I really don't understand why Fed always holds back when complimenting Nadal. Of course he is one of the greatest players ever, but he is just such a sore loser. It's the reason i just can't get to liking him. Also, people don't give Nadal enough credit, he isn't great because he can beat Fed, but because he plays really good tennis!! It is not about Nadal vs Fed, it's about Nadal. This was his moment, and he deserved to have it to the fullest. Same thing with AO.
@MSI0529 Thanks for your comment. I think it's one of the most reasonable comments that are so true and sincere on YouTube. Friends here tend to underrate great players just because they are not their most favorable players. However while it's also true to say Roger's superior status does not need to be determined by the H2H record with Rafa, Rafa's superb quality does not need to be reflected by the overall grandslams and the number of fans all over the world.
@BuddyTennis Been watching a lot of old videos, just sick of all the hate and arguing. I love em both, Nadal more, because he's just such a nice guy and kinda cute too! You have one guy who is a natural and the other plays with so much passion, and most people have to admit, Fed-Nadal matches are really something else!
@MSI0529 Nadal DID have this moment to the fullest. I can understand your point about the Australian Open, but Federer did nothing after the Wimbledon match to take the moment away from Nadal. He just reacted as you would expect. Looked a bit disappointed. Indeed, if Federer had clambered into the stands like Nadal did after a victory, I suspect you'd be calling him arrogant for doing so.
@MrRippy99 If Nadal ran into the stands like that after every win, I'd find it a little ridiculous! It was a big moment for him, so it was really sweet. It would be arrogant if he ran up there and with his chest wide flicked Fed off. I don't have anything against Fed, but to me it was just annoying that he couldn't save the tears for later. maybe that is harsh, lol but it's how I feel!
@MSI0529 No yeah, I agree it was wrong of Fed at the Australian. But I thought you'd said Fed didn't let Nadal have his moment at Wimbledon either? And I was saying Fed did nothing wrong after he lost at Wimbledon.
@esquibelle You're right he isn't a very good loser.. but it's something he isn't used to, considering his grand slam record up to this defeat. Roddick wasn't much 'better' a loser in his defeat to Federer in Wimbledon 2009.
All are records, some by large margins, surpassing the achievements of such greats of the game as Pete Sampras, Bjorn Borg, Rod Laver, John McEnroe. All were achieved during a remarkable run of dominance that began in 2003, building a case for Switzerlands Federer to be selected as The Associated Press Athlete of the Decade.
Well Nadal must be doing somthing better than Federer, hence why their head to head is 13-7 to Nadal. Also Nadal has beating Roger more times in Grand Slam Finals. Both are great players, Federer has won more Slams but if your comparing whos the best when they play each other you have to give it to Nadal. Stats dont lie.
the majority of these meetings are on clay so nadal has a biased lead. on other surfaces its pretty even with fed just edging it. although you are correct about slam finals, nadal has won 5 out of the 7 meetings and on 3 different surfaces so he does have something special when it comes to playing federer :):):)
Your legacy is determined by your place in the ATP not some H2H record against Nadal. Sampras's history was cemented due to his achievements on the tour, not his negative H2H record vs Krajicek, Roddick, among others. H2H doesn't mean ANYTHING. All it is, is a stat to look at for interest. Do you consider McEnroe equal to Borg? They have a 7:7 H2H record. Do you place Roddick or Krajicek above Sampras? Roddick and Krajicek have winning H2H records. No different between Federer/Nadal.
@AllGenreMusic well head to head does matter to an extent. Roddick was like 10 years younger then Pete and caught pete near the end of his carrear. Krajicek didnt beat Sampras at three of the four grandslams.
@AllGenreMusic I disagree with you. Federer has lost in 6 slam finals, 5 of them to Nadal. Nadal already has 6 slams and could have had more if he didn't go down at the absolute peak of his career (results-wise). The telling thing to me is the last 2 meetings in slam finals, both on Federer-preferred surfaces, and both going to Nadal. Remember that Nadal is only 23 and already has 6 grand slams, while playing through Federer's prime. Head to head means something, and Nadal dominates Fed.
@AllGenreMusic I definitely agree with what you said, the only exception being that Nadal himself has been a consistent #2 (and at times #1) player in the world alongside Federer for many years now. And the two men have played each other in SEVEN finals; five went to Nadal. The rivalries you mentioned aren't as meaningful in terms of what was on the line. But I agree that from a historical viewpoint Federer will be remembered as the grandslam king, not as playing the fiddle to Nadal.
@AllGenreMusic I agree with you that H2Hs shoudln't preside over the bigger picture of a players ATP ranking, but I don't believe that the Roddick-Samprass comparison is relevant to Federer-Nadal.
Federer and Nadal are both playing at their peaks, Sampras and Roddick were never close to that.
@AllGenreMusic ok, but you also must recognize that Rafa was behind Fed by more than 160 consecutive weeks as number two(a record) until he got the top. Andy Roddick, as Krajicek are very good players, especially Roddick that has been one of the few players that have been maintained within the top 10 for nearly a decade. "Play against Rafa has been the biggest challenge that I've had in my life"--Roger Federer.
Also think about it this way, Federer makes it all the way to numerous tournament finals, and usually takes the tournament. Nadal, is usually in many of these events, yet he loses in the early rounds. Does it seem fair that Federer's H2H record stays poor against Nadal despite making it further and winning the tournament while Nadal loses early? Fact is, if H2H meant so much, why has Roger won 55% of the slams since 2005? Don't tell me injury because Nadal was healthy for many periods.
Both of your comments are spot on! Exactly, I've been saying this for the past 3-4 years. Rafa never meets Federer at the US open because he never makes the finals. The US Open is a perfect example of this.
Totally agree with you...Federer needs to show some respect to opponents who have beaten him especially players like Djokovic, Murray, Nadal and Del Potro who have more than proved they are worthy opponents!
It's clear that you're someone who suffers from tunnel vision only sees the Federer as worthy and all others unworthy!
I on the other hand am a true tennis fan and appreciate all the players and don't buy into the media hype that favours one player over the others.
Del Potro has improved greatly and is deserving of some respect he's earnt it! As has Federer, Nadal, Djokovic and all other players who have worked hard to become the best they can be!
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
What a fucking TWAT!!
Rafa doesnt need a match like Wimbly to prove himself, cos to some only trophys count hay?
Well swiss douch bag, why so much on 'finally' winning your 14/15? and French?
That sounds to me like Trophies only matter to you, you have the class of a peice of shit, show some respect to your oppontes and stop throwing your toys out the pram when you lose.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
I agree with you there, though this is quite generous interview of him. check out the Australian one, he was being the worst twat to ever play tennis.
Shit u guys fighting for roger and rafa...these two are the pride of tennis....pride of sports....no rivalry of two players is greater....not sampras-agassi not borg-mcenroe....its bcz of them that so many people watch tennis these days...and they are very good friends.respect each other.like each others company.love to play each other...fed knows that rafa gets the best game out of him...and rafa knows fed makes him work harder...iu salute these guys and wish for more gr8 matches btwn them
federer still has every chance to win any major especially now after winning the french and wimbledon..you cant say nadal is a better player if he got beat by federer in madrid than by soderling at roland garros..you could argue that its cause nadal had knee trouble and that is why he lost.. federer still had back problems and had mononucleosis earlier in 2008 so this was a factor why he lost the final...but nadal is not better, just look at the 2 previous finals..but who cares it's his again
I agre with you, but with that nadal didint losse against soderling by the knee problem is fail cus he had that problem even so he didint say he lost becouse of that cus he´s an Humble player and respect he´s enemies, he played very bad against soderling he play very short and even though he´s knee injury he´s having some family problems atm with is personal.
Even if he was 17, he`d still suffer his parents`s divorce... and it doesn`t matter the age, no one`d like his parents to divorce... for your statements, I can deduct that you don`t live with both of your parents...
His parents`s divorce is also a problem... you don`t know the psychological toll that it can take for a person to see his parents divorcing... you won`t never understand it, since you don`t live with both of your parents...
Totally agree with this comment...and Rafael Nadal is going through a similar situation right now with his parents so don't you think the same consideration should be shown to Nadal..even though he has been injured he's also had this going on in his personal life!
roger federer was meant to win every matches. his whole carrer is built on the basis of winnig al majors. everytime when he is thrashed by nadal, it always hurts his ego. he was dominent for several years . lot of players came and gone. he was winning everything . suddenly he witnessed this spanish guy and the game he is playing. nadal have too much respect for him. its a shame that he does not have any.i guess his down to earth attitude comes as long as he is winning.
i cant agree more. federer is a bit arrogant ..and nadal on the other hand is so humble and of course as a player nadal is better than him as well. whenever nadal plays a major .federer chances of winning is slim.
nadal better than federer? name one shot that nadal does better than federer? serve? volley? slice? you cant. federer does everything better. plus nadals stalling tactics are deplorable
Federer: "... I think he play well, i mean, he was rock-solid the way we know him, hes definitely improve his game. I think since the beggining of the year hes been playing well, very consistent, hes been playing better on quicker courts, i dont think he needed the match today to prove himself..."
And you say that Federer doesnt respect him... Bulls@it!
Exactly Federer when he's winning is all nicey-nicey...but when he loses his ego cannot take it and he becomes a really sore loser in how he speaks about an opponent! Look at some of his interviews relating to his losses against Djokovic and Murray...
Of course no one likes to lose...but it's how you handle it! Nadal has lost many matches, but always still manages to smile or laugh afterwards. When he lost to Federer in I think it was Madrid finals, Rafael Nadal afterwards was laughing and joking around showed he can take the wins and losses the same way...much like the words written at Wimbledon "If you can meet triumph and disaster and treat those two imposters the same then...something like that!
ugh.. being cheery after losing a madrid open final is about a bazillion times easier than after losing a wimbledon final, let alone one hwere u came back from 2 sets down to have a 7-6 lead in the 5th, then lose
For you your opinion may be the only one that counts...but I reserve the right to have my own and also respect the opinions of others! Let's just agree to disagree and leave it at that!!! :)
In your mind yes...but I reserve the right to my own opinion and don't have to agree or say you are right anymore than you need to agree to my opinion...after all we do live in a free society do we not?
Its OK... but it`s a pity that you think that Federer is the worst loser, when he`s a good champion... maybe not the best, but he`s a good sportman...
Why talk about how's better. I think wenn they play eachother in any finale its a great match and that what counts. No more that stupid "fight" between fans...
all greats are sore losers. But federer was rather gracious here and a true champion. You are just a dick head. If you want to start some stupid comparison with rafa, how about the fact rafa's body is falling apart and he looks like Mumm-ra. Federer's fitness is better. His stanima is better, he has a career grand slam and is tied with sampras. Something Nadal will never achieve.
Lol tard Federers fitness is better? Are you joking? Do you even remember the australian open where he had hardly any rest before he had a 5 set match final against Federer? Shut up. GTFO armchair analyst.
Like Pat Cash, Rafa's body is not built to withstand the sport that he plays and the way in which he plays it. That he has triumphed with those problems in all but the US open in testament to his ability.
And any professional in the game will tell you that Federer is the more complete player. That's not in dispute. They will also tell you, however, that Nadal is the better competitor. That's just a fact.
By your logic, Margaret Court, with 24 Grand Slam final wins spread across all four tournaments should be considered the greatest ever female player. Navratiliova takes that accolade, followed by Graf and Evert.
On total titles in the Open Era, then Connors, using your logic, should be the greatest male player, with 109 against Federer's thus far 57.
If comparing results at the end of peoples' career is all that matters, why watch them play in the first place?
I'm afraid not. Federer and Borg compete in the same era - it's called the Open Era.
I'll accept that they both compete in the same genration, which is different.
Your logic is however still flabby. Federer is 27 and Nadal is 23. Federer has a good head start on Nadal.
As it stands just now, Federer's conversion on Grand Slam titles sits at 73%, with Nadal's at 75% - neck and neck, with nothing to suggest that Nadal will not have another 6 or 7 slams in the bag by the time he's 27.
Fair point. How can your logic be flabby when you have none? Your assertion is based on 'just because' rather than knowledge of the game.
If you knew tennis, you would know that they are the only 2 players in the modern era to face each other 7 times in Grand Slam finals. Nadal has won 5 of them.
Nadal also leads the overall head to head 13-7. It's 9-2 on clay to Nadal, and 5-4 to Federer or grass and clay.
Champions are measured on the quality of opponent they overcome, not just numbers.
I think Federer has learnt now not to use the slice backhand when playing him, since as he didn't use it in madrid and he beat him in straight sets. Nadal will not win this year. 15 th grand slam for Federer.
That interviewer is stupid. was it too dark. Federer knows what went wrong it's stupid to blame it on the conditions. He just wanted to go home, poor Fed. He'll get his revenge this year.
Congrats to roger for winning french. Sampras said winning french solidifies rogers position as greatest. I think however, the only way his position as greatest will be solidified is when he beats nadal in a slam. That is more important than winning the french or even getting 15 plus slams in my opinion. What you people think?
Roger is undoubtedly the greatest talent the game has ever produced. Nodoby can deny that. Many commentatators have said he is the greatest of all time, 14slams and counting, hard to dispute. However, whenever the question of greatest arises with roger, it inevitably follows, but he cant beat nadal. Roger has to realise it doesnt matter now in his career how many slams he win. He has to beat nadal in a slam to finally put to bed 'who is the greatest'. If he cant, the jury is still out.
Federer has beaten Nadal before in slams. Besides, Federer is 5 years older, so Federer is past his peak, but Nadal is in his peak. So, RIGHT NOW, Nadal will be better than Federer.
But overall, Federer has had a more impressive career, and I don't think Nadal can match it. The thing is, Federer always gets to French Open Final, but Nadal never gets to US Open Final. Federer would beat Nadal in the US Open, if he ever got far enough!
whats with the first two questions, the gay just lost, he knows it and he doesn´t look for excuses, and these guys are like " was it to dark" what kind of question is that-???
fuck you greatmya piece of shit. I just looked in my inbox and found a nasty message from you. Nadal is a metrosexual dicksucker and doesn't have the talent that Federer has in his pinky. His reign on top will be short-lived because of his physical playing style (courier, hewitt, muster blah blah blah) Now, stop talking shit to people and listen to your omnipotent master njikwa.
Answer this dummy. If two guys run a race of 100 meters. You're saying the guy that finished second is faster. NADAL OWNS FEDERER ON ALL SURFACES. WHAT ARE THE CHANCES THAT ROGER GETS TO THE FRENCH FINAL. I THINK ABOUT 10 PERCENT. THE CHANCES RAFA WINS, ABOUT 90 % Rafa is 22 years old. How many majors did Roger have at that age??
Borg won 11 majors by age 25. Roger is 27 you dumb fuck. Laver won the grand slam not once but twice. He also didn't play for 6 years because of bullshit. I bet you sit down when you pee...
you man ass eater, federer has more grandslams than nadal so he is better it does not matter their ages, you are so stupid to understand people peak at different stages ,i bet you kiss mens buttholes.
To coin a phrase which I'm sure you won't understand, " he who protest too much". Let me put it terms you may understand. If you always coplain or scoff at homosexuals, than you probably are one. You just won't admit it. Thank you no, I'm happily married with three children and live in a nice house. Maybe one day you can move from your mothers basement.
A man happily married with 3 children making basic school boy grammatical errors when typing, you cannot even spell "complain",and many other errors you put in your text, you gay idiot.Learn how to read and write first, atleast.
if you're going to makes stupid comments, at least capitalize the letter I. Not lower case i. Also there should be a space after the comma. Another "gay" comment. I think you protest too much. Just come out. Did you go to high school?
Your right Spelt is a word. It actually comes from the 12th century from the Old English language. It is considered a noun, not a verb how you try to use it. Do you want me to explain the difference between nouns and verbs to you? Nah, you wouldn't understand.
The word spelt is a 12th century noun that means a split piece of wood. Now more commonly refered to as a "split". FYI, the 12th century means it's kinda old. The word "Spelt" has nothing to do with spelling.
I'm hyped for this year...I'd love to see someone else join the grand slam club though...raf and rog are so dominant

AllGenreMusic 2 years ago 2
Both of your comments are spot on! Exactly, I've been saying this for the past 3-4 years. Rafa never meets Federer at the US open because he never makes the finals. The US Open is a perfect example of this.

Richard Krajicek has a winning H2H against Sampras.

Totally agree with you...Federer needs to show some respect to opponents who have beaten him especially players like Djokovic, Murray, Nadal and Del Potro who have more than proved they are worthy opponents!
pps1fan 2 years ago
XD take out del potro's name he hasn't " proved " anything.
hillsong1004 2 years ago
Oh so Del Potro beating Federer to win the US Open this year hasn't proven he's a worthy challenger? :D
pps1fan 2 years ago
And beating someone ONCE out of 11 meetings is proving something?

Well last nights win makes it two in a row...so the kid is going about proving people like you wrong there now isn't he?

It's clear that you're someone who suffers from tunnel vision only sees the Federer as worthy and all others unworthy!
I on the other hand am a true tennis fan and appreciate all the players and don't buy into the media hype that favours one player over the others.
Del Potro has improved greatly and is deserving of some respect he's earnt it! As has Federer, Nadal, Djokovic and all other players who have worked hard to become the best they can be!

why he does at wimbledon final 2007?
v0dkaufq1 2 years ago
federer still has every chance to win any major especially now after winning the french and wimbledon..you cant say nadal is a better player if he got beat by federer in madrid than by soderling at roland garros..you could argue that its cause nadal had knee trouble and that is why he lost.. federer still had back problems and had mononucleosis earlier in 2008 so this was a factor why he lost the final...but nadal is not better, just look at the 2 previous finals..but who cares it's his again
7Jcam 2 years ago
I agre with you, but with that nadal didint losse against soderling by the knee problem is fail cus he had that problem even so he didint say he lost becouse of that cus he´s an Humble player and respect he´s enemies, he played very bad against soderling he play very short and even though he´s knee injury he´s having some family problems atm with is personal.

Totally agree with this comment...and Rafael Nadal is going through a similar situation right now with his parents so don't you think the same consideration should be shown to Nadal..even though he has been injured he's also had this going on in his personal life!

nadal is finish.. with 2 knee injure never he will be back at 100%.. so federer is back at 100% watch out at the us open

roger federer was meant to win every matches. his whole carrer is built on the basis of winnig al majors. everytime when he is thrashed by nadal, it always hurts his ego. he was dominent for several years . lot of players came and gone. he was winning everything . suddenly he witnessed this spanish guy and the game he is playing. nadal have too much respect for him. its a shame that he does not have any.i guess his down to earth attitude comes as long as he is winning.

adpon 2 years ago 2
i cant agree more. federer is a bit arrogant ..and nadal on the other hand is so humble and of course as a player nadal is better than him as well. whenever nadal plays a major .federer chances of winning is slim.
taniahurley 2 years ago
nadal better than federer? name one shot that nadal does better than federer? serve? volley? slice? you cant. federer does everything better. plus nadals stalling tactics are deplorable
butterflycaught900 2 years ago
Federer: "... I think he play well, i mean, he was rock-solid the way we know him, hes definitely improve his game. I think since the beggining of the year hes been playing well, very consistent, hes been playing better on quicker courts, i dont think he needed the match today to prove himself..."
And you say that Federer doesnt respect him... Bulls@it!
modem09 2 years ago
Exactly Federer when he's winning is all nicey-nicey...but when he loses his ego cannot take it and he becomes a really sore loser in how he speaks about an opponent! Look at some of his interviews relating to his losses against Djokovic and Murray...
pps1fan 2 years ago
by the way its always hard to lose for every player.. even federer
v0dkaufq1 2 years ago
Of course no one likes to lose...but it's how you handle it! Nadal has lost many matches, but always still manages to smile or laugh afterwards. When he lost to Federer in I think it was Madrid finals, Rafael Nadal afterwards was laughing and joking around showed he can take the wins and losses the same way...much like the words written at Wimbledon "If you can meet triumph and disaster and treat those two imposters the same then...something like that!
pps1fan 2 years ago 4
ugh.. being cheery after losing a madrid open final is about a bazillion times easier than after losing a wimbledon final, let alone one hwere u came back from 2 sets down to have a 7-6 lead in the 5th, then lose

such a sore loser vamos Rafa - defend the title!
1505kad 2 years ago
all greats are sore losers.
DLPBurke 2 years ago
Lol tard Federers fitness is better? Are you joking? Do you even remember the australian open where he had hardly any rest before he had a 5 set match final against Federer? Shut up. GTFO armchair analyst.
kovi17 2 years ago
Federer has never had to pull out of Wimbledon mate, you are just an intolerant idiot who can't see Nadal's body is already packing in.
What champion can't turn up to defend his title? yeah, real fitness that.
DLPBurke 2 years ago
thats not fitness thats health... get to know the difference moron.
kovi17 2 years ago
Like Pat Cash, Rafa's body is not built to withstand the sport that he plays and the way in which he plays it. That he has triumphed with those problems in all but the US open in testament to his ability.
And any professional in the game will tell you that Federer is the more complete player. That's not in dispute. They will also tell you, however, that Nadal is the better competitor. That's just a fact.
stormmine 2 years ago
It won't matter at the end of their careers when Nadal has nowhere near the success of Federer. That is all that matters when we conpare these 2.
DLPBurke 2 years ago 3
By your logic, Margaret Court, with 24 Grand Slam final wins spread across all four tournaments should be considered the greatest ever female player. Navratiliova takes that accolade, followed by Graf and Evert.
On total titles in the Open Era, then Connors, using your logic, should be the greatest male player, with 109 against Federer's thus far 57.
If comparing results at the end of peoples' career is all that matters, why watch them play in the first place?
They are both a joy to watch.
stormmine 2 years ago
nadal and federer compete in same era....so the logic works.
DLPBurke 2 years ago
I'm afraid not. Federer and Borg compete in the same era - it's called the Open Era.
I'll accept that they both compete in the same genration, which is different.
Your logic is however still flabby. Federer is 27 and Nadal is 23. Federer has a good head start on Nadal.
As it stands just now, Federer's conversion on Grand Slam titles sits at 73%, with Nadal's at 75% - neck and neck, with nothing to suggest that Nadal will not have another 6 or 7 slams in the bag by the time he's 27.
stormmine 2 years ago
The logic isn't flabby. Nadal will never be held in same regard as Federer until he has as many Slams and that is never.
DLPBurke 2 years ago
Champions are measured on the quality of opponent they overcome, not just numbers.
stormmine 2 years ago
I think Federer has learnt now not to use the slice backhand when playing him, since as he didn't use it in madrid and he beat him in straight sets. Nadal will not win this year. 15 th grand slam for Federer.
That interviewer is stupid. was it too dark. Federer knows what went wrong it's stupid to blame it on the conditions. He just wanted to go home, poor Fed. He'll get his revenge this year.
buzzybee286 2 years ago 2

Congrats to roger for winning french. Sampras said winning french solidifies rogers position as greatest. I think however, the only way his position as greatest will be solidified is when he beats nadal in a slam. That is more important than winning the french or even getting 15 plus slams in my opinion. What you people think?
MrTk014 2 years ago
Roger is undoubtedly the greatest talent the game has ever produced. Nodoby can deny that. Many commentatators have said he is the greatest of all time, 14slams and counting, hard to dispute. However, whenever the question of greatest arises with roger, it inevitably follows, but he cant beat nadal. Roger has to realise it doesnt matter now in his career how many slams he win. He has to beat nadal in a slam to finally put to bed 'who is the greatest'. If he cant, the jury is still out.
MrTk014 2 years ago
Federer has beaten Nadal before in slams. Besides, Federer is 5 years older, so Federer is past his peak, but Nadal is in his peak. So, RIGHT NOW, Nadal will be better than Federer.
But overall, Federer has had a more impressive career, and I don't think Nadal can match it. The thing is, Federer always gets to French Open Final, but Nadal never gets to US Open Final. Federer would beat Nadal in the US Open, if he ever got far enough!
