The water monster is not deaf, though, and it can hear you when you make splash-sounds when moving in the water. This was your fatal mistake.

@pHappyfeet the monster is named a kaernk. it is invisible to the naked eye and was contained within wells in the depths of Brennenburg Castle(you would know this from the notes that you find, and not being a dumbass). The Shadow following Daniel consumes room after room, until it causes structural failures that allow the deadly Kaernk to escape. It spashes as it walks, its blind, and will be distracted by anything the disturbed the water, such as a book or human flesh that you find.

The Kaernk, sometimes referred to as the Water Lurker, is a water-dwelling, other-worldly creature that is invisible to the naked eye.

The Kaernk is only capable of attacking things that wander into the shallow pools that it inhabits. However, what it lacks in reach it makes up for with its invisibility. Daniel can only see where the monster is by the loud splashing noises, the water particle effect it makes when moving, and the banging it makes on doors when trying to break them down.

The Kaernk does have a form - although not many believe so.

It is actually just a big ball... The game devs never needed anything else - just a mass to chase the player that would trigger the splashing! - You can stand on him if you get in the right place - they are really all bark and no bite, - its even possible to "Kill" them if you throw a box at them hard enough! - They end up falling through the map because of the shape they are. :D

The water monster doesn't have any type of form :P the developers kept in mind that a monster is scarier the less you see of it, so they intentionally didn't give it a form. It's up to the player to leave what the karnak looks like in their own imagination :)
