if the eagles scored right there they would lead 17-6 so with 2:00 left dallas coulda scored a TD, recovered an onside kick, then scored again this was all Jon Runyan's idea he knew they could go into victory formation at the 1 so he was screaming "Go down, West!"
He kneeled @ the 1 because of Big-D's comeback on MNF the week prior vs the Bills. They came back 25-24; 2 possessions away from the lead with less than 30 sec. left.
I had Westy on my team and I still won this week..but I'm a Philly fan first. This was probably one of the smartest plays ever by a RB..Great Job Westbrook
Can some one explain to me how this is the right play? I'm sure he knows what he's doing, but I don't see how it helps his team more than a touch down would have.
@Petawawa8 The cowboys could theoretically score a TD on a kick return, onside kick, and score again to win the game (14 points as opposed to the 11 point lead the Eagles would have). If the cowboys have no timeouts left the Eagles have first down on the 1, they can just knee the ball 4 times and run out the 2 minutes. Not exciting, but far easier to run out the clock.
@Petawawa8 by downing it at the 1 yard line, the eagles keep the ball and can run down the clock instead of getting the touchdown and then giving it to the cowboys, which would allow them a chance to score and maybe win/tie the game.
A lot of people seem to not be understanding what happened. Taking a knee didn't let the Eagles run "more" time off the clock or run "an extra minute off." They ran ALL the time off. When Westbrook's knee touched the ground in this video the football game was for all intents and purposes over.
@cmann517 Why? So the Giants could've tried to rally with a two minute drill, then go for an onside kick? Granted, teh odds of that happening were slim, but just keeping the ball and running out the clock was slimmer.
Not enough people said the same explanation of what happened. Can anyone else post the same thing everyone has already said again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again?
@warrock913 he did that so the eagles could run more of the clock down unstead of the the cowboys getting a toucdown and having a chance at an onside kick
@dxjdog He stopped so they can just run out the clock. Doing this is a pretty much a 100% chance of winning. If he made the touchdown, the other team could of say got a touchdown then onside and made another touchdown to win the game. Its a very tiny chance, but he would rather have a 100% chance of winning the game then like 90%.
a TD would have stopped the clock and they are only up 4 points. Peyton Manning did the same exact thing last year if you don't remember. Team Players would rather run the clock down then add to their personal stats.
This is definitely not a dumb move. Notice how he just stopped, it wasnt an attempt to look fancy, the eagles wanted to run down to below the 2 minute warning and then score so that the cowboys would have a rough time coming back
Fantasy is fun but that's how it ruins the game of football...At some point you want a player to do good or bad even when you shouldn't. Big time eagles fan mad that DeMarco Murray is out for the season....Fuck (-_-)
well they would have been up prob 17 to 6 if he scored. a two possion lead. i do think it was smart but i still think with the score they would have been pretty safe
@GAUNTTJ A lot of teams have scored twice inside 2 minutes. Onside kicks are successful about 20% of the time. In fact, I remember a few years back that Seattle scored FOUR touchdowns in under 2 minutes. The only way to be sure the other team won't score is to make sure they don't touch the ball.
seriously? some kid that doesnt know anything about football outside of the john madden games probly posted this. i saw that play live. it was one of the most heads up plays ive seen in 25 years of watching football. damn kids these days. so caught up in the digital world they make asses outta themselves in the real one....!!
(Update 3/4/08) - So, after reading the comments. I just wanted to point out that Westbrook is one of my favorite players, and he did the right thing. I just uploaded the video to point out the fantasy implications (I lost my game as a result of this).
Wow, way to be an asshole and call this guy an ass when he was joking around.
I'm tired of fantasy football. Westbrook did the smart thing and sealed the win. Could the Cowboys have scored two TD's in a little over two minutes? Probably not. But this way, the Eagles kneel, run out the clock and get the win. Football is about winning, working as a team, and working hard; not about stats. Fantasy football takes people away from what football is all about.
@BingBongWasheeWashee Fantasy football is a game in which a group of people "draft" players for their "team." Points are earned when a player gains yards, scores touchdowns, and so on. So, the goal is to pick the players who will score the most, gain the most yards, stay the healthiest, and so on. Some people really dig it, others don't. I don't like it myself.
@BingBongWasheeWashee No, people either do it over the internet or organize together before the season. nfl.com has fantasy, I believe. Prizes for the winners, if I'm not mistaken. Anyways, no, it's something people in an office get together to do.
@BingBongWasheeWashee It is a regular season game. The reason this is bad for fantasy people is that Westbrook took a knee at the one instead of scoring, which cost his fantasy owners points. Fantasy football is based on real game stats, people don't play it at the games themselves.
@BingBongWasheeWashee I don't play fantasy football, and I think it's over for the most part. If you're interested, look it up. If you still like it, study it, then you can play next season. I'm not an expert, and I don't want to give you bad information.
You're out of your mind if he did this for pride. professional athletes don't do it for pride or their team, they do it for publicity and that paycheck. the cowboys only scored 6 points that game. Do you think they could've scored two touchdowns in under two minutes at that rate?
@Clintonomore So you're assuming with 2:09 seconds left with no timeouts it was a guarantee that the Cowboys would have scored AND got the 2 point conversion AND got the onside kick AND hit a field goal?
Show me when all that has happened. Looks like we know who the real dipshit is, dipshit.
@dodgers162003 Your the idiot buddy. Sorry but I am pretty sure JS6875 was just being sarcastic, but we all applaud your vast knowledge of football. Nice try...
Maurice Jones-Drew did the same thing a couple seasons ago. He even said sorry to his fantasy owners for it, but he wanted to make sure the Jaguars won that game with an easy field goal with no time left.
@lmaoitschad Did you not see Phillip Rivers fumble the snap against the Chiefs this season. Do You not remember Tony Romo fumbling the snap in the Conference championship a couple of years ago. Who ever think that fumbled snaps don't happen in the NFL are idiots. Westbrook was better off scoring to put his team up by two scores with two minutes to go. what Jones Drew did was more acceptable because if he had scored his team would have only held a 6 point lead with 1:24 to go on the clock.
I'm proud to say the 'worst moment" in that bullshit waste fantasy football came from an Eagle. All that shit is just a waste of time, be a fan of a team, not follow your team and 3 million other players so I can have bragging rights to my dumbass friends, who gives a shit? And that's without even adding players. Do you really think Westbrook or any other player gives a shit about your fantasy team, or would they rather win the game? Get a fucking life.
@cobbfilms22 who? Brian Westbrook? i mean he only put his team in the best possible situation to win the game. so as a matter of fact, it was pretty damn smart. but your a fucking idiot so how are you supposed to know that?
@ps2nolimits Bad play because if they fumble a snap on the next play and the Cowboys get the ball back then what. He should have scored and the Cowboys would have been down by two scores with on time on the clock. I cant believe people say that's a good play.
@MEEDdrama fumble the snap. they are in the NFL, not high school. im pretty sure they can snap the ball well. i cant believe you just said that " if they fumble the snap on the next play". your pretty stupid.
@justinsaneify obviously the odds of a fumbled snap on the next play is pretty fucking low buddy. even if there are a couple a game. ive seen games with no bobbled snaps. so that statement actually made no sense.
I hate it when that happens, or when you have a WR playing and the team is up by a lot so they just run the ball the rest of the game. It's agonizing for sure.
@GhostDistortion I remember that one. My (and DeSean Jackson's) debut season. Westbrook kneeling at the one. But I won that week anyway. DeSean Jackson chucking it away at the one, I got Westbrook to cover. This year, no such luck.
@HKISfreak1 I missed joe buck saying that Dallas was out of time outs the first time I saw this so that makes a little more sense but if it had been me, whether I was Westbrook or Reid I would sent him on in just to be safe
@woodyburns eh, i think it was safer just to kneel the clock out, it keeps dallas from getting the ball, and even though they had no more timeouts, they still had the 2 min warning and anything can happen in 2 min, timeouts or not.
I don't really understand why Andy Reid would have even called for him to do that. An 11 point lead is a helluva lot better than a 4 point lead. Not so much from a fantasy viewpoint as just a general football outlook. I'm not a coach, never played football on any level outside of gym class and a couple of 10 min games at the park, but they always show on tv coaches grinding it into players to score whenever they have the chance. I dunno what the final score was in this, but Dallas would have l
@woodyburns its not in this situation. because the eagles would still have the ball with 1 minute and a half to go, so they could kneel the ball and run out the clock. That gives them a much safer bet to win the game.
@woodyburns but dallas doesn't even have a shot with that 4 point deficit dummy. if he woulda scored dallas would have gotten the ball and a chance to win....
@doc2026 Bad play because if they fumble a snap on the next play and the Cowboys get the ball back then what. He should have scored and the Cowboys would have been down by two scores with on time on the clock. I cant believe people say that's a good play.
for all of u who dont think it would hav been possible for the cowboys to score 11 points in 2 minutes... remember that last year the eagles were able to score 28 points in 7:28. it is very possible

@cobbfilms22 who? Brian Westbrook? i mean he only put his team in the best possible situation to win the game. so as a matter of fact, it was pretty damn smart. but your a fucking idiot so how are you supposed to know that?
lmaoitschad 2 months ago
LMAO if you had him on your fantasy team and you were watching this live I bet you thought Westbrook was out to get you.

good play
ps2nolimits 2 months ago
@ps2nolimits Bad play because if they fumble a snap on the next play and the Cowboys get the ball back then what. He should have scored and the Cowboys would have been down by two scores with on time on the clock. I cant believe people say that's a good play.
MEEDdrama 2 months ago
@MEEDdrama the odds the snap will be fumbled are ridiculously low
ps2nolimits 2 months ago
@MEEDdrama fumble the snap. they are in the NFL, not high school. im pretty sure they can snap the ball well. i cant believe you just said that " if they fumble the snap on the next play". your pretty stupid.
lmaoitschad 2 months ago
@lmaoitschad obviously you dont watch football, bad snap count, or the center jumps theres always a couple bobbled snaps in a game
justinsaneify 2 months ago
@justinsaneify I think he's trolling you lol, no one is that stupid
pudgylumpkins 2 months ago
@justinsaneify obviously the odds of a fumbled snap on the next play is pretty fucking low buddy. even if there are a couple a game. ive seen games with no bobbled snaps. so that statement actually made no sense.

motha fucker jones-drew did the same shit
numetal1992lb 2 months ago
I hate it when that happens, or when you have a WR playing and the team is up by a lot so they just run the ball the rest of the game. It's agonizing for sure.
GhostDistortion 2 months ago
@GhostDistortion I remember that one. My (and DeSean Jackson's) debut season. Westbrook kneeling at the one. But I won that week anyway. DeSean Jackson chucking it away at the one, I got Westbrook to cover. This year, no such luck.

my cousin lost by 2 points that week IN THE PLAYOFFS and had westbrook. quite humorous if i do say so myself.

@HKISfreak1 I didn't hear joe buck say Dallas was out of timeouts but I still would have ran Westbrook in
woodyburns 2 months ago
@HKISfreak1 I missed joe buck saying that Dallas was out of time outs the first time I saw this so that makes a little more sense but if it had been me, whether I was Westbrook or Reid I would sent him on in just to be safe
woodyburns 2 months ago
@woodyburns eh, i think it was safer just to kneel the clock out, it keeps dallas from getting the ball, and even though they had no more timeouts, they still had the 2 min warning and anything can happen in 2 min, timeouts or not.
HKISfreak1 2 months ago
I don't really understand why Andy Reid would have even called for him to do that. An 11 point lead is a helluva lot better than a 4 point lead. Not so much from a fantasy viewpoint as just a general football outlook. I'm not a coach, never played football on any level outside of gym class and a couple of 10 min games at the park, but they always show on tv coaches grinding it into players to score whenever they have the chance. I dunno what the final score was in this, but Dallas would have l
woodyburns 2 months ago
@woodyburns its not in this situation. because the eagles would still have the ball with 1 minute and a half to go, so they could kneel the ball and run out the clock. That gives them a much safer bet to win the game.
HKISfreak1 2 months ago
@woodyburns but dallas doesn't even have a shot with that 4 point deficit dummy. if he woulda scored dallas would have gotten the ball and a chance to win....
papapapenis 2 months ago
He wasnt playing 4 his fantasy owners or his own glory he was playing to win

DanTheMan13132929 2 months ago
for all of u who dont think it would hav been possible for the cowboys to score 11 points in 2 minutes... remember that last year the eagles were able to score 28 points in 7:28. it is very possible

@LaxDude45MC Very possible? Shut the fuck up. Say that to a statistician and watch them laugh in your face, jackass.
UntilWeMeetAgainVic 2 months ago
@LaxDude45MC 28 points in 7 min is alot easier than 11 in 2 w/ no time outs
megamante360 2 months ago
@megamante360 its still possible, so kneeling the ball is still the best decision
