I apologise to all the Europeans & Americans reading but imo the BEST music of the 80's was made in the UK, this song was only one of many classics to come out of the country back then.
I agree with you 100%. The best 80s music was from british artists like Duran Duran, Human League, U2 (although their Irish), Sting, Def Leppard, plus all the one hit wonders who recorded classics.
WoW this music is making a come back I see them using it in all the commercials on TV and on the Radio, It brought back memories and I thought this stuff was pretty good. A bit melodramatic but with all the crap in the world of music this is still very good!
A good example of this was when I went to The Who concert about three years ago. The funny thing was this -- I'm 39, and sure there were people in their 50's and older, but mostly everyone in attendance was younger than me. Those kids aren't getting that off of top 40.
A GREAT masterpiece that isn't remembered. I have no idea why. I guess it takes someone like me who has their own individual memories and this song with the soundtrack. ABC, along with "When Smokey Sings" was a major soundtrack of my teen life.
Brit and Aussie bands had some of the greatest talent and voices in the world, especially in the 70's and 80's. Thanks to youtube, I can still listen to these great tunes.
The 80's what an era of music we had...such bands like ABC, Human League, Bananarama, & Duran all UK artists...& still Duran are going strong..What crap the music industry is producing & releasing these days, absolute disgrace....
London seemed so much cooler in the 80's for some reason..never been there but when I watch videos for songs like west end girls..it just looked so cool!
If I had to pick just one song that embodied everything 80's...This is it.
Power, emotion, melodoy (combined with strings and brass (rare these days) Why he even wrote some of his own music.."All of my heart" check it out some time. That would be... dare I say it...skill ability TALENT. Put that up aginst the likes of Britney spears / Pink / christina Aguelira etc and now you know why I visted. I feel refreshed again. God bless you ABC.
Don't have a prob with Aguilera so much but otherwise I know exactly what you mean. I was born in the 80s bt managed to absorb a much of the musical innovation I could at the time. I would love to break the time/space continuum to go back and absorb it all (except for the dire political situation!). Man I feel exactly the same. I was born 83 but I mean, I was just a kid in the 80's. Sometimes I wish I was like 15 when the 80's started. Especially when I hear songs like get rich or die tryin'.
That's funny. I was exactly 15 in 1980 and I blood loved the 80's music and spirit everywhere in Europe. I don't know how it is now a days but the music and youth look very depressing and unhappy to me. I was in England and London in the summer of 1987 and man that was amazing. Amazing spirit of freedom, of having fun, of being young. To me everything looks worse, more negative and aggressive but maybe it's just my impression of being old at my 44. Looks like yesterday though, I still feel same
i was an infant in 1980 =)) but i love this music of my childhood. But at those times here in Russia we haven't got much possibility to hear and watch western music videos... and thanks God that presently we free to do what we want (of cause in a borders of a law ) =)))
Hi Andreymok. I was in Russia in 1984 when I was 19 and visited Moscow, Leningrad, Kiev and Tallin, and indeed it was another world. A very sad and isolated world with no freedom, secret police, KGB everywhere, corruption, fear, black market, and the discos were like the ones from the 60's in the West of Europe, very old fashioned. I know what you mean. I'm glad communism is not there anymore and you may enjoy some freedom (nobody is completely free but communisim and fascism are terrible).
i had to check this = PAUL MORLEY really is in this video [ gold lame jacket+lookin bit tipsy : )) ] !! luv it !! and reminds that trevor horn also had a bit part.
This is so sexy and makes me want to jerk off and oh, just to wanna fuck all these women in this video!!! Yes...oh...yes....This was an influence to my band!!! Influence indeed...
So you want me...I want you...let´s have a sex and this music playing...I undress myself...Then you..ohh..ahh..ouhh..ahh..uhh.ih.uchstohh...you..YOU...undress..OOOHHHHHH...you take your trousers off..then your..OOOOHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I must...I must take my dick...My COCK!!!! and Jerk OFF..OOOHHH MY NAME IS JAY BUT THAT DOESN`T MATTER!!!!!!!!! MY BAND...OOOHHHH..AAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHH...DARVOSETHHhhhhh..hhhh..just like thatrhhhhhh..ooohh...ME..ME JA
ABC rocks!! Its to bad they don't do a full blown reunion concert, or even a reunion tour if they were up to it. They, or rather most of them only reunited for a 1-night concert on a show that played on VH1. From my immediate memory, only the lead singer and the drummer showed up for it. One of the guitarists might have been there, but it's been so long since I've seen it.
"When your world is full of strange arrangments..and gravity will pull u thru, you know your missing out on something and that something depends on you"..."ABC "the lexicon of love".
Sigh. People have forgotten that videos used to be incidental and secondary to the music, so the bands and their teams used them to explore different outlooks on the songs. They were silly, creative, and often wonderful. This bit of whimsy certainly displays ABC's flair for theatrics, as did all videos by Ultravox, Duran Duran, and a slew of other 'New Romantic' bands. Lighten up and enjoy them for what they were, not for whet they seem now, with 25 years of hindsight coloring our view.
These were days of innocence for most of us, and bands like ABC where indicative of the times. There is way to much hate cultivated in our world now, and sex and violence has permeated even the youngest minds, these days are long gone, and for Christs sakes I miss them.. Just ask yourself 1 question, could a movie like GREASE ever make it in these times..I think not.... Doesn't contain enough nudity, violence and political innuendo. Peace!
Why do posters always say the vid's from ABC or the 80's in general, are terrible or weird?.. You've got to remember this is the 80's a time of creativity and imagination when it comes to MTV... Not like the vids of today which only have sex an violence to look at... Now that is what really Sucks!....Long live 80's and early MTV of yesteryear!....."Jagar"
if MTV would start back playing videos, especially ones from the 80s instead of these stupid reality shows, then today's young demographics wouldn't have these dumb expectations of 80s videos.
Damn! It's been years since I saw this. I remember MTV was only able to be viewed on satalite at the time where I was and my buddy had Satalite!! This was one of the first videos I remember seeing on MTV. Memories! :)
Hey chuyalegria, so...what would you like ? yo yo in da house, full effect, yeah yeah...something like that ? please...you don't know about music that still play on the radio for almost 30 yrs!!!

This Video does not accompany the song
at all. They were attempting a campy or
vaudevillian approach that doesn't fit the
song at all. Maybe they were attempting to mirror the success of the Culture Club
video for Kharma Khamellion using the nostalgia of the past as a theme for the
video. Well it doesn't work. Great Song

What?!!?!? MTV still shows music videos?!!?

if MTV would start back playing videos, especially ones from the 80s instead of these stupid reality shows, then today's young demographics wouldn't have these dumb expectations of 80s videos.

An excellent timeless song marred by a truly terrible video. I love this song but the video sucks!

When your world is full of strange arrangements
And gravity wont pull you through
You know youre missing out on something
Well that something depends on you
All Im saying, it takes a lot to love you
All Im doing, you know its true
All I mean now, theres one thing
Yes one thing that turns this grey sky to blue
If you judge a book by the cover,
Then youd judge the look by the lover...
