Most framers usually build the walls on the ground, then tip them up and secure it with a strong back, you must have a lot of time or enjoy toe-nailing :)
yeah I didnt understand that either I'm no construction worker well actually I am but only concrete but in building trades we always built the full length wall first one side at a time
Only on the internet do you find such passion regarding how you nail a stud into a plate.
The only thing they did was to increase the amount of work required to put up a wall. Once the siding is on, the toenails will be just as sufficient given that there is no tension pulling the plates apart, rather axial loading keeping them together from the weight of the structure.
Personally, I hate to toenail, but it's not my cabin, so who cares. I liked the time lapse. Is there an update?
We took the wall down because the 2x4s we grabbed were the wrong length. We were in a rush to beat the snow that was coming that night. We pre cut the walls.
OH REALLY? give us you BS excuse for why you built it a stick at the time instead of laying it out on the deck and raising it in one piece. this would have been easy for TWO people to do, faster and more accurate and STRONGER to boot.
people like you can't STAND to admit you didn't know WTF you were doing and accept critisizm. if you wonder WHY i care.... it's to save maybe ONE person ( who also doesn't know WTF they are doing ) seeking advice from your video from making the same mistakes because no one contested what you did as STUPID!
why? is it that people like you can't say "we didn't know WTF we were doing, we had zero experience and we were struggling . and thanks for pointing out HOW-TO do it CORRECTLY!
a single carpenter with a helper could build these four walls in an EASY days work. i watched it a few times. am i seeing it right? did they build the first wall and the TAKE IT DOWN and built it again? or was that some sort of VIDEO effect?
Never saw anyone build walls that way...makes no sense. Build them on the deck! There has to be a reason it was done this way...couldn't lift the walls?
another con artist!! you level the deck DUHHHH! no matter if the grounds level. and the way they did it took at least FOUR TIMES longer to do. so your authoratative sounding statement is BS!
they did it that way because no one there knew the proper way to do it. children playing in the forest. I, or any carpenter, could have built and raised that wall SINGLE HANDEDLY in approx. ONE HOUR with hand tools. less with airguns and power saws.

typical logic for your generation.thats why we're so fucked up now. my generation would think it was more important to get it done CORRECTLY! so that OTHERS may enjoy the benefits of our labors NOT JUST US. so instead of your labors building the cabin and filming it being a advance for everyone in the future it was just a cutsie pie childish endeavor to satisfy your EGO.
Your hostility is unnecessary. Building a structure that endures the ages is always important; no one is arguing the point. Had you bothered to read the EXPLANATION about WHY it was done incorrectly however, you might have a clue. As for your generation...I find it most ironic that you boast of what those from your era would have done, yet you speak without forethought as thought you're a 17 year old with too much testosterone churning inside and no way to satisfy the pain. Tsk, tsk.

typical again. you miss the point entirely. no one expects a wooden SHACK to endure the ages. I'll try and explain again but i doubt it will make any difference to a CLOSED MINDED person like you. what i was intimating was that if you had done it correctly, not only would you have benefited directly but OTHERS could have LEARNED how to do it correctly also. people like you are the curse of the internet. you proliferate mediocrity. DUMBED DOWN PUNK!
thats exactly what people like you resort to when confronted with unarguable fact ( i am not the only one who pointed out you did it stupidly ) NAME CALLING.
This is an intelligent video. Damn I just watched some fool walking around with a camera like some mad person pointing it everywhere and muttering some crap. Now this is a cool video.
Haha.. I love Gould's singing. Love the building project too! Beautiful location.

LOL built one wall twice. Could've built your walls in half the time by laying them out on the floor. Obviously first timers...

Also, you have to admit, that the construction of one stick at a time looks much more cool on time lapse. Yes, I give 5 stars.
