i had read about mossadegh a few times, thats from wikipedia. i have the name as a joke. i find the 4th to be the easiest holiday to enjoy (im not a holiday type) but also feel quite uncomfortable with. it done mean shit.

I used the word "defeated", since he illegally acted aginst the "consitutional monarchy". He was the one who staged an actual coup. He imprisoned many notables to enforce his actual coup! He fell since he had no support but Tudeh, and when Tudeh started marching to their own beat. Again, what is being called a CIA coup was a people's revolution!!! Do we calibrate our lives by what CIA releases? Facts chanage and get messaged as adnimistrtaions change.

The coup was actually illegal, as a firman required a no confidence vote from the Majlis to be legitimate. Also, while Iranians did participate in the coup, many of them had been paid either directly or indirectly by CIA to riot against Mossadegh. Many of the 300 who died during the coup were found with money distributed by CIA in their pockets. And, while a few Iranians may have celebrated the Shah's return to power, the 1979 Islamic Revolution shows that that joy did not last long.

Mossadegh illegaly dissolved the Parliament of Iran leading to a state of emergency which was dealt with accordingly with Mossadegh removed from his office. That the CIA supposedly had any major part in this is ludicruous and as finghili has stated is only brought up and exaggerated to discredit the late Shah of Iran as a "puppet" which the events of 1970's prove the contrary.

Arymehr- You should read Stephen Kinzer's book about the 1953 coup to clear up your misconceptions. Not even the most jingoistic American historian believes that the CIA overthrew Mossadegh in response to his dissolution of Parliament. At least you could've said we deposed Mossadegh to prevent a communist coup. Its not true, but at least it would have been a better argument. Perhaps the fact that the United States received 40% of Iranian oil after the coup suggests a different motive?

Finhilli: As much as they want it appear that way US/UK were never that good to start so late, spend so little Money, and change regimes by snapping their fingers. There are clips showing how the whole country rejoiced with the return of the Shah.

Fact checking? Proof? Published CIA documents? That's a good one. Conveneintly the so called facts are once called fraud, and once the truth. We heard similar thruths for elsewhere :-))))

finghilli: Mossadeq was legally elected, but also legally dismissed. Mossadeq virtually supported by Tudeh (Stalinist group) was defeated by the people and Imperial Guard, before any alleged U.S. and U.K. actions. US/UK took the extra steps to esnure Mossadeq, and hence Tudeh, are completly out-rooted ONLY after the Monarchist movement were successful.
