I hate that SAS had to shut down. Some of the best races I ever witnessed were on top of a pitbox at San Antonio Speedway.

You think the owners would allow any racing to go on on the track! Looks like it's in real good shape! Itd be freaking awesome to race on a abandoned speedway

i miss this place. i used to go there every weekend with my dad. alot of memorys there

so anyone know if they were trying to sell the track looks like a lil maintenance and clean up it would be good to go. the dodge weekly series is now NASCAR WHELEN ALL- AMERICAN SERIES. its a true shame these race tracks go by the way side.

I saw this for the first time I believe right after it closed while my ex-husband and I were checking out the new Toyota factory. Had no idea we had a speedway. How long had it been open before they closed it?

San Antonio Speedway opened in 1977 and closed in early 2007.

SA Speedway closed in early '07 due to financial problems. While I was taking photos, owner and his son showed up and tried calling cops since they thought that I was a copper thief (what gave me away? was it my camera?)....After about 45 minutes of waiting with police nowhere to be found, we started talking about politics, Speedway, etc....In the end we actually parted ways on rather friendly terms...They even gave me ride back to my truck....It's a strange world.
