  • Pause it at 0.23 you can see a bit of swarf hitting the camera haha.

  • hat sich aber ziemlich gequält angehört ^^

oder kam das vom mikro ?

  • My Mitchell would do that. It was made in Keighley, Yorkshire, the same town where DS&G lathes were made. DS&G lathes are amazing, very very expensive when new.

A friend assures me that when he worked at Jack Holman-Compair they had a DS&G that could turn to a tenth of a thousandth of an inch. Ten times more accurate than most lathes. Job was making pistons for rock drills. All gone now and allegedly many of the machines were cut up for scrap.

  • I got one at home...!!!

  • I used to run a 25x130 dean smith grace lathe

they are really good machines. the part looks like 4140, or some kind of hard steel im guessing he doing about 375 sfm finish pass for a good finish I wouldint run it any different, and only a butcher would take 1" cuts

  • I would like to see how you cut that, I think a standard parting tool long enough to make it through may have a little bit of flex...

  • how long would it take to machine something this big?

  • What's the material and size they are turning here?

  • I used to run turnings that large, All the machines I ran that big are in Asia now.

  • your right they have all our good stuff

  • @rick6393 Really ? Why ?

  • what use for

  • horrible chips

  • It,s... Epic

  • thats huge ._.

  • Yeah, You're right but if you want to see n even BIGGER lathe look the movie called 'Big Engine Lathe 3 ( 8000 LB Stub Shaft )'

  • linda makina ....como me gustaria tener una de esas

  • bad chip control!

  • why?

  • you need 6's and 9's not strings

  • What you know about that?

    It is a finishing pass.

  • because?

  • i believe thats a perfect cut, however when they break it ruptures the surface of the metal rather than consistently "shaving" the metal off

  • put that engine into a train

  • Yes years ago I ran a Dean Smith & Grace and you are right they are great Lathe

  • you got some pretty cool videos on mate, still think british machines are better tho, ever used a dean smith & grace lathe they r the rolls royce in my humble opinion. mind you ive never been on any US machines tho!

  • that musta been a pain to align in the chuck

    i know wat its like

  • you call that a cut? i can take 1.000 with my monarch

  • victimofwv

"you call that a cut? i can take 1.000 with my monarch"

Maybe he did not need to take a 1.0 inch cut.

  • Or the material is too hard 'strong' for the tool then.

  • "i can take 1.000 with my monarch" Your penis is 1.000" in length, but like your previous statement, nobody gives a shit.

  • @victimofwv 1.000 what? mm? In aluminium? Wow, that's some machine. *sigh*

  • wow...

  • dam thats big ,i bet youll never see one on ebay
