I've done this. It has nothing to do with Chi. The corner of a drinking glass is very strong against the flat, weak side of a concrete block. The corner of the cinder block is very strong against the weak side of a drinking glass. Simple physics.
@Sorinphyre It's also because glass has a higher compressive strength than that of steel and when he slams the glass on the side it challenges the tensile strength o the glass, which is weak.
i had a question i heard that the iron bag conditions the chi. my question is do the gravel bag and mung bean bag condition the chi as well and help with the chi projection and developing a penatrating strike or do they juss condition the skin, bones, and tendons ?
None of these techniques apply to combat because they are irrelevant. Cool trick... I want to see more :-)
We need to separate magic from self-defense based martial arts, and I mean magic in terms of trickery and cleverness. I love watching magicians, and that's what this was.
Who would waste their time with "chi techniques" for self-defense??
Take this for what it is -- a very interesting demonstration.
@weisschr For simple self defense, chi techniques may indeed be overkill, but against more experienced enemies, any edge is superior. Furthermore, chi isn't size-descriminatory. It affects opponents of all masses equally and has instant efficacy when properly developed. And finally, chi techniques were pioneered in an era when your enemy was no more than a bow-shot and more probably a sword-thrust away. Highly relevant.
@Spartacus1859 Breaking makes sense in that it teaches you to hit harder and with more focus. Back when your opponent could be wearing breakable armor, this was very relevant. However, compare the value of learning how to break a cement block with a glass vs. spending an equal amount of time working on strength, focusing on a kicking or punching technique, or learning a better disarming technique. I think I know where I would rather spend my time, and what has more value in self-defense.
@weisschr Eventually, being able to strike with a few more PSI isn't going to make a difference. Being able to do force transfer on contact - say through a breastplate or a ribcage - does what your strength training tries to do without dissipating force on the obstacles between you and your real target.
@weisschr MY FRIEND WHEN YOU PUT THE TIME INTO THE BASICS THEN EVERYTHING ELSES TIME IS CUT IN HALF. iN CHINA THE OLD MASTER ARE FEAR NOT BECAUSE OF THEIR PUNCHES OR KICKS, BECAUSE OF THEIR ABILITY TO KILL WITH LITTLE EFFORT, AND BREAKABLE ARMOR IS ONLY WITH PUNCHES KICKS, A VIBRATION CAN TRAVEL THOUGH FRAGIL OBJECTS TO DESTROY SOLID OBJECTS, SMALL VERSES STRONG.
@Spartacus1859 I understand conditioning and toughening. I do pushups constantly, but I haven't used a pushing motion like that in a fight since junior high school. I just question the value of learning how to break a cement block with a glass... I don't see the connection at all other than as a cool demonstration.
you do it.... or shut up. Youtube is open for anyone to put videos up. Why all the hatred over this anyway? Is this really causing a large ripple in your pond grasshopper? Grow up and if you don't like it, then don't watch it.
the fighting application that would applied to this type of break was used when could not get a weapon in close to target. this is the same concept of using a empty beer bottle. remember demostrations is more to test ones ability of a varies strikes
nobody said it was mystical just rare, you know when my teacher start learning vibration palm skills john demo so many physical experiements on this art. MARTIAL ARTS AND SCIENCE GOES HAND AND HAND. WARNING YOU PLAY WITH THIS YOU COULD LOSE A FINGER
Wow this is incredible sir! I almost still can't believe it, but there it is right in front of me. Thank you for a wonderful video sir. You are very skilled.
Great job!!! I am so thrilled to see you have your own school!! The training "Teacher" put us through saved my life-literally!! Where are you located?
Grow up.
This is a real demonstration of Chi
Sorry, got distracted. I meant to say "This is a real demonstration of Chinese bullshit."

@weisschr Iron horse doesn't apply to combat either. But it does conditions you and gives you greater ability when you do enter combat.

I'd love to see some combative applications of chi techniques...the demonstrations always seem limited to brick breaking or candles.
