  • WHACKY SWEEP

  • NERD POWEEER

  • HELL YA, ROCK ON ED!!!

  • Not fast but clean

  • what happened to ed?

  • @TASGuitar7 he died in a tragic bowtie accident

  • good chops, but i'm not liking the whole nerd look. kinda gay

  • Wot a fucking TWATTY looking GEEK but WOT a FUCKING SHIT HOT SHREDDER.

  • When are you TOOLS gonna realize that it does no good to compare guitarists!!!

You all should thank anyone who picks up and bends a fuckin string,Fuckin Homos

  • What happened to this guy? I used to watch his videos on YouTube a long time ago and I've been hunting for him ever since..

  • @omfgwtfbbqsauce He got killed beacause someone robbed his prize when he won the dean shred contest

  • @TheRaven0us dude really?

  • @TheRaven0us he i sn't dead dumb ass

  • @TheRaven0us Where the fuck did you hear that from?

  • u can ajust the strap by the way

  • this dudes hilarious, hes so fuckin good

  • are you local ? this guy looks like edward the shopkeeper from the league of gentelman

  • it's amazing how you can see people embarasing themselves on youtube because of talking shit and not knowing what they are talking about..

  • really great playing, I don't want to go overboard or anything but Mr. Ed here reminds me of John Petrucci or Paul Gilbert with his beautiful, (obviously relatively) original shred style

  • ED to Shred is amazing!!

  • is Ed in a band? and if not, why the fuck???? look at that skill

  • @RevisedTV Yes he is... We're releasing a CD later this summer....

    Rock on,

    ED

  • you dont need guitar lessons to be good

i think they take away from ones creativity because you can sometimes get people who tell you you gotta play a certain way

  • the man hits all the right notes -__- \m/ he fucking rocks

  • listening to music like this makes me want to have guitar lessons btw i play already but i'm slef taught.

  • what happend to ed?

  • its a cover ? or what ?

  • Hey may have a bowtie, but his shredding is as tight as it gets.

  • is he dead?

  • @11slash711 No... I'm still here. We're getting ready to release a full CD this summer! Check me on myspace (dot) com (slash) edtoshred

  • the guys good but i can' t take him seriously

  • i love your style of playing ed. i love the harmonies you create and the way you compose them all together

  • Who is this guy? by christ he's awesome!!!

  • at 1:27.. .all I can say is that is a textbook example of AMAZING BENDING and killer if not absolutely perfect guitar soloing using pentatonics.

this guy is just amazing. I love it. he has so much soul it makes me pumped to practice. I've never seen so much soul come from a guy in a white button up shirt , tucked in with a bow tie.

  • I saw the dean shredder contest vid and he was doing sweeping non stop and it made me hurl but seeing this i realise i may have a bit of soul after all..

  • This guy sounds like he studied at Juilliard. Great technique, but he has been reading the music of other his whole life. He has virtually nothing that he can credit for himself except for his shiny new Dean guitar. All of his songs and videos have the same riffs. I admit that he can do a few things VERY well... but the lack of true soul and spontaneity in his music means that he will be relegated to obscurity. If he found himself in a place like Austin, TX or Seattle, WA, he would be chewed up.

  • Ever see the movie Crossroards? There lies a Point.aint about likin the dude!

  • what do you judge as soul? This has some very catchy riffs and its played very well..

  • @ManicMonkey84 Don't be a hater. This guy rips like you only wish you could. The melodies he makes are gorgeous, and he deserved to win the contest, especially since everyone else was all about speed [Death Metal Blows], and this guy brought something unique to the table.

  • @toreyspindler It was called the shredder search you moron. The point was to be fast.

  • Hey, very few has something they can be credited for themselves these days. It's all been done in a different tone/effect/octave and so on. I for one have heard very few arpeggios with this kind of feeling.

  • @ManicMonkey84

The thing is, it's good technique but tune that out for a moment and just focus on the backing track - it's completely boring. I've always advocated that regardless of how good you are alone, if you're the only interesting thing, people will become bored.

  • Your all a bunch of Wishers who dont like Structure.

  • sounds pretty fruity man. if its non threatning im not interested. i didnt rate it though cause im not that much of a dick but its soft.

  • @panterajoey So whos better you or Michale Baito?

  • my dick

  • Does the takkin 4 ya ?

  • takin 4 what?! hey man i just dont dig this guys style. this guy was the winner of the contest right? the dean shredding contest? it was supposed to be shredding. there were way better contestants than this and i did not enter btw. i think the song goes no where. not feeling it. i like agressive stuff though not non threatening suburban poop. cant we just leave it at that? why make a big deal about it? leave it alone...

  • @panterajoey

You do know this is NOT the solo he ripped for the contest this is his song the solo atleast to me was very shred style with technique killing everyone elses.

  • So whos the best Josie?

  • Ed is good

  • oh come on, to the people complaining about the shredders contest, there are plenty of hardcore shredders that could rip ed to shreds (pun) who've had lots more than 20 yrs experience. If the contest was a little more heard of, you would of seen far more amazing players. Not that many people heard about it till after it was done. Ed is pretty fucking badass, but yeah in a raw shredding contest, I've seen better in my small town

  • ed did it purley out of self promotion.. bc now hes playin at the NAMM shows... with the razorback he won no where to be found.. fuck ed

  • i agree but he is an amazing guitarist yeah he shouldnt hav entered the shredder search contest is would b easy for any player with 20+ years experience against kids wit 2-5 yrs experience

  • @dinkthestink123

to be fair if I won the golden razorback I'd probable display it in a bullet proof glass case, and rarely play it.

  • I don´t care who won the Dean contest. I´m a guitar teacher and been playing for 15 years and the fact is that Ed plays extremely well and his technique is flawless. He deserved to win.

  • @BLSmetalhead im not saying he didnt... its just like he knows hes that good and he already has sick gear... y enter with a bunch of kids playin on combos and cheaper guitars its like cherry pickin or sandbaggin u kno..

  • Yes. I agree with you, it wasn´t fair. But that´s not Ed´s fault. Anyone was allowed to enter the contest, no matter if you had 1 or 20 years of experience, so technically it´s Dean´s fault for choosing Ed.

  • ed a fucking pussy... he entered the dean dime shredder search and put himself against a bunch of much younger fans of dime who had less experience.. these kids were just playin from the heart and shreddin dime licks and now this dude has a brand new gold dime razorback... did ya really need it there ed? RIP DIME.

  • dimebags licks suck balls no wonder ed beat all those other kids

  • @kumar1280 haha.... youre tight man. keep drinkin

  • Ed is way better than "Buckethead"

  • 3:35-3:37 he did that same thing alot during the song. Maybe he likes how it sounds with the wah pedal :o

  • reminds me of the "in bloom" film clip

  • hahahaha shredding is over?? thats why G3 still going isnt?

  • yngwie malmasteen

  • I challenge anyone to show me a better player than this guy wow

  • MIchael Romeo

  • Comment removed

  • Paul Gilbert

  • @uttfuyrdeytrfuhfuytr O_O thats the name of the janitor at my school, he plays drums like a maniac.

  • Buckethead, Chris Impellitteri, John Petrucci.... Need I go on. Ed to Shred is a good player though. ^^

  • Not "Buckethead", gimmie a break man.

  • @Mrpantymelt Jason becker, shawn lane, guthrie govan, john petrucci, steve vai, greg howe, tony macalpine, vinnie moore, joe satriani, marty friedman, paul gilbert michael romeo, bireli lagrene, frank gambale, rusty cooley, joe stump, matthew mills, jeff loomis, chris broderick, joe pass, luca turilli, allan wholesworth, john mclaughlin, mattias eklundh, riche kotzen, andy timmons, brett garsed, kiko loureiro, robert marcello, muhammed suicmez, chuck schuldiner, etc.

    Check and mate.

  • Steve Vai, Satch, Paul Gilbert, John Petrucci, Yngwie lol

  • I would say you all are idiots... Music dies ( a genre) when its followers become to insulated... Ed rocks and he has a style... the degree of difficulty is not the most important thing about this music, although it is not easy to play either.

  • something only really dies out if people let it, and I can't really seeing it being over =P

  • yep it was 5 years ago 10 years ago 20 years ago .and do you know what ?in 20 years time somebody will be saying the same thing to a new generation.

  • I have tabs for the sweep arpeggio section if anyone wants them let me know

  • Hey Lorcan. I am a long time fan of your videos and a loyal subscriber and I was wondering if you could send them to my myspace? msg me for link.

  • i'd like to have them, if yoou still have those tabs.

  • It's buckethead, unmasked...

  • I don't even care if his good. The point of music is to enjoy it and have a good time listenign to it and I certinly did that just listening to this. Wh ocares if his awesome or if his crap (Which his not :P0 The fact is that, his writing good music, that's all that matters. Because honestly mainstream music is all shit and requires next to no skill to play in most cases. So all the emo trolls on youtube. Cry, me, a river.

  • Its so refreshing to watch someone as talented as Ed just kill it, then read the posts by so many fucktards.

Stupidity really does know no boundries.

  • boundaries*

    and I agree ^^

  • im guesing his using a phaser and octive pedal and overdrive

  • i love his sweeping part. so fucking clean.

  • has Ed come with new stuff lately?!

  • Bill Ny The Sceince Guy?

  • it sounds like a (fast)delay, slight harmonix and chorus mix.

  • i like his tone, nice melodies, fast...i got nothing wrong to say..great player

  • the harmonizer effect is used threw out the entire solo??!!

  • Nah it's not. You can clearly hear when it comes in.. 0:14 0:40

  • in the very beginning hes using a phaser or something. there's effects though. sounds like some sort of doubling. thats why i said a harmonizer or something.

  • Yea, he may be doubling the guitar on the sweeping.

  • yea. im saying his tone in general. the first note he hits has effects on it. check out the slide at .40 seconds into the song. you can notice the harmonix.

  • i really hate sweep picking.sweep picking makes the guitar sound like a fucking faggot harp. not everyone cares to sweep pick so this prick wins and sux balls with his suck ass bolt pon neck ibanez

  • hey fuck you dick

  • jelious much fag

  • jealous?? what the hell are you talking about you stupid god damn retard? why are you trying to cause trouble? i was asking questions about what effects hes using? fag. faggit fucking asshole.

  • Ah fag... the mantra of the prepubescent.

Ed has a pretty damn awesome technique. If any of the naysayers can post a up a vid of their own that shows they can hold their own against Ed, then your opinions carry some weight. Otherwise it's just plain garbage.

  • Michael Angelo Batio was a judge for the dean shredder search so no wonder this guy won the contest, the sweeping def won over batio LOL

  • Ed To Shred fucking kicks ass.

  • You guys are jealous this guy can play fast and with feeling so shut up and learn damn haters this is some sick playing right here

  • Well, there's one particular thing about shredding contests: you are supposed to shred as hard as you can if you get into one. This gentleman does not shred. He plays clean and it's something pleasant to listen to and etc. That's why he shouldn't had won Dean's contest. If it were something like Forget About Dimebag's Brutal Rough Shredding And Play Like You're in Dream Theater's Line-Up Dean Contest, this would had been fair. But that's not the case so fuck him

  • Actually, if you take into account that initally shred was more a style dirived form neo classicial stylings and has it's emphisis on articulation, composition and clever use of arpeggios (ie. Satraini, Vinnie Moore, Mcalpine ect), not JUST speed. This is more of a throw back to old school shred...

  • Another bit of wisdom is that fact that virtually ANYONE can practice a sequence of notes for days and weeks on end and achieve inhuman speeds but to actually formulate that into something that sonically makes sense and has structure and melodic qualities, that takes a higher skill set, hence was he most likely won.

  • Ok, you're 100% correct. The influence of primal classical styles are the unquestionable basis of a consistent, musically expensive work of art. Nevertheless, Dimebag Darrel arranged to establish a fusion between thrash and a crunchy, slower rough style. Personally, i'm more like a melodic type of person, but classic fusions are always welcome and Pantera's style is simply delicious. Delicious, yet brutal. This contest's winner should had impersonated Dime's style, in my point of view.

  • lol angus young is no where near as good as this guy examinationboard

  • we... i would agree and i wouldnt agree at the same time... angus young is a living legend, he's a God and that cannot be denied, technically he's not as good at this character, Ed, Angus Young is a far better musician than he is, AC/DC sold more copies and sells out stadiums, arenas, wherever they are going to play and besides being a far more superior musician he's without a doubt one of the best artists in the world!

  • I personally wouldn't put angus young as being one of the best imo, But then my theme of music comes from more neoclassical, classical etc, but I still respect the fact angus is a good player who has made some very very good solos.

  • Yeah, i'd say i have a more vast preference in music, from blues n' jazz to death metal, but probably this Ed guy is a fan of Angus, AC/DC influenced many bands and artists, same thing with rolling stones or aerosmith, Led Zepplin too (obviously), i would t say he did some really good solos, like Malmsteen, Loomis; MacAlpine, Satriani etc..etc.. but without a doubt he made some of the best rock songs ever!

  • @Decorus11 " Angus Young is a far better musician than he is, AC/DC sold more copies and sells out stadiums, arenas, wherever they are going to play "

That honestly doesnt tell if a guitarist is better. Shawn Lane sold WAY less cds im sure than ac/dc and played and sold way less cds. Yet shawn lane is better than angus and ed combined and that goes for many other guitarist. A musician is not defined by how MAINSTREAM they are, but how proficient a musician is in their field.

  • dude ed is way better than angus young

just cause acdc sold a whole bunch of more stuff doesn't mean anything. they're just better known cause they're mainstream and they've been making music for a really long time

  • Dude! what i am trying to say is... Ed as a guitarist is a MUCH better guitar player than Angus Young there's no doubt in my mind, and probably he's one of the best i've heard so far!!! but as a musician or artist, Angus would win that contest at any given day!

AC/DC is mainstream cause everyone loves them! they simply just fucking rock! they are my fav band, but i prefer other musicians! BB King for example.

    anyways... i wish u a happy new year ;)

  • oh okay well when u say it like that it makes more sense :]

  • @tehaznman man are you morron????angus not better than ED WTF are you talking bout??angus got one of the most unique styles in rock music and AC DC made that crazy 3 cord progresion .... so angus young is god to ed

  • @tehaznman yeah, is like saying slash is better anc can play anything MAB does, he has a guitar hero, but not the skill of a real guitar hero ;)

  • @tehaznman acdc sucks angus young needs to put a shirt on all their songs are the same 3 chord progressions

  • @tehaznman yea, playing power chords and dancing does not mean you are good at guitar

  • wtf??

    he looks like a fake...

    of course, he can play...

    but seriously...

    hahahahaaaaaa!!!

  • only thing that upsets me, is that he isnt using a Dean......

  • haha why that ibanez i think it is kicks ass ^_^

  • fuuuuckk!!!!!

  • I can see why he won the shredder search! He has actual sounds to his playing, all the other entries are pure shred, 100%, and basically had no actual sound to them, just a billion random notes that didnt even sound good nor did they make sense...

    YOU ROCK ED!

  • i think ed is eddie van halen in disguise :D

  • cant be van halen theres no smoke in the guitar headstock strings

  • why did he get banned?

  • he still has an account check bangyoured ... thats him.

  • ed is awsome! but he sorta feaks me out cause he kinda looks like jeffrey dahmer haha

  • lmfao

  • Yeah... he tears it up! Makes me feel all kinds a funny!

  • he won the dean shredders contest :3

  • "i miss you ed" .. did he die?

  • no he got banned

  • from youtube? for what?

  • what else? :P

  • why did he get banned?

  • dunno

  • he probably shred to hard, it made them crazy.

  • LOL right

  • ed to shred is skwisgaar skwigelf !! omg

  • I have determined that the sweeps at 1:08 caused this man to orgasm.

  • I second this finding.

  • third, ahhh sexiest sweeps ive heard in awhile

  • Eargasms my friend... eargasms

  • 1:28 lol i was like wtf

  • its like weezer meets yngwie malmsteen. lol sweet sweeps. really fluid

  • spent the whole video watching how relaxed both his hands are through the whole song, dont see many players able to maintain that much control

  • These are the kinds of people that playing guitar is just second nature to. They pick it up, and within a year or two they're playing like this.

  • Really, you just have to spend a lot of time practicing. I could do all this in a year, but thats only because i spent lots of time practicing as Ed here must have. The more practice, the stronger your fingers, and the more you learn.

  • same, i learned this stuff in a year to, you just have to be constant in practicing

  • you learnt this in a damn year!?!?!?! Damn you rock lol

i am a guitarist for 2 months! My dream is to be able to play to what Ed is playing to :P

  • yes he learnt in a year but prior to that he's been playing for 20 years i heard sumwhere

  • damn his style is like joe satriani or something. its wicked i like it even more than buckethead his sweeps are clean and the technique is flawless. you gotta be able to shred to win the Dean contest though

  • the sweep picking is soooo smoooth! keep it up with the shredding!!!!

  • Those are some of the most fluid sweeps i've ever heard

  • Search some Human Abstract and Between the Buried and Me, both have amazing guitarists who sweep like no other

  • no fair this guy blew the whole competition!

everyone was like 'dude ill put into the video all the fast shit i can play'

but he actually was the one who created a song

  • He's like all the great 80's shredders rolled into one. This is amazing.

  • It doesn't matter if so and so can sweep faster, etc.... Musicianship isn't an athletic event. You should judge a composition on its own merits. When it comes down to it, it's all a subjective call anyway. Some folks are going to prefer A to B. That doesn't mean that the other opinions are any less valid. I'd rather listen to someone that sounds musical, to someone that is merely technical, anyday.

  • You're absolutely right...

Also where other people only see technicality, others may see true feeling.

    Yeah, it's completely subjective.

  • this dude is has both technicality and feeling in what he's doing. he's not

playing the guitar. he's playing with the guitar. those sweeps are both smooth and simply beautiful!

  • 1:02.. you know hes feeling it , check the air humps. >=D

  • are you kidding me! Listen to how melodic and great he is. Every not is presented amazingly. He is very talented and great at what he does. ED TO SHREDD!!!!!!!

  • He needs this nerd gimmick because if dressed/presented himself normally with that wah-engaged blues and trite (not mention akward and boring) sweep garbo he'd be considered average at best.

  • no he wouldn't average. he'd still be Ed

  • Nice Arpeggios Dude Very Nice!! but i can doed

  • this guy has the cleanest sweeps i have ever seen. hails to ed to shred

  • rusty cooley's sweeps are cleaner and 3 times as fast

  • but rusty cooley is the most robotic shredder out there

  • that doesn't make him bad though, everyone has their own way of showing emotion, you can tell rusty cooley enjoys playing guitar and he doesn't feel the need to make faces to show it so what if he plays fast? hes extremely good at it and that's what he should stick to. if he made a cd of him playing slowly all his fans would say he "sold out" it happens all to often, bands try to appease the mainstream and end up crashing and burning.

  • not this guy!

  • cooley can play slower melodic and emotional passages as well go look at a video called rusty cooley shred or something on here and he plays slow melodic stuff

  • i dont know... im pretty sure ed can do rusty cooley speed sweeps. and are you sure theyre cleaner? i havnt really seen any good quality rusty cooley videos...

  • yeah i mean there is "rusty cooley sweeping" , "rusty cooley at guitar one" and rusty cooley teaching riders lesson 1 2 & 3"
