  • depression is just a mental state of being master it and you will masteryourself secondly get a dick some balls and you can go places, thirdly don't depress others with depression, its contagious, you have no hope why give others what you give yourself. Get a job, get working volunteer or something

  • Matt,

Hang in there, man. Sometimes I feel so alone with my depression, but it pulls me through to know there are others going through the same thing. Your strength gives me strength.

  • Have u tried Lyrica(Pregabalin)?

    Worked for me.

  • Keep on going brother!

Best wishes for your sister too, we need more nuns.

  • Hey Matt, great vlog! Good to see that you stopped drinking, because I´ve made the same bad experiences with it in my major depression and anxiety disorder. I think the drinking pushes the depression a lot. I hope the meds that you take will help you. I´m taking duloxetine and baldrian. I really can understand the loss of enjoyment in life, but you know that it will be back , right? take care there

  • Sometimes treatment-resistant depression is actually bipolar depression. You might ask your doctor about a mood stabilizer to see if he thinks this might work for you.

  • That's so true depression is like the cancer of the mind and it's a constant battle. Hope you find a spark of inspiration and boldness to start living again soon ,if that makes sense. Motivation is something I lack too.

    Hope you feel better soon.

    Bless ya

    Emma

  • u need to put on some alice cooper makeup and harass stickam rooms again. (wink) hope u feel better son bro.

  • Are you taking any medication, and if so how long.

I was very depressed for a long time then I forgot to take my medication, I started to feel better.

I would talk to you docter about changing.

I didn't have time before I went to work to watch the whole vlog, so I hope you are doing better, if not I hope this edvice helps.

  • I was searching for Dharma Talks and I got one of your videos about it, then i saw that most of your videos are about depression/bipolar. At your age, i was like you, now i am free of depression. I took pills few times becuase it didn't make any different. I suggest check your diet, here we eat TOO MUCH sugar and i can tell for myself when i eat less sugar, it is a huge different in my mood also if you can stand fresh garlic, try a claw of it and see how you feel......

  • Hello, My name is Jamie, and I live in Colorado like you. I saw your first post when I saw your Best Buy Job Interview and I am also looking for a job, some job , any job. I also had chronic depression for years and I found ways to cope and I hope i can give you support and encouragement. Keep in touch

  • so, on the risk of sounding hackneyed, here's my advice: accept yurself (u may think that u do, but deep inside u wanna be somebody else), hold on to things that keep u going (family, that lovely cat of yours), have more sex (too forward? srry :P), no more "to do" lists (at least not that long); and always have in mind that u won't feel like this forever, that no matter how unlikely it sounds things will get better, be actively patient (the way u r now). Wish u good luck ...

  • Geez...I used to feel like that, It's like listening to myself...Luckily I haven't felt that way for about a year (and I'm pretty sure that telling u this might not help u at all), but for what it's worth here it goes: I think u r perfectly normal, funny, smart, good-looking (I'm not hitting on u! lol); but u r experiencing what I like to call self-dissapointment which is produced when at a certain age (20 something) u haven't acomplished what u expected (from life)...

  • IQ correlates with depression. Occurrence of depression is much greater among creative persons than non-creative. Be aggressive about finding people with a mutual perception of the world.

  • I found many similar like minds in depression/bipolar support groups, and yes oddly enough, they seem very intelligent and empathetic. A lot of great people had mental illness, like Lincoln and Van Gogh, etc. The point is, is that they didn't give up.

  • Hey bud glad your doing better! you have my full support....I wish you better days ahead. :)

  • Thanks wizeguy :)

  • i suffer with depression and anxiety.i have had 2 major depression episodes resulting in hospital stays in mental hospitals.i know what you are going through.meds, therapy, and changing psychiatrists worked for me.i wish you all the best!

  • A couple of things I've learned so far: 1. Take life moment by moment, 2. Don't fight your feelings, 3. Never be ashamed to reach out for help

  • I love you, Matt. We are here for you!

  • Thanks Claire :)

  • Oh Matt :(

I'm sorry about what's been going on for u lately. I suck so much cause i still haven't written to u.

I recorded a new vid to put on here..but haven't been able to upload it cause i did it on a new camera. I don't know if i can get it to work or might have to redo it on my other cam. I took an overdose a couple of months ago too and was in hospital, so can imagine how u've been feeling. I'll catch u soon.. take care of urself xoxox

  • Thanks Nayomee, don't let the vid uploading stress ya, you just take care of yourself, as I'm doing as well :) Don't be afraid to send me a message when you are feeling down or suicidal or anything, you know I understand. *hugs* much love!

    -Matt

  • Nice video :) Depression sucks. It's like a futile cycle, the more depressed you get, the more it makes you behave in ways to stop yourself from getting better (not having fun, not getting help, drinking, etc). I hate talking about my feelings, especially depression.

I've found for me the biggest help was just time. Motivation will eventually creep up and then I can get help to finish it off.

  • Yeah, Depxiety is even worse, your social anxiety prevents you from doing the one thing that would help your depression the most, being with and talking with other people. It's a dangerous path to tread, but we don't choose it, we fight our natures.

  • dude we are in the same boat :)

  • aww you too? Like minds we have, don't we?

  • Yes, my friend, indeed we do.

  • Oh you're in school right now? How do you feel about your peers?...I know the social dynamics of a classroom certainly wear on a person's individuality , depending on the nature of the group and one's experience in a classroom setting. During some segments of my schooling I was depressed.

  • college level classes yes, being in class is okay, but getting up the motivation to go to class and do assignments is extremely difficult.

  • Hey Matt,

You're alright man hang in there. There's hope man. In the difficult times its hard to see the way out, but you always get out, you know you do and you will. Better times are ahead. "Human Givens" is a fantastic approach to depression. Imagery and visualization helped me immensly.

  • Imagry and visualization of what?

  • Ever hear of the movie "The Secret", about manifesting your goals?...Well the brain science behind it is exploding, and while in "the secret" it's applied very materialistically, the principals discussed in the movie have broader application.

  • Imagery and visualization, eastern principals of mindfulness....these are effective treatments - most conventional therapies trap people into analysis and introspection that is only more damaging. Access you subconscious with visualization and you will reframe your reality. Research this stuff its awsome.

  • If there's away you can get away from being alone so much/isolation/thinking - it will make a world of difference. I tend to think people with anxiety/depression issues also need to get into bodybuilding/fitness and also work towards being in positions of authority where a lot is demanded from you but where you can gain more feelings of purpose and self-worth. If we do the same things, we get the same results. I hope you feel better man and hit on something that gets you where you want to be.

  • Ya I'm in that phys ed class and work out for 40mins twice a week, will probably do more later. I make it a point to always do something every day that gets me out, especially out and around people, cause empirically I can see the benefits in dealing with my depression.

  • I saw this reply from 07Levi

Obviously you havn't suffered depression, yeah working out and fitness is great but when you lack the motivation to even get out of bed and all you want to do is die people telling you to simply go the gym all the time just makes things worse and creates more self loathing because you can't.

I bet we all wish it was that easy.

  • I have suffered from depression, debilitating depression. Unless there's an underlying medical/physical reason for you not feeling motivated, and you have the means to exercise---you should, because it releases endorphins and helps your brain chemistry. I dont think anyone can feel depressed if they're listening to music they like and pumping serious iron. Another aspect of depression is isolation and being stuck inside your own mind--the more outward our focus, the better.

  • what? I haven't suffered depression???

  • At first I was confused by your comment, but I see where you're coming from. This is something we talk about in support groups a lot, the stigma attatched to major depression, that we are just 'lazy' or something, or want to scapegoat out of life. It's ridiculous, depression is seriously a paralyzing agent! And don't talk about it unless you've experienced it, otherwise you just don't know.

  • Hey Matt, I'm sorry to hear you've been miserable recently. I can kind of relate, I think I have undiagnosed depression so I know what it feels like to struggle and want to give up and it's the reason I'm becoming a psychologist. I don't know how you're managing to do school right now it usually makes me worse, but not doing it is not an option. I hope you feel better soon.

  • Ya... it's hard to live independently with depression especially in this individualistic society. I'm thankful for my family in that matter. Yet still I have 'survive' financially, and that alone is a mountain of a task when you're depressed.

  • Hi Matt, Glad to see you making another video. I know what you are going through mate I have suffered depression in different amounts over the last 10 years and look after a wife with severe bipolar depression.

When you feeling really bad try to take some pleasure from the smallest things to get you through. I see 2 beautiful guitars behind you my 2 guitars are my best accute antidepressant ever, sometimes its hard to pick one up but when i do,the joy is awsome.

  • Ah you saw them did ya :) yep I have been known to pick up the guitar when I'm depressed. The songs I sing on them are usually black or white, like I will either sing Good Charolette's "The Day That I Die" or the old classic "Seek Ye First" or "Amazing Grace" , I wonder what type of music would be more healthy... hmm.

  • Yeah mate, you need a new set list hehe.

Really, it doesn't matter what I play just picking up the guitar takes me to a better place but learning a new song always gives great satisfaction and sense of achievment and no matter how small thats good for depression and picking up a guitar unlike getting a new job or becoming a muscle man can, be done at home even in bed on those real bad days.

  • "Happiness includes love" :)

    or...

"Don`t apreciate(charise)" and you will have nothing to apreciate.

Apreciate and you will have everything to apreciate."

  • Indeed thankfulness is a positive tool, as well as love. I'll keep that in mind, thanks.
