I've played, and sent links to this song to every member of my family, None of them seem to get the clue that I'm playing it to them because it represents precisely how I'm feeling at the moment...
Aside from that, Justin puts his soul out front every time he plays. A tortured soul perhaps, but a fucking brave man too...
can someone please transcribe these chords? Ive tried to tab this song twice but i just cant find the tuning or the right chords. Any help would be great!
The tuning is standard. He has the capo on the 5th fret....but he often plays with the capo at 4. And aside from that, the chords he's mostly using are G and C and F. With an occasional diminished chord. Transcribing it would be kinda weird because it's not musically complex. The complexity comes from the strum. I learned it by watching this video. Try watching him perform it like 100x. You'll get it....although you may tire of the song at that point.
this version of this song is awesome, but Harlem River Blues doesn't hold a candle to any album that came before it. I feel the emotion is dulled by the full band sound. This man can do so much with a guitar, capo and his voice. Nonetheless, we mustn't light the torches and arm with pitchforks just yet, he's only just getting his footing in this bright of a spotlight..
nobody out there that i know of doing this well at what they do. love it. all of it. don't feel like i missed out soo much with dylan and woody when i'm alive now and get to listen to justin. this must've been what it felt like to stumble across one of those guess back then. so glad your here justin.
This song is so evocative of his exhaustion and sadness of being on the road. I pray that he heals and gets back his vigor and love of life while he takes some time off. We love you Justin!!
@Nigganechi Good point. Except when he's feeling low about life, he writes a beautiful song. And when you're feeling low, you whine on the internet. Oh what a difference talent makes.
Not to mention that he grew up poor with an absent, drug addicted dad. People assume JTE had all the advantages as Steve's son, but Steve didn't make it until Justin was about 5, and within a few years Steve had blown his career and was homeless. He recovered, but damage done.
That said, I do think JTE needs to take responsibility for his own actions at this point, especially with regard to booze and drugs. I read his twitter feed occasionally, and he does like to whine.
Gonna see him open for Tom Snider at the Ryman in June, can't wait.

@1977mv Yeah, he must have a real hard life compared to us normal workin' folk.

Just an excellent film of my fave "artiste" of the last 3 years. A full hour documentary
would be even better.
