Halo 2 is and will always be the best halo for it's story it had over 11 campaign missions with a very good explination for the story. And the characters are pro arbiter looks cute the grunts are cuddly MC Is kickass and the gravemind is awesome. There are also many Easter eggs to be found too :)

The only thing I have never really understood about the whole halo story is the gravemind. In this one he seems like a good guy, but in the next he seems like a bad one. Was he ever telling the truth or was he just in it for his own benefit? What was the "secret" he got from cortana and was it a good/bad thing that he learned from her?  Can someone with halo knowledge give me a good response that should answer my questions? I would greatly appreciate it.

Everything Gravemind did was for his benefit, he sent Arbiter to stop the ring from firing, and sent Chief to High Charity to distract the Covenant while he sent the ship In Amber Clad to infect the city. Cortana's "secret" was that she kept the activation index from the first halo that was found.
