  • because Im passing through a very bad time

    just rock...

    yeah!!!

  • I was never into this song although Awake is one of my favorite DT albums. Was tripping pretty hard just trying to keep my mind together laying in my dead in the dark. Was just listening to the whole awake album and this song came up...fucking beautiful. Listened to it a couple times in a row to keep the mood.

And I'll smile and I'll learn to pretend

And I'll never be open again

And I'll have no more dreams to defend

And I'll never be open again

  • Yeah reminds me when i was 15. I too had severe depression then.

  • Such a beautiful song. When i hear it i think about people who have passed away that i was close to. GOD i love this song.

  • Awesome Song - Great Video - Very creative.

  • I can truly relate to this song. It brings tears to my eyes.

  • Ahhh, I wonder what would have been of DREAM THEATER if KEVIN MOORE was still in the band!!!

    Five fire ball stars******. Amazing!!!

  • Kevin Moore FTW!

  • this clip is awesome. it fits completely with the music (perhaps not the lyrics) but still epic

  • possibly the best film ever

"It can only be attributable to human error. This sort of thing has cropped up before, and it has always been due to human error."

  • The clip you made goes well with the song...bravo!

  • AMAZING

  • Classic Kevin Moore. He's definitely my favourite of the Keyboardists... but only by a little because Derek and Jordan are all amazing themselves. But there just is something about Kevin that you just can't recapture with another Keyboardist. He's unique, one of a kind.

  • There's no one to take my blame

    if they wanted to

There's nothing to keep me sane

and it's all the same to you

There's nowhere to set my aim

    so I'm everywhere

    Never come near me again

do you really think I need you?

  • lmao. Pretty good except for the fact that the song has NOTHING TO DO WITH SPACE.

Its about how Kevin Moore "fell in love" with a model in a magazine, modeling a piece of clothing called (wait for it) A Space-Dye Vest....

  • he later explained that he said fell in love metaphoricly, and that he just stared at the model and developed strong feeling that faded in some seconds,a result of his relationship ending and him having more to give...

  • on my personal point of view; with respect to the fact of the clothes and magazine;

it is about love from one side; :-(

    it is great song

  • isnt this from that trippy/wierd movie space odessy 2001 or something like that?

  • If any of you didn't know.... it's about a man who falls in love with a woman in a magazine =]

  • stupenda :)

  • Brilliant idea,my favorite film with my favorite song:) cheers;)

  • Makes me cry...

  • it is not music! it's something more

  • wow how did u get the sun to shine when it eases in and out of view? great video

  • awesome

  • I love it

  • for me it's ok, but in some parts the video has to be more syncronised with the theme. You're putting only images of 2001 and it's cool (because that film captures a similiar feeling, dark and deep), but don't be so limitated. Go further, take it to another level (more deep, and mechanical). Keep working on sync.

PD: For the main people that post comments here: this video is suppossed to be commented about the video, not about the song either kevin moore or jordan.

  • awesome video! i love this song

  • Labrie sounds amazing in this song, deep voice matches him very good.

  • I **love** it when the guitar comes in at 2:40. The music gets heavy, but still retains it's sadness and emotion. That's hard to do in a song.

  • this my favorite dream theater song

  • damn, it's amazing, i loved it so much. (;

  • this song is hella poignant!

  • love this song

am trying to do it live with my group

one of the greatest songs ever

    love it!!!!

  • s'up raphe, I'll get working on it ;)

  • My absolute favorite Dream Theater song... amazing.

  • Great song. It has never been performed live though! Kevin Moore was replaced on keyboards after this album. When the other members are asked about performing it they say it is "Kevin's song". Jordan Ruddess says he is ready to perform it though. Maybe they will some day. Can't wait for the new Dream Theater album coming out in June!! Studio album #11, Black Clouds and Silver Linings!!!

  • studio album 10 though ;)

  • Technically, ACoS is classified as an EP, so it will be their 10th.

  • When I listen to this song, I imagine myself waking up half dead in a barren wasteland

staring into the silver sky lit by thousands of stars and a giant moon. Then I suddenly come face to face with a translucent image of the girl once loved, who reminds me of all my suffering and the pain of separation.

At the same time it gives me a reason to grow stronger. Omg every Dream Theater song shows me various images in my head, sometimes hard to comprehend. thats why I love their music :D

  • Shit.

    Deep, man.

  • i can do this song on the piano its pretty chill but i give credit to my dad he taught it to me and he can do it much better than me

  • the new Yes !!

all you people that havn't heard of 'Yes', check them out !!

  • Pretty good song, not my favorite, not my least favorite

  • fantastical song. this comment doesn't even do it justice.

  • One of my favourite songs. The point at around 4:33 where the long power chord preludes the build up to the ending is damn powerful. Video doesn't do it for me though. Song, IMHO, is about someone (Kevin) building emotional walls and losing their highs and lows. Video captures the lonliness, but not that.

  • I'm not too sure what the lyrics are about, but I like 'em :)

  • It's about Kevin Moore who saw a girl on an advertisement magazine. Probably includes a lot of other things though >.> Space-Dye Vest was the product.

  • 2001: A Space Odyssey.....amazing film, amazing song...

  • great, from where are the video captures?

  • so ein genialer song- und dann so ein grottiges video dazu, ohne jede aussage, ohne jeden zusammenhang...

    enttäuschend

  • This is an amazing song>!

  • and about the video i only fits the video and the music without any video editing

  • but this video i think will have no more future...when Dream theather's band or major will see this video i think they will close this vid....i hope this brilliant idea will not die for commercial interests...we all love this song .....this is my song,is a part of my life, is the pain of my life....dedicated to my mother...i will see you in another life in another way

  • The spoken words are from the book "A Room With a View".... How weird.

  • what do u mean u made this video?

i remember this video its from 2001 space odyssey the most boring part of the movie LOL!

the vid fits the song really well btw! good job

  • u remember well...i think kubrik's ideas and dream theater progressive songs fits so incredibly. i did it in about 5mins and my mind was entering in a progressive mind state like kubrik ......this is progressive

  • Looove this song!

  • the video reminds me unreal tournament

  • the day when Dream Theater play this song live I can die in peace...I know it wont happen though

  • it a tribute to kevin moore, hopefully the next DT DVD will include this song, with jordan Rudess touch it would be more amazing emotionly

  • This video had to be official DT video for that song!!!

  • Dude.. video 10+ ! Song is awesome... I love Dream Theater so much!

  • Not bad but the whole video is just ripped of the space odyssey so how can you "imagine" something that is already made... And How exactly did you "make" this? Thumbs up for theater space dye vest. Thumbs up for choosing the footage. SERIOUSLY thumbs down for ripping off Kubrick...

  • i did this video in about 5minuts serously....it was so easy but...when i was seeing the movie i heard this song ;) i don't want to be a good director...i only love this song

  • As I said... thumbs up for choosing the footage...

  • I first heard this song a couple of years ago and LOVED it. Then somehow I lost the song and ever since then I kept searching and searching. I forgot the lyrics and even forgot the fact that it's by DREAM THEATRE.

FINALLY.....after all these time I found it at 5:46 AM! I am gonna mark this date on my calander hahaha

  • I am the 100,000th viewer!

    yay!

  • i'm coming!

  • really sad and beautiful song! awesome vid!

  • gracia kevin.....maestro..

  • mitici

  • great work!

    real prog job!;D

  • Excellent work, dude.

The video really gets me going

  • My absolute favourite.

i love all the sources they pulled the lyrics from..

    amazing.

  • This song is a lot more than just a woman. It starts that way. but then it goes much deeper than that.

  • awesome dream theater song

  • wow i love song.

  • this is sick, DT without cheesy vocals for once

  • la voz de kevin moore es una bajona al lao de la labrie ave o no ave? canio! xD

  • es la voz de Labrie.

  • damn.. kevin moore's voice is so better than labrie's..

  • kevin dont sing in this one, he sing in the demo version

  • o'rly? pff i know dude but i prefer his voice.. i mean labrie's voice sometimes sucks..mostly at lives.. though he did great performance in thi song..

  • Can someone explain me the story of this song?

BTW, the best dream theater song ever, I'm just not sure about what it means.

  • Kevin Moore had broken up recently and was still bitter and lost. He was reading some fashion magazine and "fell in love" with a girl who was wearing piece of clothing named "Space-Dye Vest"... And thought that was insane. And he wrote a song about those feelings and so.

I think Wikipedia has a good article about it, in case you want to know more.

  • I wonder if there's a third person involved, judging by the pronoun "he" Kevin included in his lyrics.

  • I don't know if you should treat the quotations like actual lyrics. You know, they've been picked from TV shows.

It's ofc possible though that the ex started seeing other guy or something.

  • omg!! thnx for recomend it!

DT is music.. i am music xD

  • one name...

    KEVIN MOORE

  • unfortunately.. this song is unbareable for me to listen to for personal reasons..

i'm not fond of all you did with the movie..

i don't see space as anything more than a metaphore for neverending mystery..

you should have used less space and more of what it's really about..

but it's ok done.. though it seems like a whole lot of it isn't your doing, but scenes taken from other places.. the cutting in it i respect though.

if i have to rate this for what you did with the video id give a 3..

  • Lovely and bueatiful and just totally awesome anyone know where i can get the music for the keyboard part at all? my and a couple of mates anna play this for a school concert

  • oh my god!!! it's a beautiful song!!! amazing!!! DT forever!!! i love this song!!!

  • great job on the video amazing song too one of the saddest songs I know very effective emotionally

  • LaBrie, Petrucci, Portnoy, Myung and Moore.

    Period.

  • Im sorry mr Rudess but kevin has the flavor!

  • kevin moore is a great keyboardist but i think jordan rudess is more rocking. but with kevin moore, most of the songs are memorable. like this song. very sweet and lonelt but i love it :D GOOD MOVIE MAN

  • Kevin Moore was amazing for this band. It's too bad that he was already out of the band when this album was released.

  • one of the most amazing songs i have ever heard in my entire life.

how could i have missed this.

  • whats this i hear about this song having quotes from E.M Forster's Book - 'A Room with a View'

  • Ah, Space Dye Vest... A beautiful relic of the past left behind by Kevin Moore before he departed Dream Theater.

This song doesn't sound anything like DT's other stuff... but it just goes to show that there's a certain style that only Kevin Moore can make. Rudess is the best in skill, I think, but Kevin Moore certainly has something special about him.

I want to find Chroma Key, but I can't find it anywhere... :(

  • I liked the "A Space Odyssey 2001" theme.

  • this song sends shivers to my spine

  • since every one else is ranting on about DT's newest album and what not, im gonna say cool video, and what i imagine when i hear this song is totally different. buts that the point right?

  • this is the difference between moore and the followers... he's a real musician!

  • awesome song, first time i hear them and this song is just perfect

  • haunting lyrics "Ill smile and Ill learn to pretend and I can never be open again"

  • beautiful.

  • really miss kevin moore's spoken word samples but he is an idiot for leaving such a majestic bad. but am not complaining coz i like rudess's works more

  • my love for this song is indescribable

  • This is personally my favorite DT song, aside from panic attack. (that song is Fcking hard on rock band 2).

  • "Rock Band" and "Dream Theater" aren´t made to fit in the same sentence, dude.

  • One of the best songs ever!

  • Kubrick's masterpiece combined with DT's music....AWESOME!

  • Amazing song.

  • u a plagiarizing chode

    this isn't your own video

    liar

    But the music is good

  • i believe this is their best song..

  • Nop, ONE of their best but not the best :).

  • the day they play this live is the day i can die peacefully!

  • Amazing video, congratulations, one of the few videos I rate with a 5-Star. Good work bro!

  • ever notice that with any other video there's a bunch of people arguing in the comments? but when it comes to dream theater,...everyone just kinda praises them and everyone else tends to agree...i love it. DT rules....this video is gorgeous

  • Screw you!!!

    Just kidding :P

...I do wish that such "harmony" could also exist outside of a Youtube video though...

  • 2 of my favorite things in one. . . 2001 and dream theater

  • umm . . . dunno what you mean by 2001. This song was released in 94. But 2001 is cool too I guess.. :)

  • i guess you have never seen "2001: A space odyssey" which the video part is from.

  • So atmospheric and dark. Moore's solo work must be very interesting. Anyone listened to his albums outside Dream Theater ?

  • Absolutely Great!!

  • wonderful video

  • God.. How I'd wish that Dream Theater still composed music like this.

  • It's cuz Kevin Moore left Dream Theater; I aint saying they're worse off now, but the style does change with the changing of artists, that's all!

  • It's cuz Kevin Moore left Dream Theater; I aint saying they're worse off now, but the style does change with the changing of artists, that's all!

  • yes but I also like to think of a band as an entity of itself, which like the human entity has the ability to change and morph over time. I mean how boring would it be if they made 26 albums of stuff that all sounded the same and they never evolved? Some people dig their old stuff, some people prefer their newer stuff, and some, like me, enjoy all of it because it's all so damn awesome. :D

  • I agree, friend. The case with me is, I liked their heavier stuff from Train of Thought, but here I am listening to their calmer, older works!

  • So so true. Whilst Images and Words I believe to be the pinnacle of music, they have developed, and have produced masterpieces spanning twenty years. I must say I was slightly disappointed by Systematic Chaos, but I have every faith in them.

  • Systematic chaos was slightly disapointing, although forsaken and dark eternal night were pretty good. Still the rest seemed to me like they were trying to be a bit more metallicaesque, and I'll never understand why a band that is so much better than metallica would want to be metallica.

Their next album I forsee being much better as Labrie is SLOWLY beginning to get his vocal prowess back. Still no where near 94 or earlier, but closer than he was in 02.

  • Yes, the fact that Dream Theater are such big fans amazes me, becuase they are so much more innovative and skilled. I think that SC was very poor lyrically, as there was no depth or beauty like there usually is. But every band has a blip, and if that's their's, then things are looking good. There were a few gems - Repentance was my favourite. Plus, LaBrie IS getting there. He's done so well, he's done everyone proud, and whilst from 92 to 94 he was the best he'll ever be, he'll get back.

  • If you ask me, his best years were more like 89 through 95. Change of seasons, with the exception of the title track, was recorded live if I recall, and that was in 95. He didn't do too bad on that one if you ask me.

He's had some good performances since then too. 2000 wasn't too bad for him.

I'm just waiting for his tone to come back. I don't care about his range, but his old tone, from the piercing pure tones to the grittier stuff. Pull me under just isn't the same without the grit.

  • Yes, his best years were probably 89 to 95. I personally think that in the studio he always delivers; because they take recording at a speed he's comfortable with. His performance live is much less consistant, but that's an inevitable problem after what he's faced. I think his take on Six Degrees Of Inner Turbulance was outstanding, and as you say, it's the tone that makes him stand out. The fact that he has endless shades makes him for me, the greatest vocalist today.
