The ball seems underpowered because it requires more interaction and skill from the player. With today's machines, you flip a ball and it'll disappear for 5 minutes hitting thousands of bumpers, ramps, catapults, tunnels and targets. You might as well go out for a cup of coffee before the ball comes back to your flippers!
@sirlordwhitman That's about the same state as every Gorgar machine I've ever played. No matter how well maintained the machine is the flippers are really weak. You can rarely make it up to "The Pit" on a flipper shot alone, you gotta get tricky and get it in off a pop bumper.
I've played around 4 different Gorgar machines and it's sad that the one with the best flippers in on the Williams Pinball Hall of Fame video game.
@PressStartComic Ya.. but I still love the dynamics of the ball around the playfield. For what little bumpers there are, the ball goes crazy - unlike my Pinball Galaxy which I haven't put together yet - all of the action is on the top half of the playfield ; the ball practically has to pack a lunch and a suitcase for the long journey it has to make.
Been playing this on Pinball Hall of Fame (360). The most unforgiving pinball machine in the lineup. I would judge that the reason for this is the astonishingly unfair likelihood of the ball entering the left or right pits. Look at them. The architecture of those areas basically invites it to happen. None of the later pinball machines (in PHoF) are so brutal in this regard.
At the Silverball Museum pinball arcade in Asbury Park, NJ, I hold the current record of 515,650 pts at Gorgar. The trick is to light all the bonus targets to get Gorgar to say "me hurt" then hit the pit for 50,000 pts.
I have this game too. I had to add it to my collection. I used to play in from 79-81 when I went to RETS electronic school in Lousiville. There was a donut shop next door & I used to play it there on breaks.
I think the reason why the flippers seem under powered is because the table is tilted down too much. A lot of people do this to make the game play "faster".
Ahhh brings back many childhood memories. I first remember tilting Gorgar at a resort not far from funspot. I also remember many a token spent at Funspot over the years. They do an outstanding job of maintaining their games, and its always a pleasure to go there when I am in the area.
I just bought "Williams Pinball Hall of Fame" on the PS2 system. It's a compilation of 8 games, including Gorgar (the Wii & PSP versions have 10 games). The sound and art is EXACTLY like the arcade and the physics are damn good too. Check it out.
I just bought one for 400 bucks its a good as your gonna see .
i replaced the flippers thinking that would do it .
But the power is just about the same , thought about putting in a higher rated solenoid . But been tod that might start breaking plastics .
But what i did do is put 2x4 under the back legs and gave it a higher rake .
That has for sure changed the game for a better challenge .

There's a song called "Gorgar" from a metal band called "Helloween". And I thought: WTF is a Gorgar?
Now I know it. A song about a pinball machine. That's pretty odd! ^^

Yeah, reminds me of this song about some deaf dumb and blind kid...

This was a hot game. Now throw some Defender on there.
meyersd66 4 years ago
Sadly if your talking about the Defender pinball machine, FunSpot doesn't have it. I've never seen the machine in person myself.
However, if it's the arcade game you're talking about we'll have tons of footage of Defender AND Stargate when we go to this year's tournament.
Twin Galaxies will be there and they want to get both game's records broken. I'm no match for it, I can barley pass the third stage.

Aww shoot, Stargate? You are makin' my mouth water! I was talking about Defender arcade game. See if you have any Star Wars too!
