Well hell yeah this camera is awesome, but they made improvements on the new models. This includes increased clearer video capture in lowlight situations which they call Super LoLux, and bluetooth capability. These features are included in the GZ-HM550 and higher models. So I guess it just depends how much you want to pay, this camera that I have is probably hella cheap now.
i cant figure out how to download to my computer without using the softwear it comes with and yet when i do that the slow mos are choppy and the quality is terrible
Just press back up on the camera when you plug it in using the USB cable, then find go to your pc's videos and find the folder that says Everio MediaBrowser HD open it, open HDD Cam folder, then find your video you want to upload and download that raw MTS. video to youtube
when i open the HDD cam folder if comes up with another folder called like 133396078147916 and then another one like that then in that folder only one MTS file that my comp dosn't let me use in my editing system
I use Adobe Premiere Elements 7.0. To upload you don't need any software, because you can just download the raw file. But if you are looking to edit the video, such add effects or titles, then you are going to have to purchase a software like I did.
Please help me. I got one of these for christmas. I know how to convert the file. and it looks good in the hd everio media browser but, its all jumpy wheni view it. and i tried a direct upload to youtube and it looked like crap. how do i get the quality i see on the camera into an editing program?
Can the camera record with the LCD shut?

no it can't everything is pretty much automated, the camera turns off when it is shut

well if your going to edit the video thats another story. You need a better editing system, such as Adobe premiere or maybe pinnacle studio
