Very nice setup. I was wondering what you think of a separates system like the modest and moderatley priced offerings from Rotel when compared to the price point of the Denon reciever? Ive always loved Denon and I am considering a Denon to replace my aging Yamaha RX-V3300 reciever. Nothing against Yamaha as it has served my needs well over the past 8 or 9 years. I ask because I have always had a separates setup in the back of my mind and Rotel is within budget. Also because I heard good things.
@Stryk3r1000 I was too considering Rotel while back. I think its well priced system. I did hear it (model 1572) in action and it did sound good. I do have to say that in my opinion model 1552 sounded better. They had it running with B&W speakers. I think because 1552 is AB amp and 1572 is class D. If I had to pay $6000 for 5308 with tax... it would never happen. I paid $3000. I think you can get better sounding system for $6000. Just keep in mind 5308 has $2000 in video processing. Try Marantz.
@myphotopick Thanks for the input. My upgrade path would likely be to purchase a nice amp by Rotel and use my current reciever as the pre/processor then, at some point later down the line upgrade to the latest gen processor or a nice used one. I figure a nice amp can be purchased first since technology with those is less prone to new fads and fashion. I will have to decided when the time comes as to whether i go with a digital or traditional AB amp. Thanks again for the insight.
Thank you, I had no idea the watts would be split. I personally cannot stand wimpy watts. I would take advantage of the PRE-OUTS and utilize my AMPS t keep the watts to my usual 400 Watts. Then we're taking power and sound quality. I'm surrounded by Killer Massive custom speakers that are to die for. Just need the Denon to replace my older Sony crap surround. Not really crap but no comparison to the denon.
No, you are wrong. Side surround could be set up as left a and b for long rooms which would make 9 channels. Since it has only 7 surround power is split to 75 per surround speakers .
You stated in your review that if you use the side surround channels along with the rear surrounds that you split the wattage at 75 watts per speaker. This is not true. The 5308 has 7 channels rated at 150 watts per speaker. Also, the upgrade has been announced and will be available in october of 2001. The new upgrade will provide for 3D pass through, Audyssey DSX, Dolby PLllZ and Audyssey Multi EQ XT32. The cost for the upgrade is going to be around $1100.
