"Because I'm your friend." "I don't know what I would have done if you hadn't been here." "You're really my friend?" "I am." I cry every time I see this scene and hear those words because I feel the true friendship they have. It is beautiful and rare to find a real and genuine friend who is always there for you to lean on and who will love you unconditionally.
Anyone is a buddy when times are good. It is the ones who are there for you during the tough times that makes a true friend. :-)
@mrbriscoe2001 I hope not many. This is among the best acting (and movie) I have seen to this day and I felt the same way until entering the healthcare profession. This is a patient/doctor boundary Psychiatrists wouldn't ever cross.
It's so hard to see this kid tear himself apart. I think he deserved Best Lead, but no one would beat Robert De niro. Personally I think Tim Hutton's performance was better.
