  • no racism. but about human soul.

  • I feel bad for the people who actually think this is racist... thanks for ruining the world retards.

    Great song!

  • OMG I love this song. It takes me back to when I was 17. Too bad it is no longer PC

  • @killerwaz88 you idiot.....

  • @killerwaz88 because he's fuckin' hooked on heroin and can't stash away one's money

  • @killerwaz88 aah youre so ignorant :'P

  • @killerwaz88 lol you are so fucking stupid and uneducated and uncultured. you are a god damn fool

  • This doesn't sound high quality.

  • la canción de 1979 perfecta me gusta con los años se a convertido en un clásico

  • no snot yeh twat!

  • why don't you just skip to something YOU would like to hear?

  • It's a great song, period!

If you're of the age and know the song from either album, "Boys Don't Cry" or "Standing on a Beach", you have a right to comment on the lyrical genius of Smith's music. If you're a PC troll and you like giving people of our generation a hard time, just because we have sound morals and like great music, well then... go fuck yourself!

Political correctness is all-but gone and for good reason... the world is going to shit and this philosophy certainly helped it along.

  • Viejito pero como para bailar descubriendo un misterio..

  • freaking Stupid people, jealousy kills i know. sad stupid Americans with no money and no brain. jealous of Arabs who litterally owns more than half of the Oil in the world. killing an arab your ass. Idiots...

  • @Joana25910 Dude(in feminine)... wtf? It's about a book by French-Algerian writer, philosopher and journalist Albert Camus in which a French-Algerian man shoots an Arab on a beach. It was published in 1942 and The Cure paid homage to it with this song. By the way The Cure was an English band. Think before commenting or go back to the kitchen.

  • Stylish old man with the overcoat and the flatcap and the bellbottoms

  • ..."I'm alive,I'm dead"...........

  • In the video it's not hot or sunny, like it was in the book, and it was sort of crucial.

  • we used to sing stupid words like "I can tun and walk away or I can fire the gun,

shoot him in the head, shoot him in the bum" - used to piss off the taking themselves-oh-so-seriously alternative crowd (the forerunners of Emos) no end.

  • I think the daft bastard has put it through Izotope and he's fucked the dynamics. Thats my guess. Next time, use the tight drum preset. If I''m wrong , sorry.

  • hear this song of the cure a thounsand hour is a DEMO is great

  • It's a great song. In the book, he lives in an Arabian country (which BTW, was colinized by the French, and he is French) and he probably would of killed a Frenchman just as easily,if one had been standing there.SO no.. they aren't racsist; but why does everyone tag every one as racist now? sheesh

  • @BernadetteIsTheWord Yes Algeria, I am from it, we got the independence in 1962 after a long fight againt french army (130 years of colonisation), But it ashame me to see that americans don't know this country : /

  • @KARNAGE94 Americans only know their America and how films depict "the rest of the world". Im from Argentina, and yeah we know Algeria VERY well. Its a shame for AMERICANS to not know shit about other than themselves and being dumb ignorants

  • @LisergicoRojo I guess that's what happens when you're a global super power. It's just like with Rome.

  • @LisergicoRojo Not everyone is like that and the song (if that is still somehow related to whatever you are talking about) is from a English band about a book written by a French-Algerian in 1942.

  • @chrisdrakekaka yeah man dont tell me about that I know Camus that was i was going for Argenians know algeria WAY better than americans cause french military taught argentinian army how to torture and employ the same method they used on aregel. Yeah LOL thx for stating the obvious by the way we all know its an english band and most of us know its based on the book from camus and some of us actually read it

  • @LisergicoRojo You're welcome. It's one of my favorite books. You talk about nations and their nationalities as if they really existed dude. Also I don't think it's smart to speak about "Algerians", "Americans", "Argentinians" or any other group people who have been born in any given human delimited territory as a homogeneous whole that acts or thinks like a huge blob and not like individuals. It's much better for any of your future arguments in life to speak in majorities and avoid generalizing

  • @LisergicoRojo what????

  • Your version of "HQ" leaves a lot to be desired....

  • ummmm .. this is HQ??? Hardly

  • excellent pairing of great song and fine short film....

  • haha most likely not, but then again, I only argue via Youtube with people I don't know when I'm very, very drunk! :) No offense taken.

  • Commenting on racism is not the same thing as being a racist. Also, your excessive punctuation is evidence of apparent dumbassery.

  • @t3hsalsa Don't want to a twat or nufink but ,,,,, ''evidence of apparent''.Do you need both of these words?

  • Where was this filmed?

  • de toute façon tué est un peché don absurde et pas bon du tout pour s'epenouire a chassé.raciste de merde.

  • @zelia187 in english please, so i can understand......

  • this is so unsettling its excellent, what a weird song, love the surf guitar, i just discovered this song, never been a huge fan of the cure but they get more respect for this freaky diamond and by the way, racist? my arse

  • Comment removed

  • It's the guy on their "Staring at the Sea" CD!!!!!!!!!!

  • Wtf? the intro riff was in a malay song. Fuck the copyright, damn racists

  • There's nothing rascist about this song you noob.

  • This is a song from 1979 and i snot racist in any way. It is a summary of a book called the stranger but Albert Camus, where the narrator is standing on a beach, looking out to see having just shot someone who happened to be an arab.

prior to labelling somone or a group as racist, it might help if you investigate first - otherwise you end up looking a fool........

  • But you cant just label a song title in a discrete manner. Its like saying, "Ouh dude, i just saw a white guy got shot.(For e.g.) Lets make a song about it." -___- Think in human ways.

  • So you say they cannot label a song in that way....yet you have no qualms about going onto a website and labelling a group racist and copyright thieves. .............

  • Yes but don't you hear the lyrics?

"I can turn and walk away or I can fire the gun. Staring at the sky, staring at the sun - whichever I choose it amounts to the same - absolutely nothing."

SOunds pretty racially tense, to me!

  • @calamityash80 Racially tense? If he's basically saying 'Either way, if i kill this arab or not, i'll still amount to nothing' How is that racially tense? If you choose to take it the way it has been written then wouldn't that mean he's really saying 'i don't really give two shit's if i kill this arab or not' then why is that even remotely racist? He doesn't care if he's an arab, he is just stating it so you get an idea of whats happening. It's cool though, my friends are pedophiles AH! arabs.

  • @unplannedautopsy

take the word "arab" out and then we're not discussing race/nationality anymore, right? i would be offended if the song was called "killing an American" - thats all I know for sure.

  • @calamityash80 it's a reference to the book "The Outsider" by Albert Camus, alternately titled "The Stranger." The main character of the book was slightly racist, but it's mainly about the fact that he murdered somebody without any kind of regret for his actions. it's an absurdist classic.

so, no. the cure/robert smith are NOT making racist references at ALL. don't be a dumbass.

  • @t3hsalsa

Thats my point!!!! As you said, the main character murdered someone without any regret, and he was "slightly racist". The song, be it based on a book or not, is racist.

    dont be a dumbass!!

  • @calamityash80 The lines about how nothing really matters. We can all die today or tommarow but he knows everyones life including his amounts to nothing in the end.But if you read the book or even the philosphy absurdism which would take you 4 seconds to google you'd know that.

  • @Dontmakemecomeover5 Now your comment is definitely one I can appreciate.... I actually wrote the initial comment on here awhile ago.... I'm open for understanding things, but I do need a bit of help on some stuff, particularly if it is involving a book I am not aware of...

  • @calamityash80 Well I guess the myth of sisyphus is your best bet.You can also try the trial by franz kafka. Its a perfect example of absurdist fiction.Basically absurdism is about being at peace with the idea that shit happens mainly for no reason.Absurdism is believing that the universe is uncaring to the condition of man, and we just want the universe to take a genuine interest in humanity. The subscribers to absurdism would seemingly believe that this is a waste of time.Sorry for being rude

  • @Dontmakemecomeover5 QUANDO CAMUS ESCREVEU SOBRE KAFKA DISSE 2 ABSOLUTAS VERDADES ELE CRIA A NECESSIADE DE RELE LO E TAMBEM KAFKA OFERECE O TEMPO TODO PERGUNTAS SO PERGUNTAS, E NO FUNDO UMA HISTORIA

  • @t3hsalsa Dont call me names please thanks :) I am aware of Albert Camus but have never read The Stranger, however I will quite soon.

  • @calamityash80

    Context is meaning.

You're not only discarding the context of the song, but applying your own, which is clearly based in ignorance that the songwriters themselves did not suffer from. Don't assume that others are limited in the same ways as you just because you don't understand them. Learn the context, and the meaning that you acquire will give YOUR context greater meaning as well.

  • @unplannedautopsy

and what i meant in my post 9 months ago was that he's saying that the person is nothing. means nothing. doesn't matter. and that he's an Arab. Now, add that all up together and it sounds horribly mean and cruel. And of course, racist!

  • @calamityash80 idiot! stop listening to The Cure, you're not worthy

  • @shellflores1 I've listened to The Cure my entire life. I am pretty sure I'm worthy to listen to and interpret any song I choose, whichever way I choose to do so.

  • @ruarisloane who happened to be an arab? seems like thats pretty much the main focus of the entire song.

i really don't care what book its supposedly paying homage to. I wrote a paper on Existentialism once and Camus was included in it, however, more attention was given to Jean Paul Sartre and as a result I can't remember Camus from the others.....

  • And with that said, Existentialism is all about the freedom to choose and live ones life however one chooses to do so. This song does not particularly exemplify that idea. In my personal opinion it seems to do the opposite. It seems to be saying that we have ZERO freedom in this world to choose our own existence. Sure, I may be way off in thinking that. I am not a philosopher. I just like music.

  • L'Étranger it explores existentialism, something that I read in high school...

  • @ruarisloane you snot?

  • @ruarisloane You obiovusly, on one hand read, on the other and arse. Reason`s simple, Camus wrote the book not tryin to provoke people (western), started killing arabs or others, but the focus of his book is a man`s lack of purpose for existance, just as France´s lack of aim while trying to retain their colonies in the start of the 2nd half of xxth century. Please, get a girlfriend, travel, get a 2nd job or something to extend your brain`s capacity

  • SUPER

  • Not a huge Cure fan, but this song has been in my top 10 Singles since I first heard it aged 6. Ta for the upload.

  • @EBursey can i ask you, what others are your top ten singles? thanks..i am just curious...

  • Really good. Actually left stuff to the viewer's imagination, which is rare anymore.
