@JamesDwho I'll be building my first desktop in a few months. I am getting this processor and cooling master hyper 212 so I am wondering..do I need arctic silver? Does it come with it? If so, I apply it only on the top around the center, correct?
@ThereIsNobodyInHere no, the thermal compound included with the Hyper 212 will work perfectly fine, and place a small amount of the compound about the size of an uncooked grain of rice in the centre then mount the cooler, the pressure from the base of the cooler will flatten the compound out to cover the entire CPU surface
@L3gendaric in most games they perform the same, ud be better off getting an i5 2500K, overclocking it and spending more money on a good graphics card
I will be using the stock cooler for a moth until i gett more money to buy a corsair h80 cpu cooler, will I see a reduced performance because of the crapcooler intel gives you?
@wickedawesomehede if the CPU gets too hot under load the thermal protection will kick in a reduce the voltage of the CPU therefore reducing the clock speed and over performance
@cooki3saber even at stock speeds i wouldnt recommend using the stock cooler, it does a mediocre job at best, you can get a decent after market CPU cooler for about $35-$50
@DUHELLLO performance wise not really, the i7 2600K does perform better than the i5 2500K but in my opinion its not worth the extra money, most games these days are bottle-necked by the video card, ud be better of spending more money on a better video card.
@DUHELLLO For gaming, no. The only real difference between the two is the 2600k has hyperthreading which greatly cuts video encoding/rendering times and helps with 3D related stuff.
@DUHELLLO i think the only real difference is that the 2600k uses hyper threading, which means that there are 4 virtual cores added to the 4 normal cores.
but i looked up tests and there the 2500k isn´t any slower than the 2600k in computer games, so the 2600k is not worth the money as long as you want to use the computer for gaming
if you want to use it for rendering videos or something like that, a 2600k would do better
@o0PrepsirE0o yes because the i7 2600 is limited to 3.8Ghz with Turbo Boost where the i5 2500K can be overclocked past its turbo mode frequency, if ur not planning on overclocking CPU then its not a big deal.
@hackerboy28 yes, the i5 2500K stays very cool under full load with the H60, @ 4.5Ghz it stays around 65*C with a room temp of about 25*C and it idles around 30*C
Hello I'm getting the i5 2500k Sandy Bridge version, but I plan on using stock cooler, I was told that since the sandy bridge version is only 32nm opposed to the reg. 45nm, it produces MUCH less heat. Is this true?
@TheDJVAQ yes, the i5 2500K stays very cool under load because of the 32nm fabrication, though if you are planning on doing any extreme overclocking (3.8Ghz+) i would recommend that u get an after market CPU cooler
@airlobb absolutely, very powerful CPU and it stays extremely cool under load, excellent for overclocking i got it to 4.5Ghz EASY you could easily go higher
@airlobb bf 3 will be more video card depending than cpu for diablo 3 not sure but should be enough for iton high setting fr ultra mybe you will need a i7 but as i am not even 70% sure
i7 ftw

@o0PrepsirE0o yes but only up to the max turbo speed (3.8Ghz), so instead of running at 3.4Ghz most of the time, you would be running at 3.8Ghz

@o0PrepsirE0o yes because the i7 2600 is limited to 3.8Ghz with Turbo Boost where the i5 2500K can be overclocked past its turbo mode frequency, if ur not planning on overclocking CPU then its not a big deal.

Is it worth an extra £77 for an i7 2600k?
HU55UN1 6 months ago
@HU55UN1 i personally dont think its worth the extra money but if u want 8 CPU threads and and extra 2MB of CPU cache and i7 branding, then go for it
