  • nice vid!!! cool bass riff...

  • Ben Shepherd has his bass slung lower than this guy...

  • Comment removed

  • that kit sounds like a tin of beans

  • Actually the bass player should play the time and the drummer should 'color' it. And if you're drummer is playing to a click then props to him for making sure the band stays put. If the others can't stay with him then kick THEM out.

  • ex helmet bass player!

  • Idgaf about all the guys talkin mess, but these were some good tips.

  • wooww that's really blows

  • Are you kidding me? This shit is not metal. This fag needs to lose a pick.

  • @HrapovikPlush suck a dick man, this is the best bass you'll hear since Maiden. Maybe some old BadBrains ... seriously?

  • @Dioji666 Are you kidding me? Doesn't even sound metal. plus the guy plays with a pick. What a loser.

  • @HrapovikPlush You're a fucking tool. Many of the greats play with a pick. You don't know shit about music.

  • @beansandcornbread I don't know shit about music? Don't jump to conclusion so fast, you moron. Fingerstyle player have always been more talented and thats a fact. You are retarded.

  • @HrapovikPlush Jump to conclusions? Your dumb comment about playing with a pick was all I needed to know. It's a different sound. That's all.

  • @HrapovikPlush

lol, you are fucking kidding me right?

Playing with your fingers isn't what makes you a good bassist. Its the style you play or basically how you play all together. Fingers or Pick, it doesn't matter as long as it sounds good. So if you care so much about the pick vs finger-style thing, you are limiting your creative abilities and will never progress.

  • @gm3dgames I dont want to start a fight but i think for Bluesy jazz= Finger style. for that crisp spund rather than the plasticy slice...but for metal then it should be for a pick

  • @raifyj

No, i agree completely, was just making a point that fingers vs pick is absolutely stupid :)

  • @gm3dgames Yes, playing with your fingers inherently makes you a better bass player. It requires more talent to play with your fingers. Playing with a pick is a crutch, PERIOD. You don't know what you're talking about. I'd imagine you've never played with a band. Loser.

  • @SpiritOfDetroit You obviously are a child. No adult could be this stupid. It's a different style that produces different sounds. One day when you grow up you will realize how moronic you sound.

  • @beansandcornbread You obviously aren't a musician, or worse, think that you are a musician. You have proven you don't know anything about bass playing. Only a convert guitar player would play bass with a pick. Bass is supposed to be played with your fingers, period. Only a talentless hack would use a pick.

  • @gm3dgames No, you are limiting your ability on bass by playing with a pick. You have no clue what you are talking about.

  • @SpiritOfDetroit

how so? im not saying only play with a pick, im saying give both a chance... you obviously need to get a better education...

  • @beansandcornbread You're a fucking idiot. Only talentless bass players play with pick. It takes TRUE TALENT to play with your fingers. Dumbass.

  • @beansandcornbread No greats play with a pick. Truly "great" bass players play with their fingers.

  • @SpiritOfDetroit

well idiot, I DO play with a band and i DO know what i am talking about. Being more open to more techniques is what makes you a good musician and in this case a great bassist. Finger picking can be hard for most people AT THE START. Finger picking is really nothing special, it didn't start on the electric bass in the first place anyway. If you want to be a serious musician instead of a pathetic troll of youtube then try be more creative and learn that its not all in the fingers

  • @beansandcornbread You don't know shit about shit. No greats play with a pick. The fundamental block of bass playing is PLAYING WITH YOUR FINGERS, PERIOD.

  • @SpiritOfDetroit Incorrect. You need to check history. It's not on your side. Playing with your fingers is just one way of going about it.

  • @SpiritOfDetroit John Deacon. Bobby Vega. Paul McCartney. Roger Waters. John Paul Jones. Do I really need to continue? I am predominantly a pizzicatto player, but a pick is just fine. You are seriously misinformed.

  • hes right this pretty much sucks :P def not the best out there lol

  • hey well im sure you dont even play your some lard ass who says he can

  • @HrapovikPlush

to the guy who said he needs to lose the pick, he's in HEMLET, and Page Hamilton requires his bass players to use picks, just ask previous bassist Frank Bello (who plays with his fingers in Anthrax).

  • @FirebirdCamaro1220 In this case, Page Hamilton is a fucking idiot.

  • Thats a really nice bass!

  • That is definitely one of the most beautiful basses I've ever seen

and I'm familiar with Alembics, Jerzys, and all that, but still. it's just...so classy.

  • love it thanks, keep em coming.

  • three words I DON'T CARE

  • The bass ought to be a little louder in these examples. The drums really drown him out.

  • It is metal though....so sad...

  • ='[

  • go fuck urself...metal is most difficult music to play...and if u dont like it then go fuck urself and stop commenting on metal stuff

  • Not for bass... Don't get me wrong bro I love bass and metal but the bass in metal often gets mixed out. Ask most metal musicians it's just the fact of the thing. I wish metal was more friendly to bassists but it's not...

  • Necrophagist, Cannibal Corpse, Black Sabbath, Heaven and Hell, Iron Maiden, Death. Just a few metal bands I can think of with badass bass levels.

  • Yes there are good metal bassists but my point is that there aren't many. Truly the list you gave is very short if you consider the huge majority of metal bands that don't have great bassists. And don't Black Sabbath and Heaven Hell both have Geezer Butler on bass?

  • Yes, but two bands and different styles throughout. Geezer played differently on the later BS albums of the 80's and into the 90's.

We also have to ask what constitutes a great bassist in this question. One that holds the bottom end well and can deliver vox like Tom Araya, or even Petere Steele? Or are we talking about guys that are skilled and rarely labeled "virtuosos" at their instrument? Seems like guitarists have that word exclusively now that I think of it.

  • I think what constitutes a good bassist in most any genre is the ability to fill out a song and make it sound less tinny. Which most bassists easy can do with EQ. Second is to be able to add extra melodies and sounds through development of theory/ear training and use of techniques. Sadly my point is that the majority of bassists in metal get mixed out because the guitars have allot of bass in there EQ mixing the bassist out and not giving them much playing room.

  • Oh definitely. I've got a better ear for bass now than I did before I began playing the instrument. Before I didn't really even pay attention. It was like my ears had the treble all the way up, all the time. Constant low-fi black metal perhaps? Haha. Even in the bands with mentionable bassists, metal wise, they can sometimes be hard to discern other than that "feel" that's there.

  • I have been playing guitar for 4 years and i ordered a bass cause i wanted to try it i hope its preety sweet

  • Dude what you play on guitar will be wierd for bass, ul be so tired after like 30 seconds cause the neck is so long lol.

  • I started out with guitar but I switched to Bass 2 years ago, Bass is so much easyer and more fun than guitar.

  • whats the drummers shirt there? mexican flag with budapest above it?? Go budapest magyarok!

  • hahahahaha whts up with these percents

  • Although he's talking basics, it is some important stuff to know. Unlike all the other crap bass lessons on youtube. And to add to that statistics crap before my post... 99% of bass players are ex guitar players that couldn't get a guitar gig. lol

  • lol i'd go with like 80%, i went to my friends band practise once and i had to ask why the bass player sucked so bad and it's cus he played guitar. so what i did was i picked it up the bass and he tried rythem guitar so everything was good in the band =)

  • yeah that's basically what happened with me. all my freinds play guitar but most of them suck, and I wanted to learn an instrument so im like " fuck guitar, ima learn bass."

  • fuck yea, same

  • exactly the same at my school theres like no way of starting bands coz theres like 80% guitarist 15%drummers and the remaining 5%bassists and vocalists and the "kewl popular pple" play guit so im like WTF im not popular and theres always gonna ba abetter guitar player out there so bass dude

  • There'll also always be a better bassist. Play both man. It's what I do. Sure bassists have more gigs and opportunities to join bands, but playing guitar is just as much an extension of a musician's soul. Well, for some it is. Others are more exclusive, or have passion for other instruments.

Don't get discouraged or let anyone boss you around about what to do on a bass though. Serve a song, but be yourself and play what you fucking want to.

  • that kid must blow at guitar. If you can figure out how to use your fingers and you're a guitar player, and you can't play bass, then you can't play guitar either. I know crazy bassists that pick up guitars for the first time and own at that too. I just started playing bass, and personally I think its way more fun than guitar. ha ha. Sickest instrument ever.

  • 90% of people are chavs

  • Nice bass guitar! I like it when the bass is a bit behind the beat like he says.

  • the bass isnt always at the back... Primus for example

  • depends on the style of music

  • pause at 2:48, funny.

  • That riff from 2:32 is really good

  • 90% of drummers now use click tracks.

  • 90% of facts aren't true.

  • 90% of statistics are made up on the spot.

  • 90% of men who masturbate in public recieve better pleasure

  • 90% of thingys are thingys or scary mary sweaty bettys.

  • 90% of girls now do anal

  • think i've got one of the 10% lol

  • it all really depends on the type of music. if it's industrial for example, with lots of sequencers and synthesizer parts that are repeated in specific tempo, it's logical for drummer to use some kind of click track. Truth is that click track is now widely used in studio while recording, but not so much while rehearsing.

  • I'm so glad you could tell us the truth...
