The pop means u got too much backpressure. Get sum bigger tubes and headers if u dunt already. And do you know if the rear bumper/side skirt body kits from a four door will fit a wagon? Just got a 98 wagon

Really? I just installed 2 1/4" pipe and it still pops... As for the body kit the side skirts should fit but the rear bumper is different. It also depends on the kit. I have seen kits for the Escort where the rear bumper is just a wrap that you fiberglass to your stock bumper, which will work on the wagon. If the kit has the whole bumper you can chop the bottom off it and fiberglass it to the stock bumper.

the popping is it backfiring. pretty much any high-flow exhaust will do this when you give it a lot of gas and then let off quickly. it isn't because you have too much back pressure.

I just needed a 1 7/8" OD to 2" ID adapter sleeve to fit it to the stock exhaust. I welded some hangers to it and added a piece of tail pipe out the back. I also added a 3" stainless tip later.

Yes, it has its cat. Exhaust is completely stock except for the muffler. I have also observed that the exhaust doesn't pop after you warm it up. I will have to get a video of it when its warmed up.
