Willie 'The Lion' had nothing to do with the altoist Willie Smith who played for 'Lunceford. The alto-player Smith was one of the greatest Swing saxophonists ever. He played for Billy May, Duke Ellington (early fifties, as a replacement for J. Hodges), and Harry James. His recorded jam sessions for Norman Granz, in which he often outplayed colleagues like Benny Carter and Charlie Parker, are famous.
Because Jimmy and his band appeared in the movie this song came from, it was only fitting he recorded it shortly after its theatrical release, on December 22, 1941. Vocal by Willie Smith.
Just got a large group of 78s from a guy who bought them in the 30s-50s and, unlike so many folks, held on to them over the decades instead of throwing them out. There were 30 or so Jimmie Lunceford records, mostly older DECCAs, and 'Life Is Fine' was among them. I'll have it posted sometime this week. Look for it. CDB
Never have been able to find a decent copy of this one - I've gone through 3 (donated 2 to a pair of charity auctions) and the copy I have at present is in about the same shape as this one, maybe a bit worse.
Thumbs up if the Silent Hunter 3 Gramophone brought you here...

@fromthesidelines Is this Willie Smith the same as the jazz pianist Willie "The Lion" Smith, and if so, was he playing piano for Lunceford?
