I canNOT BELIEVE how cheesey that anime' was, man and I LOVED Robotech as a kidd. I still do, but I cannot watch this anime' with dialogue on anymore.
great clip, I also like Roy's last battle. I got the chance to meet Carl Macek and I was probably about 16 but even then I could tell what passion he had for the show and for bringing these stories to the U.S.

To all of those Robotech fans who haven't yet taken the plunge, try the original Japanese series with subtitles (the Japanese voice acting is incredible and the english dub by ADV is bad). As a fan from the original North American airing of Robotech in the 80's, it wasn't easy to sell me on SDF Macross, but now I have to admit that what's lost from Robotech is more than compensated for in SDF Macross.
I think what you mean to say is that what was lost IN Robotech is worth finally seeing the way it was intended. Go back and re-watch Macross with the ADV Dub, they did a fantastic job at getting some real drama in with the characters that was true to the original script. Roy Focker's voice is perfect, lt Ichijyo's voice is perfect, and most importantly Captain Global and Commander Hayase's voices are spot on.
Sweet!! While Star Blazers was the first anime I ever saw, Robotech is my favorite anime EVER!! I remember watching it way back when it was first on in the 80's! The coolest anime ever hands down! I still have original Robotech toys from back then as well! Who didn't want to pilot those bad ass Veritechs?!!

I grew up with Robotech and only until recently did I see Macross
I thought both were excellent. IMO I thought Robotech version characters just had a little more soul and also as a whole. cheers

Rick Hunter was awesome. He had some unparalleled feats singlehandedly as a Veritech pilot.
This being one of them.
He pretty much became untouchable after the battle with 4 million units of Dolza's fleet all the way to the end of the series.

What I don't like of this episode:
1) max & miriya are the ones that appear out of nowhere , they had many episodes without showing up in the series.
2) you don't see how Lisa escapes out of the SDF1 when Kyron's ship crashes against them
3) you don't see Capt Global's death nor Claudia, and the rest
4) Lisa Escapes without a single scratch.
5) Fight scenes for Rick Hunter are too short, in the beginning they were longer, more action than drama.

Yeah, that lacks in this episode, but you have that in comic books - I think it's DC comics, named "With the stars" I guess - check it out, it's cool
