playing with his peers.
