  • Nice video. Always wanted to work for the railroad but that will never happen to me. The pay is great, dont get paid like that nowhere else. I would be working in Illinois, Ky, Wisconsin, anywhere in Canada too. Hey, make some more vids of your job, working other CN lines.

  • May i ask what you mean by "Forced"? do you mean like the IC forced you to work that subdivision or that particular train? because I've always wanted to work for the rairoad as a conductor and eventually a engineer, so if they hired me i dont think i would complain too much lol

  • @TannerDalrymple224 being forced to a job is where you are the low man on the pole you dont bid on the job but no one else does either and you get it because no one else wanted it. make no mistake that job paid some serious green, roughly 15K a month. the down side was you were at home maybe 30 hours in a 7 day period. money was great but when do you get some time for the family? that job SUCKED!!!

  • I just thought of a flaw in the idea of switching the horns to the crossing.....you would lose the doppler affect nd the doppler afect gives speed and distance clues to the observer. Big drawback.

  • Did you see that crazy animal at :09 seconds?

  • There is a big difference in being a "railfan" and a "railworker". In fact, if you go to work on a railroad as a fan, you will probably stop being one.Its the best and the worst of everything. In fact it becomes a wonder after only days that any of it works at all. It takes some dedicated, and some to dumb to quit people that makes this miracle.Finding rail jobs is not hard and they all pay well. They all are working hell...you EARN your money.I know many that are railworkers.I respect them much.

  • I really like these train videos here on Youtube.....but.....could one of you guys make a video that includes showing a train arriving at it's DESTINATION? I love it all....all the trains going by with their huge load of frieght....but we never see the train arriving at point B.

  • Could it get any greener around there? I grew up in Illinois.....it's like a tropical rain forest.

  • They should take the horns off of the locomotives and install them on the crossing gate. Engineer doesn't need that thing blasting in his ear, the drivers do. Come on people...gotta think outside the box.

  • @JetMechMA THE MOST SENSIBLE REMARK ON ALL OF YOU TUBE...IS ANYONE LISTENING?????

  • Now that is a great idea man !

  • what was your speed in this vid?

  • You were forced to work M334? And great video! I'm wanting to be a conductor and ultimately an engineer, so this is pretty cool.

  • ca you make a video looking around the cab?

  • my dad is a veteran engineer on csx's nashville chattanooga division and hes always tellin me dont go 2 work 4 csx is ic any better?

  • @redrock717 why did your dad stay so long working for the CSX if it was so bad,

huh ? = unable to earn more elsewhere...

  • @061369317 my dads the second oldest man from memphis to chattanooga he can pull some strings

  • @redrock717 na he makes very good money he just says dont go to work 4 csx because i only make 90% of what he makes and il be on the road 4 20 years and he started with l&n and the family lines and csx bought them out when they formed in'82..... il probably go to work 4 ns or cn or a local shortline

  • @redrock717 Assuming you actually get hired. They don't just hand the jobs out to anyone. There seems to be a misconception with railfans assuming they WILL get hired out by the railroad.

  • Are the controls on a CN dash 9 set up like standard dash 9 controls (like on a tabletop) of are the a panel (like gp38s)?

  • @skullcrusher301 they have conventional control stands with no computers. the pintos of the dash 9...

  • Comment removed

  • Is this a Dash series

  • @kodiak3536 thats right.. a Dash 9

  • @CNKILLERCLOWN That s what I thought it was Thanks

  • how much money do engineers make weekly??

  • @camaroZL575 1780.00 a week on the GEB, most make more but you will never make less than that..

  • @CNKILLERCLOWN Not bad at all for sitting down and throwing some switches all day. Heck, why am I in college? Do engineers need a college degree? I suppose there really is no opportunity for ascension above the job of engineer unless one has a degree, but sitting behind a desk could never beat the rush of driving one of those big locomotives, so it evens out.

  • Love the lush vegetation.

Slight "flat spot" on one pair of wheels? (I could hear speed increase.)

Took longer than I expected for the train to pass the detector. Seemed faster than 49 mph.

Thanks for your video. Hope you post more.

  • nice horns

  • Lol I work out of fulton ky

  • reminds me to much of work

  • could be worse i guess......

  • sweet man!!!

  • how much power does the train have???

  • 8800 HP a pair of DASH 9's..

  • The IC defect detectors are very friendly.

    Loved this video! great job!

  • thanks, the CN is upgrading them now there are just a few of these style detectors left.

  • It looks like at one time there was more than one set of tracks.

  • yeah used to be double track thru here..

  • i wish i could find a railroad thats hiring

  • good luck, most are cutting folks off..

  • I've been furloughed since Xmas from the UP...it's pretty bad out there..at least for now.

  • where are you at? i worked out of north platte for a while. they guy right ahead of me said at the first of the year he had 572 folks under him. now he says 10......

  • I am on the Chicago Service Unit. We still have 164 guys on the cut board and 72 guys on the Wisconsin side. the only good news is that the Union told us that the UP did away with the 365 day cut off rule, because of the economy.

  • what horn is on the train! its an awesome horn!

  • if i remember right it is a K3

  • the name

  • have you ever been through burlington or elgin illinois with a train on that railroad. well it might be the cn railroad now that im talking about cause i think they changed it.

  • where is this at?

  • about 60 miles noth of memphis..

  • how do u know when to blow the horn?

  • sign on the side of the track the has a W on it. other railroads have their signs with x's or whatever. if you been runnin the engine long enough you can well just figure it out..

  • theres signs that have a w on them before the crossing and the signs stand for whistle.

  • dude that job must suck

  • It is the best and worst job you will ever have.

  • man you hit it right on the head!! good money but sometimes aint real friendly to the personal life..

  • Forced to do it for 5 months.I bet you just hated it.thanks for sharing.

  • in total honesty i like the extra board way better. the opposing end of this train (M396) went on duty at memphis at 2200 going to fulton. you would get to fulton about 10 the next morning. you would not get back out from the hotel till 0200 the next morning. they would make sure you were off just a bit before 1400 so you could catch your turn out that night at 2200. i lived 1 hour away. yeah 6 hours at bet at home sucked!!! this set up only left 15 or 16 hours on your one off day...

  • That would suck large.I usually only do 8 hours switching.Somtimes14 to 16 hours and once ina blue moon till whenever or after 3 or 4 hours at home they call you in to make a switch.I live about 35 minutes away.Been doing it for 36 years. I'm started get a little worn.Just don't want to start anything new now except retire but they say I'm still too young.I do get better days off though. All the best.

  • the one off day for the N501 pool was tuesday or wenesday depending what turn out of the two you were on. the ride out of fulton ky would be a turn job. run Q194 (pig train) south swap with M335 somewhere around dyersburg, tn. take that one north yard it then build up M334 and take it to memphis. everyone hated the job so i got forced to it. i was the junior man for 5 months. soon as 1 cat below me marked up he got a regular job right out of the gate.. i know he was pissed...

  • My favorite freight locomotive series. Nice sd70

  • @EMDFAN1988 It's a GE ...

  • Is this line dark? no signals and manual switch?

  • watch it again you pass two block signals. this entire line is CTC.

  • @CNKILLERCLOWN Could be ABS

  • look at 6:10

  • awsome 5 stars

  • Sweeety the video!

Long way you had got long way trip!

    *Add favorite and 5 rating!

  • thanks..

  • welcome, CN engineer guy! :P

  • Great video dude

  • WHAT KIND OF HORN IS ON THAT TRAIN

  • nathan K3's not sure what the tone is though. it is a canadian horn.

  • More likely a Airchime K3L or K3H.

  • good video =]

  • This IC 2700 is basically a CN Unit. Lol

  • yeah a GENERIC dash 9. just enough to make it run. CN IS CHEAP!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Your an engineer I take it? I currently live in Miami, FL; but only been here 1 year. I used to live in Royal Oak, MI which is on the CN holly sub. That's where I'm from. Great railfanning experience and CN loves to use through-way service of BNSF, NS, and CSXT.

  • Travis you are an idiot you dont call someone out like that and i doubt he cares where you live your so wierd dude really you need to go hide in a cave and do the world a favor

  • very cool.
