The "science" in the bible are proven wrong time and time again. Merely everything are false or misunderstood. So when we know this, why should we then believe the spiritual part then?
@montrealwatcher Actually, that's nothing what you have to tell me. But probably, you should tell this Ken Ham. (I'm sorry for every miss understandment, but english isn't my mother tongue.)
Well, yes it was a book which chronicled hand-me-down stories from person to person. I don't know if he had a point there. Ever do the "Chinese whisper game" as a kid in school? By the time the story gets back to you, it is unrecognizable. We all know how people embellish stories, I wouldn't put any money on it being a book of: history, biology, Astronomy etc. and being at all correct. Could have saved millions by simply going over penicillin.... so much for usefulness. sigh !!!
My opinion of Ken Ham vacillates between throw-the-hands-in-the-air-and-mutter-he's-fucking-hopeless, and just-let-me-get-my-hands-around-that-lying-prick's-neck.
I feel the former when he's blabbering about his lovely "museum", and I feel the latter when he's teaching children to blindly recite bullshit like, "Were you there?".
Of course, I'd never actually harm the asshole...
You see, I'm an atheist; I have morals. *GASP*
I wish more liars for Jebus could make the same claim.
so the earth is only 10,000 years old ? I thought that was about the time of the agricultural revolution....silly me. Should have known a tattered old manuscript would be more accurate than all those radiometric clocks corroborating data left and right.
@ksthebest And I understand the branching effect of evolution. I know it was not supposed to have happened overnight. I just don't believe the earth has been around long enough for evolution to have brought us to where we are today.
@ForgivenAndFree28 how is 4.5 billion years not long enough? we can't comprehend a fraction of that so there is plenty of time for life forms to have evolved into their present state. your personal incredulity bears nothing on the overwhelming evidence and support for evolution
@ksthebest All right, point taken. Sorry for the error. I haven't studied evolution as deeply as many of the people here I'm sure. And I'm not completely against evolution in itself. I know there is room for "moving around" if you will, in the DNA code, which explains the differences we see in birds, cats, fish, etc.
But I personally look to the Bible and find what I see to be a more practical and likely explanation of how things started.
@ForgivenAndFree28 why look to the bible? why not the illiad? the koran? the egyptian book of the dead? there are 1000s of creation myths out there, why look to only this one? science is a better route to truth than ancient manuscripts. to those writers, a wheelbarrel was big technology, why would their thoughts on the origins of the universe hold any relevance today?
Borgmx5 - But where are the missing links? There should a period of several thousand years when the species were in a state of transition somewhere between this common ancestor and today's modern human and/or chimp.
There should be millions of such examples contained in fossils etc., but scientists seem to have trouble finding any. Please correct me if I'm mistaken there.
@ForgivenAndFree28 You're mistaken. You have a gross misunderstanding of the Theory of Evolution. You assume that one day a common ancestor gave birth to a human or another ape, but that's not the way it worked. Evolution is a process that happens over millions of years, and humans very slowly evolved from the common ancestor. No missing links? Try the entire Homo species.
@ForgivenAndFree28 You are mistaken, go read Donald Prothero's book on fossils, its a good start, he's a leading paleontologist and specializes on mammals. There are many fine examples of transitional forms. The missing link is not missing.
The foundation of Ham's argument, consistent literal interpretation of the Bible or nothing, seems to be a principal of intellectual honesty but the consequences of it (if at this point one chooses not to cast the Bible into the dustbin) are extreme scepticism about observations of the world we live in, and/or distortions and cherry picking of our observations. It is the later path that leads Ham to make use pseudoscientific narratives that make him appear intellectually dishonest.
According to scientists who specialize in DNA studies, we share 98% of our DNA with apes, the species that we supposedly evolved from. But guess what? That's how closely related we are to bananas. And I'm fairly certain I didn't evolve from a banana.
@ForgivenAndFree28 The 50% of genes we share with bananas (and ALL plants for that matter) are those that deal with cell division, cell energetics and nutrition, DNA replication, etc. Every living thing shares a certain number of genes that serve these functions - that's no surprise - in fact that's exactly what the theory of evolution predicts. What is surprising is that you think you know something about evolution.
@ForgivenAndFree28 We share 98% of our DNA with modern chimps. Evolution does not say we evolved from them, only that we share a common ancestor in our evolutionary paths. We did not evolve from modern chimps.
@Shade0591 propoganda? if you want to see the whole video you should just look it up, it also has NO facts, NO evidence, ALL bullshit, ALL ignorance, there has literally not been ONE fact to support creationism and LITERALLY EVERY FACT SUPPORTS EVOLUTION, send me a personal message so i can show you some evidence, there is waaaaayy too much to show on a comment, too much for even a whole video, too much for even a full length movie
@blazereef Every fact? You're making quite the assumption. That's the thing about you people, you make huuuuge claims yet nothing to back it up sometimes, or you make a gigantic jump from one piece of evidence to one massive conclusion. You say "God can't exist" but for what reason? You haven't even done anything to measure Him. Well, that's what happens when the watch tries to supplant the watchmaker: He can't.
@Shade0591 If you find a verifiable piece of evidence that can disprove evolution then congrats! You just qualified for a Nobel prize, because none have ever been found.
Atheists don't say "God can't exist" for that is a claim that is as impossible to prove as saying that "God does exist". All that we claim is that there is no need for a god within the system, because we can demonstrate how all these things happened through completely natural causes with no need for a god of any kind.
@Alexrider02 Ah what a good time to apply some of my Apologetics learning. Independence from God, the worldly view you're trying to defend, and dependence on God the Biblical view we have. You think the world can keep spinning without God? Well, you've traced yourself back to the basis of Deism. We believe there is a God who sustains all things as well as He created them. Only thing is, he does it in such a way that you think the world is so perfect that it can manage itself.
@Shade0591 So you believe your God created this universe to SEEM as if it could viably work and have come into being completely without any interference? Maybe you'll say that it's to "test our faith", but isn't creating something for the sole intent of tricking people called forgery, and isn't forgery equivalent with lying? And doesn't the bible say that God cannot lie?
@Alexrider02 God can't lie? Huh? Where'd you get that nonsense? God can do whatever he wants, idiot. That's why we call him God. I swear the reason everyone is following evolution is because they're too stupid to understand a divine creator. Well, he can't sin or die, that's all. Also, another thing: God didn't create everything in this world. Satan made lust, sin, evil, everything bad. So since he has such power of human souls, he can forge all he wants.
@Shade0591 Hebrews 6:18: "God did this so that, by two unchangeable things in which it is impossible for God to lie, we who have fled to take hold of the hope offered to us may be greatly encouraged."(NIV) and also in Titus 1:2: "in hope of eternal life, which God, who never lies, promised before the ages began" (ESV)
Where do you get the idea that Satan created anything? God is always referred to as the creator of everything. Also, God created both the means to commit, and then he himself...
@Alexrider02 Are you saying God created sin? Read 1 John 2: 16, all that is in the world is not from the father but the world. Inspire by fallen man corrupted by Satan himself. It's impossible for God to sin, but who's to say he can't leave anything to challenge one's faith? Job went through a lot because God wanted to test his faith. Also, no where in scripture is it said the tree of knowledge was to test man's faith.
...actually committed the first evil act. God punished Eve for eating an apple from a tree that he placed there for no reason other than to test her, and then got mad when she went against his word after knowing nothing of consequences, and then punished all snakes until the end of time for what one snake did, or as you would undoubtedly claim the devil disguised as a snake, but that would makes things even worse, because he would then have punished all snakes for what none of them did at all.
@Shade0591 Also, the irony of your "too stupid to understand a creator" argument is overwhelmingly hilarious. One of the main reasons that people believe in religion is because it's easier to understand than actual scientific theory and the truth of the universe. Science is big. Really big. For one person to get a grasp on the entirety of life, they would have to understand cosmology, biology, chemistry, physics, etc. and all the levels of these studies from the quantum scale up.
@Alexrider02 Science is nothing but surface truth. Vane pursuits of man to seek a higher place in the universe. It's the Tower of Babel all over again, but the punishment this time is hell.
@Shade0591 Science is the explanations of observations in our observable universe. We can then use these observations to create cures and vaccines for diseases, to create buildings and other structures to protect us from natural disasters, to build ships to transport goods, improved growing methods to grow your food, create inter-connecting fields of data transfer that you know and love as the internet. Science has brought us every aspect of life that we know today. THAT is what science is.
@Alexrider02 And in the end worthless because you're still going to hell. See how different our world views are? You say you don't worship a God, I do, you worship science, I think it's pointless.
@Alexrider02 Nope. Just pointing out you yourself have a little god that you call science. Sure, science can help if all you care about is a world which is going to rot away anyway. Whether you're hit by a train, bullet, or heat death of the entire universe you're going to die. If you're right, I'll die a grumpy old man and nothing will happen; but if I'm right, you'll have eternal suffering waiting for you. Evolution is vane and pointless.
@Shade0591 Man, LOVIN' the false dichotomy buddy! Are those really my only two choices? Oh well, I suppose if your idea were correct, I would gladly take my place in hell, because really, everyone I've ever known and cared about will be there too. Also consider this, if the devil is naturally against god, and god says that sinners should go to hell and be tortured, would not the devil make hell a GOOD place, so he could defy god? Food for thought...
@Shade0591 ALSO, before I forget, Evolution is not vane and pointless, evolution is a science that is INCREDIBLY important. Without Evolutionary Biology, scientists would not be able to trace the path of diseases, or be able to create cures for ever-evolving diseases. So sure, ignore evolution and live in your little mad world of self-security, but enjoy your polio and black plague and every other disease that science has cured for you.
@Alexrider02 You make it sound like he likes you. The devil wants you to suffer, he's jealous of you. Again, you're going to DIE. All roads end with DEATH. Nothing at the end but a carcass. So what's the point if you're going to turn into dust anyway? It's all pointless in the long run. I though only children should be living in the moment, but it seems adults can enjoy that luxury as well.
@Shade0591 Thanks for stating the obvious? Of course everything ends with death. And no, it's not "all pointless" in the long run. Just because you don't have a cosmic ruler who will make you suffer for eternity if you don't blindly follow a dogmatic religion of hate-mongering bigots, it doesn't mean that you have no purpose, it simply means that YOU choose your own purpose in life. I don't know what you do for a living, but I'm sure that whatever it is, it helps people. You help our...
@Shade0591 civilization progress and thrive. And why should one not live for the moment? The moment is all we have. The past is gone forever and the future is forever unknown. All we can do is live moment to moment, and enjoy every single second of it, because this life is precious and brief and it will be over before you know it. I don't want to waste my life waiting for the next one, and bowing down to a deity in hopes that I am perfect enough for said deity to accept me into their "heaven".
@Alexrider02 Hate-mongering bigots? You're the one who want to classify human beings into different sects of people. We say they all come from two damn people so we're all related anyway. How are we hateful? In fact, the hypocrisy is striking that your community tends to suppress our beliefs yet you still say that you're trying to make a fair world where everybody's equal where "someone can choose their path in life".
@Shade0591 When has ANYONE ever suppressed your beliefs? Is that some self-projection I'm hearing here? Perhaps from the man who follows the religion that killed thousands of men and women during the Salem witch trials to suppress their beliefs? And also who killed and kidnapped untold numbers of Native Americans to suppress their beliefs and "Christianize" them? Or who killed each other because the voices in their head- oh, sorry, "God" told them to do it?
@Alexrider02 Branding the sins of many generations before my time all on my head, what a fool you are. Still, you are my brother or sister if you're politically correct. I hope you will fare well in life, take care.
@Shade0591 Anyways, you're beginning to bore me. I have better things to do, like get a real college education, not one from a "Happy Baby Jesus University" diploma-mill like Mr. Hovind and the like.
When the invisible wizard in the sky decided to make animals, did he use a magic wand or some form of voodoo stick? Or was it just hand gestures with lightning coming out of his finger-tips?
When he did this miracle did he say "Alakazam!" or "Mapichubabu!" or some kind of dramatic incantation to mark the occassion? Or was he just silent the whole time?
Also, does this omnipresent magician dude talk to you inside your head?
why are some people acting towards the Bible like if it where some kind of criminnal,
What happend to innocent until proven otherwise or giving it the benefit of a doubt?
The only Reason people say the Bible is not true is because they fear that someday they will be held accountable for their Deeds. The Bible should not have to justify itself to a bunch of knowitall people who consider themselfs to be descendants from Apes.
@evilbastard1995 The bible says the earth is flat. Ken Ham says that if the science in the bible is wrong, the whole thing must be untrue. Ken ham said the bible is untrue. I love when people disprove their own point. It makes my job that much easier. :)
How can any of it be true? Well because it is not a single book. The Bible is composed of collected documents all of which have their own histories which includes editing and copying. It's quite possible that some parts of it are acurate and some are not. People like Ham run into difficulty because they want to see the whole Bible as innerrant. Sorry chaps but it isn't.
@TrippyDrummer We do not need to disprove the bible. You are the people making the claim, it is therefore entirely up to you to provide the proof. When I say proof, I mean verifiable, irrefutable evidence. Please don't say the evidence is in the bible, that is a circular argument. Oh and an extraordinary claim requires extraordinary evidence.
I really think that you have missed the point. The burden of proof lies with the person(s) making the claim.
I assume that you do not believe unicorns exist, and yet you do not go looking for people who say they do. However, if I came up to you & said I know with absolute certainy that unicorns exist, you would say "prove it then". I made the claim so I would have to provide the evidence.
In the same way: you claim there is a god, you made the claim so I say prove it.
@TrippyDrummer That's not how these things work because we would have to assume that all books and documents are true unless proven otherwise. This is not a reasonable position. It's down to you to prove the Bible's special status in this respect. You're also assuming the coherence of the Bible as a whole book when it is nothing of the kind. It is a collection of documents. Demonstrating that one part was unreliable as history would not disprove a different part.
if you are atheist say teamdarwin1809@socksumi so that everyone or atleast most people will know where you are coming and it'll be easy to figure our seemingly clever statement are from a standpoint of big error.
Leave Ken Ham alone. Go and learn and earn some degrees too then we may believe you maybe. But God does exist.
@socksumi Ken Ham figured out how to cash in on American ignorance. That is where his intelligence is. He can spread all these lies, make a bundle off of ignarance, and live the life of luxury. I truely hate this evil person for this.
With all the evidence man has in the natural world, and how the natural world works, only the fool falls for BS like this. Now, how can I cash in on this ignorance too?
Creation is fiction:This is the teaching of amillenial covenant theology which is based on an allegorical interpretation of Scripture as opposed to a literal one . This is the dominant teaching in most theological seminaries and has been for decades. As an example, there are 106 schools in the Christian College Coalition. Of those 106 only 5 teach a literal interpretation of the Genesis account of creation or that the flood was global & the flood prevailed the highest peaks
REAL Science, which includes evolution, leads to applications (ie technology,
medicine, etc) we see EVERY day, that try to improve our lives, usually. That being true, what are some applications of "creation science" or ID? NOBODY has ever seen ANY. Has it cured any disease? Other than raising TAX-FREE money and recruiting incognizant, illiterate political pawns, What's its f#<king point?
When I see him I sometimes stop believing in evolution. Or that some people did not evolve and are still on level of monkeys(or ape-like ancestors to be specific)
Good point, Ken. Thus, the Bible has a serious credibility problem on the spiritual front, because it is inaccurate on virtually every detail of astronomy, geology, and anthropology.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
@Bronstonify Really then how?, it says in their that the earth is a round sphere floating in nothing, pretty accurate for a book of lies written in the first century!.
Arguments cannot be answered by personal abuse.... Should it turn out that I am the worst man in the whole world, the story of the flood will remain just as improbable as before, and the contradictions of the Pentateuch will still demand an explanation. -- Robert Ingersoll, Some Mistakes of Moses
Isnt it is odd that people who studied the bible for over 1,000 years insisted the circle of the earth was flat, and persecuted anyone who said otherwise. And once we discovered that the earth was a sphere, the pious claim that the bible said this all along.
It is far too easy to use hindsight to interpret modern meanings into vague biblical passages. Post hoc Bible interpretation is tantamount to reading tea leaves.
Creationists are now saying that the bible mentions the earth is shaped like a circle, and this should prove that's it's a sphere. Though they need a math update, cause last time I checked, circles are flat...
@Bronstonify That's an urban legend originating from a Victorian biography of Christopher Columbus. Everyone (including the church) knew the Earth was spherical, and they even knew it's approximate size (ancient greeks figured it out). Columbus thought the diameter was far smaller, and that it would be possible to sail to Asia. He was wrong, and would have died had he not found the Americas.
However, the church did execute plenty of people who said the Earth orbits the Sun !!
@Bronstonify not full tru. St augustine, and thomas aquinas both knew the earth was spherical in shape. In fact the earth was proven to be spherical by the time of Aristotle and since augustine had a greek education, he would have learned these things. Thomas Aquinas also knew this and even assumed that his audience knew the earth was spherical
@Aheadstix85 , Until any theists can devise a method of "proving" that it's the finger print of god, then it's just a bogus claim. Kind of like saying Look at the trees, god exists, DUH. If you have a strong attachment to reality, then you're just looking at trees. Oooh, Stars. Theists never thought of that one before. Whats next, a banana?
Does truth really exist? Its all semantics and your point of view. If I take a rock and smash your brains out is that "rock" your "god"? It was the most important thing in the last minutes of your life. Maybe if you prayed to the rock it wouldn't kill you?
As an antipodean wanker I take offense at being associated with Ken Hamm :) . Two of Australia's greatest successes have been getting Ken Hamm and Rupert Murdoch out of the country.
The funny thing is that listening to him here it is almost as if he is trying to take down Christianity from the inside.
He really does a disservice to Christianity because he's basically saying it's all or nothing, when it doesn't have to be. A scientist who here's Ham speak will basically hear that he has to drop everything he's ever worked on to believe in something, and that most likely will not happen. I've never heard where Jesus said "You must believe in creationism to go to Heaven", just that you believe in Him.
Imagine christian farmer reading the Bible going "Hey, it says in here how to breed cows with stripes! I'm gonna try that out!"
He tries, it clearly fails because it's scientifically impossible! Does Hamm honestly think that this farmer is then gonna go ARRRRRRRRRGHHHHHH NOTHING IN THIS BOOK MAKES ANY SENSE! I'M GONNA STEAL, RAPE, MURDER, AND KILL MYSELF COS IT'S ALL LIES!!!!!!!
Just because the bible "touches on a few subjects", doesn't make the be all and end all. What would happen to science today if we just said " wow god did it" and we never explored that particular subject? If we just left it there and initiated no more study, we would be giving into ignorance. Welcome to the next intellectual dark age.
1) Nearly all branches of Science were started by creationists.
2) The evolution theory has added nothing to the advancement of science (except corrupt society and lifestyles) it is a useless theory.
3) When students or professors fear expressing their conclusions ['Darwinism is full of holes'] under the threat of being flunked, demoted, fired, or ostracized science is suppressed.
1) so what? it doesn't mean that now all things creationists say is true. science shows much of what they say to be wrong.
2) wrong. it's advanced medicine, biology, even engineering. plus others.
3) wrong. if those people had such evidence then they would put them forward, test them, get them peer reviewed and such. they don't. Instead they try to use politics, no evidence and even lie to get their ideas out.
1) Well that depends which sources you used to come to this conclusion. But perhaps it may make sense, since many of the branches of science started out long ago, when there was not much knowledge about the world.
2) well then what is the point of taking flu vaccines every year, is it because the old one's expires? or maybe the viruses evolve to be immune to the vaccine? Viruses are the best example in my opinion for us to observe evolution in a reasonably short amount of time
The same reason they die for the Koran or were killed in the Waco massacre. They may have believed it or could have just been completely mad. What you should be asking is if it is true and Jesus wandered around performing miracles in front of the masses, then why did he only convert a handful of people? Deep down you know the answer.
If christanity is not true why did the prophets died preaching it What is that nobody dies for a lie and also people are so hostile towards christanity .
UHG! Ham is playing right into the materialists hands. Genesis 1 was never intended to be a scientific play-by-play of natural history. Stop ignoring the ANE context!
The main difference between creation and evolution ( besides the God point) is that creationists think the world was perfect and is slowly getting worse, and evolutionists think the world was terrible and is slowly getting better.
getting better, look around you. things are getting worse. just like jesus said, signs of his coming would include nations rising against nations and famine and earthquake
of course, because everyone knows that 'nations rising against nations and famine and earthquake' hasn't been going on waaaay before Christians and other organized religion
Yeah, dude, world's not getting worse, media coverage is getting better. Look back at Word War I and II, and at the Spanish flu, for example, all things that happened more than 60 years ago. Not to mention the black plague hundreds of years ago. If the world didn't end with all those really catastrophic things, we're at least good for now.
The reason that the spiritual/moral things in the bible can be true is that they've been mentioned in other works as well. "Do unto others...." is a classic piece of wisdom included in many sacred texts. Ham has dogma confused with deity. He can't accept that god might be bigger than the bible.
So other works validate the Bible? Just because another man might write a book saying that the earth is round, it then validates that the Bible says that the earth is a sphere? So then I can wrote a book about how the Bible is completely true and It validates it? And God is bigger than the Bible, uh because He wrote it. Just like any book is just one piece of person writing it.
The Bible is not a science text book. But whenever it does speak on science it is completely correct. Like when it talks about the "paths of the sea" (currents) or when it says " the earth hangeth upon nothing" (earth sits on nothing).
Or like when it says the world was creted by God in six days?
Plus the dude does say that the bible tells us of biology, chemistry, physics, astronomy... It may contain these things just in passing but it is still alot of stuff for a little book to talk about. So is it worth scrapping all the hard earned knowledge we have about these subjects to start again from what little the bible tells us about them?
No, why would we scrap all of the correct information learned over the years? I'm just saying that what ever contradicts what the Bible says is wrong. When man said that the world was flat, man was wrong. However, the Bible maintains that the earth is round. Or when bleeding a person to "clean" out infection was a medically acceptable thing to do, the Bible stated that the life was in the blood.
So what "hard earned knowledge" do we have to "scrap" ?
18 As for men, God tests them so that they may see that they are like the animals. 19 Man's fate is like that of the animals; the same fate awaits them both: As one dies, so dies the other. All have the same breath; man has no advantage over the animal...20 All go to the same place; all come from dust, and to dust all return.
This is why any type of fundamental thinking is screwed up. The notion here is that you must accept *100%* of the material, and if you don't accept 100%, then you by default reject all of it. This is crazy, and devoid of critical thinking.
Any inspired writing can be a spiritual and moral guide. But please, PLEASE don't take it all as gospel. The earth is getting smaller. Fundies- please don't screw it up for the rest of us!
If you can pick and choose what you like, you can create your own reality and standard of living.
Like for instance, I think its ok to lie and steal from my boss because he didn't give me my desired raise. Or that I can abort a baby and then go and stand proclaiming to the world that killing trees is wrong.
You are worth something, and you were worth something before you ever heard of a religion. Further, you didn't come from a monkey. Humans are one of the great apes. Humans and other apes share an ancestor. The similarities found in taxonomy, genetic research, etc are compelling, and haven't so far been refuted. It's not a matter of opinion. Ham has no respect for science, yet he's happy to reap the many benefits of scientific research. What an ass.
No, evolution says I'm just an animal formed by chemical irregularities . The similarities in the bones structure of an ape and mine show the same designer.
The similarities go deeper than bones. Speaking of bones, why did the "designer" give ostriches (flightless) the same lightweight, hollow bones as other birds? A good design would be solid bones for strength. Alternately, why do bats have solid bones instead of hollow ones, which would be better for flight? Answer: These animals belong to specific groups that share features. Why do virtually all living creatures fit into a nested hierarchy that indicates descent with modification?
The animals function fine, the hollow bones in an ostrich doesn't hinder its living, same with the bat. The problem is how did they get here, not how they function. You say from something, I say they came from nothing but a string of words that God spoke, bringing all life into exsistance.

WOW! Thank you creatard for giving atheists a way to deconvert every Bible literalist!
Evolution is a 100% proven scientific fact & if that means the Bible is wrong 100% you then destroy Christianity! What a tool!

@ForgivenAndFree28 how is 4.5 billion years not long enough? we can't comprehend a fraction of that so there is plenty of time for life forms to have evolved into their present state. your personal incredulity bears nothing on the overwhelming evidence and support for evolution
caddy38 9 months ago
@ksthebest All right, point taken. Sorry for the error. I haven't studied evolution as deeply as many of the people here I'm sure. And I'm not completely against evolution in itself. I know there is room for "moving around" if you will, in the DNA code, which explains the differences we see in birds, cats, fish, etc.
But I personally look to the Bible and find what I see to be a more practical and likely explanation of how things started.
ForgivenAndFree28 1 year ago
@ForgivenAndFree28 why look to the bible? why not the illiad? the koran? the egyptian book of the dead? there are 1000s of creation myths out there, why look to only this one? science is a better route to truth than ancient manuscripts. to those writers, a wheelbarrel was big technology, why would their thoughts on the origins of the universe hold any relevance today?
caddy38 9 months ago
Borgmx5 - But where are the missing links? There should a period of several thousand years when the species were in a state of transition somewhere between this common ancestor and today's modern human and/or chimp.
There should be millions of such examples contained in fossils etc., but scientists seem to have trouble finding any. Please correct me if I'm mistaken there.
ForgivenAndFree28 1 year ago
@ForgivenAndFree28 You're mistaken. You have a gross misunderstanding of the Theory of Evolution. You assume that one day a common ancestor gave birth to a human or another ape, but that's not the way it worked. Evolution is a process that happens over millions of years, and humans very slowly evolved from the common ancestor. No missing links? Try the entire Homo species.

So the reason to reject mainstream science is THE BIBLE.

ForgivenAndFree28 1 year ago
@ForgivenAndFree28 The 50% of genes we share with bananas (and ALL plants for that matter) are those that deal with cell division, cell energetics and nutrition, DNA replication, etc. Every living thing shares a certain number of genes that serve these functions - that's no surprise - in fact that's exactly what the theory of evolution predicts. What is surprising is that you think you know something about evolution.
jknengr796 1 year ago
@ForgivenAndFree28 We share 98% of our DNA with modern chimps. Evolution does not say we evolved from them, only that we share a common ancestor in our evolutionary paths. We did not evolve from modern chimps.

blazereef 1 year ago
@blazereef Every fact? You're making quite the assumption. That's the thing about you people, you make huuuuge claims yet nothing to back it up sometimes, or you make a gigantic jump from one piece of evidence to one massive conclusion. You say "God can't exist" but for what reason? You haven't even done anything to measure Him. Well, that's what happens when the watch tries to supplant the watchmaker: He can't.
Shade0591 1 year ago
@Shade0591 If you find a verifiable piece of evidence that can disprove evolution then congrats! You just qualified for a Nobel prize, because none have ever been found.
Atheists don't say "God can't exist" for that is a claim that is as impossible to prove as saying that "God does exist". All that we claim is that there is no need for a god within the system, because we can demonstrate how all these things happened through completely natural causes with no need for a god of any kind.
Alexrider02 1 year ago
@Alexrider02 Ah what a good time to apply some of my Apologetics learning. Independence from God, the worldly view you're trying to defend, and dependence on God the Biblical view we have. You think the world can keep spinning without God? Well, you've traced yourself back to the basis of Deism. We believe there is a God who sustains all things as well as He created them. Only thing is, he does it in such a way that you think the world is so perfect that it can manage itself.
Shade0591 1 year ago
@Shade0591 So you believe your God created this universe to SEEM as if it could viably work and have come into being completely without any interference? Maybe you'll say that it's to "test our faith", but isn't creating something for the sole intent of tricking people called forgery, and isn't forgery equivalent with lying? And doesn't the bible say that God cannot lie?
Alexrider02 1 year ago
@Alexrider02 God can't lie? Huh? Where'd you get that nonsense? God can do whatever he wants, idiot. That's why we call him God. I swear the reason everyone is following evolution is because they're too stupid to understand a divine creator. Well, he can't sin or die, that's all. Also, another thing: God didn't create everything in this world. Satan made lust, sin, evil, everything bad. So since he has such power of human souls, he can forge all he wants.
Shade0591 1 year ago
@Shade0591 Hebrews 6:18: "God did this so that, by two unchangeable things in which it is impossible for God to lie, we who have fled to take hold of the hope offered to us may be greatly encouraged."(NIV) and also in Titus 1:2: "in hope of eternal life, which God, who never lies, promised before the ages began" (ESV)
Where do you get the idea that Satan created anything? God is always referred to as the creator of everything. Also, God created both the means to commit, and then he himself...
Alexrider02 1 year ago
@Alexrider02 Are you saying God created sin? Read 1 John 2: 16, all that is in the world is not from the father but the world. Inspire by fallen man corrupted by Satan himself. It's impossible for God to sin, but who's to say he can't leave anything to challenge one's faith? Job went through a lot because God wanted to test his faith. Also, no where in scripture is it said the tree of knowledge was to test man's faith.
Shade0591 1 year ago
...actually committed the first evil act.
Alexrider02 1 year ago
@Shade0591 Also, the irony of your "too stupid to understand a creator" argument is overwhelmingly hilarious. One of the main reasons that people believe in religion is because it's easier to understand than actual scientific theory and the truth of the universe. Science is big. Really big. For one person to get a grasp on the entirety of life, they would have to understand cosmology, biology, chemistry, physics, etc. and all the levels of these studies from the quantum scale up.
Alexrider02 1 year ago
@Alexrider02 Science is nothing but surface truth. Vane pursuits of man to seek a higher place in the universe. It's the Tower of Babel all over again, but the punishment this time is hell.
Shade0591 1 year ago
@Shade0591 Science is the explanations of observations in our observable universe. We can then use these observations to create cures and vaccines for diseases, to create buildings and other structures to protect us from natural disasters, to build ships to transport goods, improved growing methods to grow your food, create inter-connecting fields of data transfer that you know and love as the internet. Science has brought us every aspect of life that we know today. THAT is what science is.
Alexrider02 1 year ago
@Alexrider02 And in the end worthless because you're still going to hell. See how different our world views are? You say you don't worship a God, I do, you worship science, I think it's pointless.
Shade0591 1 year ago
@Shade0591 Awesome red herring man. Good job totally avoiding the point.
Alexrider02 1 year ago
@Alexrider02 Nope. Just pointing out you yourself have a little god that you call science. Sure, science can help if all you care about is a world which is going to rot away anyway. Whether you're hit by a train, bullet, or heat death of the entire universe you're going to die. If you're right, I'll die a grumpy old man and nothing will happen; but if I'm right, you'll have eternal suffering waiting for you. Evolution is vane and pointless.
Shade0591 1 year ago
@Shade0591 Man, LOVIN' the false dichotomy buddy! Are those really my only two choices? Oh well, I suppose if your idea were correct, I would gladly take my place in hell, because really, everyone I've ever known and cared about will be there too. Also consider this, if the devil is naturally against god, and god says that sinners should go to hell and be tortured, would not the devil make hell a GOOD place, so he could defy god? Food for thought...
Alexrider02 1 year ago
@Shade0591 ALSO, before I forget, Evolution is not vane and pointless, evolution is a science that is INCREDIBLY important. Without Evolutionary Biology, scientists would not be able to trace the path of diseases, or be able to create cures for ever-evolving diseases. So sure, ignore evolution and live in your little mad world of self-security, but enjoy your polio and black plague and every other disease that science has cured for you.

How can any of it be true? Well because it is not a single book. The Bible is composed of collected documents all of which have their own histories which includes editing and copying.
In the same way: you claim there is a god, you made the claim so I say prove it.
freetheworldof 1 year ago
@TrippyDrummer That's not how these things work because we would have to assume that all books and documents are true unless proven otherwise. This is not a reasonable position. It's down to you to prove the Bible's special status in this respect. You're also assuming the coherence of the Bible as a whole book when it is nothing of the kind. It is a collection of documents. Demonstrating that one part was unreliable as history would not disprove a different part.

However, the church did execute plenty of people who said the Earth orbits the Sun !!
robthebloke 11 months ago
@Bronstonify not full tru. St augustine, and thomas aquinas both knew the earth was spherical in shape. In fact the earth was proven to be spherical by the time of Aristotle and since augustine had a greek education, he would have learned these things. Thomas Aquinas also knew this and even assumed that his audience knew the earth was spherical

Eye2EyeIIIV 2 years ago
1) so what? it doesn't mean that now all things creationists say is true. science shows much of what they say to be wrong.
2) wrong. it's advanced medicine, biology, even engineering. plus others.
3) wrong. if those people had such evidence then they would put them forward, test them, get them peer reviewed and such. they don't. Instead they try to use politics, no evidence and even lie to get their ideas out.
JackWisps 2 years ago
1) Well that depends which sources you used to come to this conclusion. But perhaps it may make sense, since many of the branches of science started out long ago, when there was not much knowledge about the world.
2) well then what is the point of taking flu vaccines every year, is it because the old one's expires? or maybe the viruses evolve to be immune to the vaccine? Viruses are the best example in my opinion for us to observe evolution in a reasonably short amount of time

I think the reason Ken Ham believes in creationism is because of the six figure income he makes selling nonsense to morons.
g12er 2 years ago 2
The same reason they die for the Koran or were killed in the Waco massacre. They may have believed it or could have just been completely mad. What you should be asking is if it is true and Jesus wandered around performing miracles in front of the masses, then why did he only convert a handful of people? Deep down you know the answer.

If christanity is not true why did the prophets died preaching it What is that nobody dies for a lie and also people are so hostile towards christanity .
BlackAce1229 2 years ago
Same can be said for any other religion.
Spanky00Cheeks 2 years ago
And since so much of it is NOT true, how can you believe the heavenly things it says?

This guy makes a far better argument against Christianity than he realizes lol.

UHG! Ham is playing right into the materialists hands. Genesis 1 was never intended to be a scientific play-by-play of natural history. Stop ignoring the ANE context!

The Bible says the earth is flat.
And that the sun revolves around the earth.
And that humans are made of dirt.
And that snakes and donkeys talk.
And that insects have 4 legs.
And that bats are birds.
And that Pi = 3 rather than 3.1416...
And that animals appeared AFTER man but BEFORE woman.
This is a better source of information
than the careful collection and examination of data?

The main difference between creation and evolution ( besides the God point) is that creationists think the world was perfect and is slowly getting worse, and evolutionists think the world was terrible and is slowly getting better.

Please take a look at some videos by youtube user Donexodus and see what you think. He's a Christian. Peace.

I meant DonExodus2. Sorry.

wrong, evolunists KNOW the world was terrible and is slowly getting better.

getting better, look around you. things are getting worse. just like jesus said, signs of his coming would include nations rising against nations and famine and earthquake
soccerplyr45 2 years ago
of course, because everyone knows that 'nations rising against nations and famine and earthquake' hasn't been going on waaaay before Christians and other organized religion

@electricbumblebee Therein lies your fatal assumption.
dougmoerhoffman 1 year ago
Yeah, dude, world's not getting worse, media coverage is getting better. Look back at Word War I and II, and at the Spanish flu, for example, all things that happened more than 60 years ago. Not to mention the black plague hundreds of years ago. If the world didn't end with all those really catastrophic things, we're at least good for now.
PrinnyKing3 2 years ago
The main difference between creation and evolution is, one is science and can be proven and one is religion and you need faith to believe in it.
gregrutz 2 years ago
The reason that the spiritual/moral things in the bible can be true is that they've been mentioned in other works as well. "Do unto others...." is a classic piece of wisdom included in many sacred texts. Ham has dogma confused with deity. He can't accept that god might be bigger than the bible.
drumrnva 2 years ago
So other works validate the Bible? Just because another man might write a book saying that the earth is round, it then validates that the Bible says that the earth is a sphere? So then I can wrote a book about how the Bible is completely true and It validates it? And God is bigger than the Bible, uh because He wrote it. Just like any book is just one piece of person writing it.
Everlygirl1012 2 years ago
So that 1 little book called the bible supposedly contain all the info on all sciences that I can find in my uni`s library?
chocopaopao 2 years ago
The Bible is not a science text book. But whenever it does speak on science it is completely correct. Like when it talks about the "paths of the sea" (currents) or when it says " the earth hangeth upon nothing" (earth sits on nothing).
Everlygirl1012 2 years ago
Or like when it says the world was creted by God in six days?
Plus the dude does say that the bible tells us of biology, chemistry, physics, astronomy... It may contain these things just in passing but it is still alot of stuff for a little book to talk about. So is it worth scrapping all the hard earned knowledge we have about these subjects to start again from what little the bible tells us about them?
chocopaopao 2 years ago
No, why would we scrap all of the correct information learned over the years? I'm just saying that what ever contradicts what the Bible says is wrong. When man said that the world was flat, man was wrong. However, the Bible maintains that the earth is round. Or when bleeding a person to "clean" out infection was a medically acceptable thing to do, the Bible stated that the life was in the blood.
So what "hard earned knowledge" do we have to "scrap" ?

Too bad the Bible said the earth was flat.
And that the sun revolved around the earth.
And that humans are made of dirt.
And that snakes, donkeys, and bushes talk.
And that animals appeared AFTER man but BEFORE woman.
Other than a few minor details like that,
it's a really scientific book!
Hahahaha!!!!!
Imaginefree69 2 years ago 2
Ken actually makes a lot of sense in this clip. The science and history in the bible isn't true, so there's no reason to believe any of it.

"Humans are not animals!!"
Sound familiar?
But look at what the Bible has to say:
Ecclesiastes 3:
18 As for men, God tests them so that they may see that they are like the animals. 19 Man's fate is like that of the animals; the same fate awaits them both: As one dies, so dies the other. All have the same breath; man has no advantage over the animal...20 All go to the same place; all come from dust, and to dust all return.
Uh-oh...

Fundies- please don't screw it up for the rest of us!
drumrnva 2 years ago
If you can pick and choose what you like, you can create your own reality and standard of living.
Like for instance, I think its ok to lie and steal from my boss because he didn't give me my desired raise. Or that I can abort a baby and then go and stand proclaiming to the world that killing trees is wrong.
Everlygirl1012 2 years ago
You certainly can think those things, as long as you're willing to accept the consequences.
drumrnva 2 years ago
It's a whole lot better than thinking I am worth nothing and came from a monkey.
Everlygirl1012 2 years ago
You are worth something, and you were worth something before you ever heard of a religion. Further, you didn't come from a monkey. Humans are one of the great apes. Humans and other apes share an ancestor. The similarities found in taxonomy, genetic research, etc are compelling, and haven't so far been refuted. It's not a matter of opinion. Ham has no respect for science, yet he's happy to reap the many benefits of scientific research. What an ass.
drumrnva 2 years ago
No, evolution says I'm just an animal formed by chemical irregularities . The similarities in the bones structure of an ape and mine show the same designer.
Everlygirl1012 2 years ago
The similarities go deeper than bones. Speaking of bones, why did the "designer" give ostriches (flightless) the same lightweight, hollow bones as other birds? A good design would be solid bones for strength. Alternately, why do bats have solid bones instead of hollow ones, which would be better for flight? Answer: These animals belong to specific groups that share features. Why do virtually all living creatures fit into a nested hierarchy that indicates descent with modification?
drumrnva 2 years ago
The animals function fine, the hollow bones in an ostrich doesn't hinder its living, same with the bat. The problem is how did they get here, not how they function. You say from something, I say they came from nothing but a string of words that God spoke, bringing all life into exsistance.

Why does the human jaw have more teeth than it can comfortably contain? I got off easy- I only had to have one wisdom tooth removed. Great design!
