Because I believe he was adding to his previous comment. By "replying" to oneself the comment total on a video does not go up. This way, I believe, it avoids needless extra comments for the uploader to go through when it's all supposed to be is two separate comments that are supposed to be one.

Also, other people do it as well. Once or twice I've done it myself to correct something I stated, but to make sure it wasn't counted as another comment all together.

Although, everyone loves comments. :P
