Simona might not be an artistic gymnast, but her hard-work has earned many people's respect, she probably worked harder than most of the other gymnasts. I'm so happy that she got the AA gold in 2000.Raducan is also a great gymnast, but she did NOT put in as much work as Simona did, especially considering Raducan only continued a few years after syndey, because her weight was not manageable any more. While the weight problem never happened to Simona, why? BECAUSE SHE WORKED MUCH HARDER!!!!
@PLANETIMAGE1 Weight is not why Raducan quit it was because she had knee problems, if you look at the 2001 Worlds you will see her knee is taped. If you look at recent pictures you will find she had gained little to no weight. Libertatea did an article on her not too long ago and she said she weighed only a little more than when she was a gymnast.
Like someone else said Raducan quit because of major knee problems.
Anyway, I agree. Simona was probably the hardest working gymnast that went to the 2000 games. Although, I do believe Raducan deserved the gold more on the night.
That Geinger was half seated @ regrasp by the looks of it! and whilst were on the subject of Amanar's EXTENSION....was she ever able to fully extend her legs on anything guys?? to me (personally) it always looked like she had some kind of hamstring problem...the legs were never fully locked out....I dunno it looked weird, 'personally' I was never much of a fan of her 'rough' style of gymnastics...excellent acrobat obv, but not artistic! polite debate invited if you think she was......thx
Agree with you, bent legs .I dont think she was as flexible as some of her team mates.
The only place i see her extend her legs was onvault where she can really twist and fully extend.Bear in mind that she wasn't known as a barsworker, she is a tumbler although if she was better on bars she might have won an AA World Title.
They really should get compulsories back so that they will be truly nitpicky for simpler movements. I assume those nitpickiness would effect to optionals.
Daniela Silivas- please help the Romanians on bars. Remember when you hit your handstands and had exciting routines? Why can no Romanian hit a handstand since 1989 when you last competed?
bars are not where they excel at all,the artistic value is not there at all.and the scores recieved by romania reflect on the lack of lines they have.
Tim should of said the other romanians who competed in 2 olympics cause there were only 4, Nadia Comaneci, Lavinia Milosovici, Gina Gogean, and Simona Amanar, simple right??
You're right in that all four gymnasts you listed competed in two Olympic Games, but there were actually more than four. Cristina Grigoras is another who comes to mind.
Grigoras competed in the 1980 and 1984 Olympics. Tim mentioned the headliner gymnasts who had competed in two Games but probably just forgot the other, lesser-known ones.
Hard to believe but she was an European champion on this event in 1996..

Hideous! I thought her bars were better the year prior. Bent legs in giants and no handstand position.

me encanta esta chika lastima q sus extensiones en barra sean malas pero en suelo y salto es la mejor

I think you are sayint that it's a shame Simona does not get full extension on bars-I agree. :)
audie83 3 years ago
She was actually better on bars in 95-96 which much nicer form. I did not say great, I said better. Her bars got worse as she got older.
