@mschippie656 If you're using the slipknot technique, it's pretty good at staying tied. I've never had trouble with the slipknots coming untied or loose, even when kids are running around in it. The double knot technique will definitely stay on.
@maqsizu Hello again, the non sew ebook I have for sale shows how to make a turkey tutu aka triple layer technique, which can be used to make a peacock tutu... just change the colors. I also show how to make a regular tutu dress and an empire waist tutu dress. For the imperial tutu, you can follow the onesie tutu technique in the Easy Sew ebook by sewing the tulle layers to the lycra bodysuit. But you do need to sew. Or just make a regular tutu and wear it over a bodysuit. :)
@maqsizu@maqsizu I don't show how to make a four layer tutu only because it will be too bulky at the waist. The only way to achieve a 4 layer tutu is to sew. I do show the triple layer tutu in the non sew ebook. :)
Thanks, I'll try that. My husband came up with an idea as well, just don't know how it will work either. He said why not double the elastic and just sew it together in about four places to keep it together but leave in the stretch. I am going to try both ways. If that doesn't work, the larger sizes will just have to be made on ribbon instead. I don't want my product to suffer because there is too much tulle. I recently did a 48" waist. Cut the elastic 5 in short, then sewed. Never again.
Very professional. I agree with the double knotted tulle. It makes a much fluffier tutu that stand out and I have no complaints from my customers. Lately, I have had several orders from adults waning tutus and find that the elastic stretches horribly with as much tulle as I put on mine. Triple layers. Do you have any ideas on how to keep the elastic from stretching so much? I have been sewing up and down on my elastic to fortify it. Any other idea?
@miamichild59 I've never tried making an adult tutu using more than one layer. I think you might want to start off cutting the elastic a few inches more than the waist measurement and sew the ends together. Once you have the desired amount of knots tied on, then you can cut the elastic down. I believe that will keep the elastic from overstretching. This is just a theory for larger waist sizes. I would love to hear if this works for you. :)
HINT: When you do the first knot use a fat marker between the elastic and knot so you dont tie to tight and keep adding knots and slide over the marker.... when I got the hang of this I found I got to relaxed and started tieing to tight, the marker helped alot.... Good luck peeps!
Ok so I have a I am getting a reborn baby doll sense thats not a real baby can I use one of those elastic hair bands so I don't have to sow please responde asap so I can get started :D
Yes, you can use an elastic hairband to make the tutu. I would try to get the headbands that are smaller... try the kids hair section at target/walmart or maybe even in the kids clothing section.
You can use ball point pins to gather the loose elastic and pin in place so it doesn't slip off of paper towel roll. Or bring it around your thigh and work from there.
I've found an easier way to make them, that's kind of difficult and it looks more sloppy. Too much time is going to into making something that doesn't look as good as it could.
hey, thanks for sharing the video. I've made one tutu skirt for my dd. but it wrinkled and the tule looks very messy. Do you have any tips to share to make wrinkled tutu neat and nice? Thanks :)
I used strips of a bunch of garbage bags, with some ribbon tied at the top for some pazzaz! I also used this elastic that can e adjusted. Its realy pretty because with the bags you already have a whole bunch of layers and all you do is just poof it out[:
its really pretty, i made it for my little cousin for thanksgiving
It all depends on the childs age/size. Two rolls may be enough for a baby tutu, but toddler tutu may require at least 4 if you're going to use the 3" spools.
I have instructions on how to make double layer and a triple layer tutus in my ebook. You can find it there with several pages of step by step instructions and pictures of each step. :)

That would be a great costume. You can pretty much make any costume with a tutu. Pair it with a tie dye shirt and make a colorful rainbow color tutu. :) I think that's hippie. :)
I love your method! I've been looking around and I like yours the best. Thank you for sharing. Six inch wide tulle makes a fuller tutu than the others I've seen. And your instructions are very clear. Thanks again! :)
I love your video - thank you. I want to make a tutu to add fullness to the skirt of my daughter's Halloween costume, and also to peek out under the hem. However, I am concerned about it being scratchy. Do you have any tips for the type of tulle to purchase to prevent this, or suggestions for adding a liner?
@mireillemt All tulle will feel pretty scratchy. You just have to make sure you're not purchasing the tulle with the large netting. For a liner you can use a slip underneath the tutu. Or you can take lining fabric of some kind and sew underneath the tutu at the waist.
My ebook includes the empire waist dress instructions. At this time, I have no video tutorial for that, however I hope to work on some in the near future.
Sorry for the late response! I'm using 3/4". One inch is not too big. The width of the elastic determines how thick the waistband will look. There's a lot of customers of mine that using 1.5" and some that use less than 1/2". It all depends on how you want it to look. I think 3/4" is pretty standard and safe.
Your right,I love the double knot better.....I am trying to have a baby now and I hope to have a lil girl so I can make tutus for the babygirl.......I love your tutorial, thanx for the tips
great tutorial! i've just started making tutus and this is EXACTLY what i was looking for! you answered a lot of questions i had on how to make a more "professional" looking tutu! THANK YOU!!!
Great to see the ebook tutorial in action! Love it! :) Hope you'll post or sell video tutorials of the other versions in the ebook. I already mastered the techniques, just think it would be cool to have a video companion!

How long should I make a tutu for a 1 yr old? estimate
juldga 1 year ago
My ebook has the exact measurements...
You can get exact measurements by
measuring child from waist to the point you
want it to end at. :) 1 year old would probably
be 8-10" long...just an estimate...don't have
my size chart in front of me right now.
