The spread of liberal democracy makes it predictable that war may be a thing of the past. With liberal democracy in place space exploration becomes very important to avoid the problems of overpopulation. If we do not explore then I predict the spread of totalitarianism from the template of liberal democracy. The past example being the Nazi party and this time anti-immigration parties may spring up but also nations may want to start wars to attain resources.
Why didn't Karl Marx think of this or Stalin or any Soviet leader??? Rather than creating spuknik for simply propaganda. Space exploration solves the riddle of over-population and economic cycle of capitalism. Capitalism is a template for socialism and communism! crony capitalism is a creation from the template. However, Thomas Malthus observation is also valid. Therefore, the need of a space program/space exploration for solving overpopulation problem is reasonable.
sergey kolorev, russia's best kept secret.the chief rocket designer. along with captured nazi scientist. they wroked together closesly on launching the first, satelite into space, the first animal, the first man, the first man to step outside of the shuttle. he was obvious planning the first man on the moon but he had to compete for funding as the government at the time did not see this as a great importance, he was diagnosed with cancer and died his lunar landing plan fell apart wihtout him.RIP
The space race was a joke, captured German technology hijacked and called its own by America. The Germans were using V2 rockets against Britain as early as 1942. The first U.S space rocket test was just a V2 without the swastikas on it. Operation paper clip was a U.S project to get all German ww2 scientists to work for the U.S military regardless of the horrific crimes many of them had commited. The U.S should be ashamed...
Why does the USA think they won the space race? The moon? that's funny as hopefully we will land on many more moons and planets. The real mile stones are first man made object, first living thing, first man, first woman and first spacewalk. These can never be broken ever. So give it a rest.by the time man starts landing on mars and moons of Jupiter,Armstrong will be forgotten but Gagarin will always be in human history. The Soviets won, you like it or not.
@NickBFilms LOL the moon is the finish line? Who even said there was a finish line you moron!?!
Soviet Union beat you to putting a satellite into space, beat you to putting a living creature into space, beat you to putting a man in space, and you beat them to the moon. And you actually think you woN!?!? Or the race is "over"!?!?!
WHAT ABOUT MARS YOU INVILIT! LOL!! So funny i got a good laugh out of your comment, thanks so much man. Made my night!
Just for the record: there was NO SPACE RACE. The USSR was racing the US but the US was not racing the Soviets. Calling an evolving technology like spaceflight a race was incorrect. Eventually a race developed from the US Apollo program in 1961 but the early years were not a race -no matter what the books or news of the day said or any videos today.
@gandaav4 Apollo was definitely a race. It had funding and the priorities to do the job. Not the early US space programs...they were simply programs to study space. How the media could call each launch part of a race borders on disbelief.
@westwest213LA In space of course,Its like saying you race to the USA and you win, yet the losing team went further west probably to San Fransisco. You can say that they made the best feat/effort in going that far, but you cant change the name of the game "Race to the USA". There wasnt any specificity in the Space Race until the US was beaten and they "redefined" the Space Race for something USSR isnt capable of going to.
Without captured German ww2 technology. We still would not have put a man in space or on the moon by 2011. The Germans invented the tech. It was stolen by the Russians and U.S and lied it was their own technology. If ww2 had never happened, the Germans would have put a man on the moon by the 50's...
@MrDeano324 USA got ALL the scientists in Germany after WW2, Read Operation Paperclip, one of which is Von Braun that headed the NASA program. But compare it to the USSR, they were left with old German junk(such as V rockets) to study on, yet they were able to build better rockets from them earlier using their OWN scientist and no German scientist to help. Germany wouldnt be able to go to space w/o Hitlers crazy ambitions that pushed German scientists to the limit(they discovered so much)
You make a good point about the USSR getting all the "junk" so to speak. But yes, the USSR was decades ahead of the U.S in space technology. The only reason the U.S got to the moon first was through captured German scientists and technology. And even then Russia got to space first...
The Germans were the true space race winners, the USSR a sound second, with the U.S coming in last place for not having their own space technology, and for cheating basically.
@MrDeano324 Basically Germany was the main factor that made USA a "world power". If im correct, they also got very good German economists in Operation Paperclip. And with German technology, they created the atomic bomb, jet engines and basically the first steps on stealth technology. Russians have very smart scientists, but I have to admit they need basis or a starting point to get them going, thats where Germany comes in. Hell, Russia wouldnt be the no.1 at rocket tech now if it wasnt for Germany.
@999cheetos999 Germany had nothing to do with America's atomic bomb program other than creating an incentive to speed it up. And Germany never had stealth technology.
@njdevil281 The principles of the atomic bomb was from the Germans, another crazy idea of Hitler to commit more genocide, USA made this German dream a reality(do you really think the USA is capable of visualizing a mass murdering weapon despite moral code?I dont think so). Stealth technology was exhibited by Ho-229 bombers which had very first RCS scramblers(triangle shape) and very first RAM coating (using principles from Sumpf and Scornsteinfeger materials),they knew stealth ALOT.
@999cheetos999 You are wrong on many levels. The a-bomb was invented by Americans like Oppenheimer, with the input of certain European scientists. The methods of enrichment and the firing triggers (uranium bullet) were all American. The Germans were never successful. Second the Horton Ho was not a stealth aircraft. It was made of wood (radar absorbent), because the horton brothers promised the Luftwaffe that they could make it cheap materially. And triangle shape has nothing to do with radar.
@njdevil281 The triangle shape has HORRIBLE aerodynamic properties and requires sophisticated computers to fly one properly(modern B-2 has computers but still flies like a fat ass), why make a triangle shaped aircraft that is horrible at flying(adding that it is tailess)instead of the traditional fixed wing design? Because of its ability to reflect radar, it was PROVEN by Piotr Ufimtsev himself. Its made of carbon filled plywood,Britain did it with fixed wing aircraft and was better.
@999cheetos999 You are confusing yourself, all modern jets need computers to fly. You are thinking of the f-117 which is not aerodynamically stable. The Horton Ho is a flying wing and is not triangular. It is aerodynamically stable. It was not designed for stealth, but for long range bombing and to be materially cheap.
@njdevil281 Im talking about complex computers. The B-2 itself is a bln dollar aircraft yet w/o computers it would crash, because they CANNOT make its triangle shaped body for RCS stealth aerodynamically stable, only diamond is aerodynamically stable(F-22,PAK-FA). The SU-37 or 35 can fly without computer assistance and they have the best aerodynamics and flight capability today. Im looking at the horton now and it has triangular nose configuration,it doesnt have to be literally a triangle
@njdevil281 Im talking about the roots, the concepts of the A-bomb was from the Germans, Uranium Club of 1939, if its not for Poland, Germany would of had the Uranium based weapons including atomic weapons and wont be suffering from budget cuts. Japan had some experience in atomic weapons but ended up buying stuff from the USA instead.Dont get me started on Operation Paperclip where USA hired Nazi scientists -__-
@999cheetos999 It doesn't matter where the concept for the a-bomb came from, the fact of the matter is that it was invented in the US in the largest most expensive project of WWII, it took 500,000 workers across the US in state of the art facilities across the nation, to enrich the uranium and develop the bomb. Germany wasn't even remotely close. And operation paperclip was standard intelligence gathering procedure. Capture their top scientists and make them talk for anything suspicious.
@njdevil281 "Doesnt matter?" without roots and concepts we wont have them earlier and technology would be lagging, without German concepts of nuclear fission your "nuke" wouldnt even exist, without German rocket tech ICBM's wouldnt exist, without chinese inventions we might no even have rockets, paper ,gunpowder and such. Dont even be proud of "inventing" a mass murdering weapon that nearly led us to extinction in the Cold War.
I find the ammount of nationalisim in these comments disturbing. Look past the stupid rivalry and you see the best of human ingenuity. This should be seen as scientific achievments, not american or soviet ones.
Does anyone have info about the rest of this piece? It seems like it continues. I would like to see more. Any info about the what doc this is from? Thanks.
