I agree that their show was easily good enough for top 4 but I think you also need to take into account that they were the defending champions and it is naturally more difficult to defend the title again in the next year. Would anyone actively want to see one crew like staying on top for 5 years?

BOTY was often unfair btw, for example Mortal Kombat crew never made it into top 4, whereas "Funk fellaz" of germany made it into top 4 only because their sponsor demanded this to be so.
