these are all great tests, really put the knife into hard use and it held through. im a firefighter and just ordered this knife but serrated for cutting ripes, seatbelts ect. im glad i made the right choice it seems to look like itll hold up for my POU
Hi noss , i hope that one day you make the destruction test of the esee 5 because for my learning this knife is made to found your way out of a crached helicopter. I really like your vids . Thanks
looks like a great little knive, i cant fathom ever doing things like this with any knife, but the fact that it can stand up to that kind of punishment and keep going is outragious, and that they will replace it even after all that abuse. i dont see a problem w/ its lack? of chopping power i have a machete and a axe that do that just fine, for what i will use it for it will last longer than i will, cant wait till mine gets here!!!!!
@Kacious420 I think I read on here that RAT even replaced one of their knives after someone took a chainsaw to it, to see if it would either bust the chainsaw, or bust the knife. The knife was destroyed, the video seen by RAT, but they still replaced it. Proper customer service.
i like the fact that your dilivering honest tests of the knives abilities but it disapoints me that the knife was wasted when you could have just given it to me. lol
It did extremely well, ESEE knives are great all together and a good value. Very good chance it would have held a little (or a lot) more to the standing/bouncing test if it hadn't had a chunk of metal taken off by the diagonal 3lbs. hammer impacts to the spine.
There is a lot of good value in these tests even if you don't believe in the full destruction, consider how the Fallkniven A1 outperformed the Scrapyard Scrapper 6 easily in all actual performance tests...the little ESEE 4 did also ;)
Most impressive test! Would have expected the tip to break in the concrete. I have had the tips 'good' knives break in wood...so I was surprised to see this knife hold its own in concrete. Not sure why you would want to do this but I guess it shows its strong. Was surprised though to see it break ... perhaps hammering the thing into the concrete block didn't do it much good. Will definitely buy RAT but will go the RC-6 instead (better chopping).
Yep, RAT customer service is second to none from all I've heard. I just received my RC-4 in the mail today. It will see some use, but nothing like this!
@aseglkj i doubt you'll have a 225 pound jason masked man hop on it in the jungle... id trust my life to this knife... no way in hell it'd break on you in that kind of enviornment... peace
@sk8rPhil93 my point was that this guarantee is useless. either the knife is breakable - then I won't buy it in the 1st place. or the knife is unbreakable - then there is no use for a guarantee.
although, on second thought, 1095 isn't an impact resistant steel. it doesn't have any alloy components to give it impact toughness. there are tons of reports and pictures of 1095 blades that are broken by chopping or batoning out there.
@aseglkj yep, i dont do much batoning, when i do i use my ontario rat 1 folder, aus 8 is really good. i think the likelyhood of 1095 when used properly, shouldnt break, its steel vs wood and if steel dosent win then dont buy that steel. even if it has a warranty :P
You sticking this knife into concrete block with a hammer prove the tip strengh. That is the most impressive scene to me. I just ordered this knife. I rely on this knife long absolutely. Thanks.
Wow, that thing had the crap beat out of it. It suprised me when it held up so well to chopping through concrete and being used as a nail in that concrete. I need to get me one of those.
I would like you to try and "destruct" the ESEE 5, it is built a little better for such crazy test.

Chopping concrete blocks, huh? Looks like a realistic test.

@lardlizard So does most people. The guy in this video is simply going above and beyond to show people how much a knife can really take.

Moral of this whole thing, don't treat your knife like a damn crowbar.

@pietzeekoe that's gonna help you fuck all if you're stuck in some jungle with a broken knife.
a guarantee on survival knives is like a guarantee on parachutes. "we'll replace it if you ever get smeared across the landscape." gee thanks.

@Taud Yes they did replace this knife. It was donated to me and returned to the owner who sent it in and they replaced it for him.
noss4 4 months ago
@noss4 Oh, well maybe for this specific test than
If your average joe did this i doubt they would replace it, i had spoken to users who threw the knife and it broke, was not replaced under warranty
They might have done this for publicity, their knives are worth looking into though
