  • Does anybody know what instrument is being played in the beginning- is it a Sitar or a Veena?

  • Ha ha! I am from India and I guessed this was Sindhi because of that peculiar Topi they are wearing - even Mr.Zardari wears it so I thought this must be Sindhi and from the comments I learn that it is!

Nice song - and I like this show because it shows the high quality of Pakistani artists!

  • @MWSARSCA you r right these r high quality artists and they r because of high class poetry and composition and instruments which's created by great soofi saint and poet HAZRAT SHAH ABDUL LATIF BHITAEE (R.A). Aijaz Ali Bhutto Bhit Shah Sindh Pakistan.

    is in sindhi language..

  • Coke's funding actual art! Mind: blown.

  • JIIIIIIIIIII LATIF, ANOTHER GOOD WORK OF COKE STUDIO,BEAUTIFULLY SUNG BY FAKIR JUMAN SHAH..

  • It's a masterpiece of Shah Abdul Latif Saein. The soothing sound of the tamboora gives relaxation to the mind. Fakir Juman Shah is always present at Shah Saein's Mazaar and recites "waai' there and other baits (verses). JEAY LATIF..!!

  • I love folk music!!! Shah sahab bht ala!!!

  • Hey, Coke's funding actual art! Mind: blown.

  • great music. the whole idea of devotion and longing for connection, whether it is to a lover or to the divine, fuels the best music. a new thought just popped in my mind - maybe the music that isnt connected in that way is the forgettable stuff that pervades global.

good to hear the bass enter the soundscape here BTW....

  • put on the subs...and this song potentially will be a super one....!

  • i hardly understand a word of ti but i'm in love with it.. Excellent stuff..

  • i love it..

  • YEH COKE STUDIO KEY PEHLEY KAMYABI HAI JO AAP NE SINDH SAY KUCH SINGERS SELECY KEYE. AUR COKE STUDIO SAY GUZARISH HAI K PAKISTAN MAIN BOHAT SARA TALENT HAI, SPECIALLY SINDH MAIN AS MADAM ABIDA, SANAM MARVI, JUMAN FAQEER, WAHEED LASHARI, USTAD GHULAM SHABIR SAMO.

  • .. no comments... its a fab track!

  • Haunting, and spellbinding!! This is what makes coke studio a superior quality program.

  • Rano the central male character also now a popular form of kafi immortalized by kafi singers like abida, m_yousuf, m_juman, ustad manzoor; rano is a ballad of Moomals’ love. have given translation of intro verses already; rest of the track; the fakirs repeat verses like Tuhinjay changay khay chandan charyan raana raho raat, kanwal chondeedyas kak ja, acheen jay; singing of moomal undying devotion by way of lotus garlands, the royal carriage lovingly cared for to celebrate love's return

  • @ greekkhan sorry its not SITAR but its TAMBORO which was invented by shah abdul latif bhitai.......

  • its so awesome

  • ok im touched

  • this is something special.......great people these....I loved it when the songs ends and the Fakir kisses his Sitaar,,,,that just tell you a little about the bond between music and humans and their humanity.....awesome!!!!!

  • @greekkhan its not sitar but its TAMBORO which was invented by shah abdul latif bhitti.......

  • @gawwk - In Sur Marui, there is no kak mahal. kak was the palatial residence of Moomal and not the palace of umar soomro. you are confusing Sur Marui with Sur Moomal. Sur Moomal is a love story between Moomal and Rano, set in dhat, which set is modern day India (Jaisalmeer if I am not mistaken).

Sur Marui is tragedy with main characters of Marui and Umar Soomro (the villian) based in Malir (not the one outside Karachi btw) which is in modern day Pakistan

  • amazing poetry by SAIEN SHAH ABDUL LATIF BHITAI

YE SUNTAY HI AIK WAJAD SA TARI HOJATA HAY

Q K MOOMAL RANO KI MOHABBAT NAFS KI MOHBBAT NAHI THI WO TO ROHANI MOHBBAT THI JIS JO SAIEN SHAH ABDUL LATIF BHITAI NE IN KHUBSOORAT ALFAZON SE HUMARI ROOH TAK PUNHCHAYA HAY

GREAT JOB U HAVE BEEN DONE COKE STUDIO

LUV u salam to alll those participate in this amazing beautiful video

  • it is beautiful. which language is it?

  • @purevibes This is from the Risalo (compilation of poetry) of Shah Abdul Latif Bhitai of Bhit Shah, Sindh, Pakistan and the language is Sindhi

  • Sindhi

  • @gawwk-this is first person narrative;moomal pleading Rano for forgiveness, alaap invokes lord's name; here raano & the divine one fuse; a common feature in folk music (mian, alo mian, sain, allah are commonly used words)

russ-u ma rusan ghoryo/dont be upset, let go of your anger

chud raana raidaee/raana,leave this rigidness this rage

Lapa tij latif chay, kamil khachaie/conceal my blemishes

    kar maaf madai/Forgive my mistake

ta sodha sukhiyani theeyaan mian/so that i am at peace again

  • Even in Umar Marvi ..

Where shall I take my camel,

    All is Light...

Inside there is Kak, mountain and valley,

The Lord and the Lord: there is nothing but the Lord.

    * Kak = Kak Mahal (King Omer Soomro's Palace)

Dude Shah saeen was the man !

  • @Gawwk - pls guide me where is kak mahal mentioned in Sur Marui?? kak mahal is not Omer Soomro's palace. kak mahal belongs in sur moomal ranu only; it is a magical/mystical place; with a web of mazes; dangers lurking; countless yound men losing lives in attempting to conquer kak & win over moomal. rano is the victor.. Dude! Shah Saeen was a man no doubt but a man who knew his geography and the difference between "kak" where moomal lived with rano and "kot" where marui was imprisoned

  • 1 - O mian, Allah mian… O God, my Lord (repeat) Russ ma russan ghoryo Even if you are upset with me, I am still willing to lay down my life for you Chudd raana raida-ee My lord, speak to me once again Lapay tij latif chay, kamil khachaie My lord, forgive your Latif for all his faults and mistakes Oooooo kar maaf madai Forgive all the mistakes Ta sodha sukhiyani theeyaanm mian I will only be at peace when my Lord will reciprocate my love
  • 2 -

    O Allah, kar maaf madai

My lord, forgive all my faults

    Waee (Vai)

Ao rana ruh raat tunjhi chaangul khay chandan chariyaan

My lord, stay with me tonight and I’ll make sure that the Beast (camel) you ride is taken care of as well

Raatiyaan deehaan rooh-a mein tann tunhinjhi taat

My lips move all the time remembering you, be it day or night

    Waithi nit niharyaan

I sit, gazing into the distance waiting for your return

  • 3 -

    Acheen jay pirbhaat

Waiting till the wee hours of the morning

Mookhay aeen mehndra waee tuhjhi waat

It is only the song of your remembrance (waee) that I have on my lips, my Lord

Adyun, Abdul Latif chaee daatar deedum daat

O sisters, the Lord will be forgiving and will shower his blessings on Latif

  • Classyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy. All the credit to Rohail Hayatt for bringing this style of music on the biggest platform of all. Truly representing Pakistan in totality starting from Bibi Sanem Janem , Alif Allah and now Momal Rano.

    Wah Wah

  • I didn't understand the Sindhi lyrics at first but I looked them up on the Coke Studio website and they're beautiful. I love how the voices/instruments seem a bit confused and lost at around 2:00, but they slowly start to find each other and turn into a beautiful melody of love and conviction.

Much respect to Coke Studio for introducing us to the beauty of Pakistan music in all its forms. :) This has been in my head all day.

  • Amazing

  • awesome

  • yar this is great

  • In these verses, Moomal is pleading Rano for his forgiveness. The faquirs of BhitShah use feminine intonation & mimic heroines of Shah's risalo be it Noori, Moomal, Sasui, Marvi. The female character, her pleading, her search is the key to Shah Latif's message of search for Truth/God, finding approval, solace in blessings of the Prophet. Please read about these stories & this type of music will start making sense.

  • it is a form of music that grows on you. i understand people can leave comments like "WTF" etc. i only beg the listeners to remember that despite being a piece of music that speaks of love between Moomal and Rano, a story of our cultural heritage made immemorable by Shah Latif, all these verses are steeped in sufi interpresations that speak about the good Lord and His Prophet at a larger level. I am sure if you listen to a Hamd/Naat, you would not go WTF. (Part 1 of 2)

  • @deevaan Thank you for explaining all this to the world. I have deep respect to all Sufis of the world specilly SHAH SAIN who spread message of love in the Sindh. We are very blessed by his presence in this land.

  • @deevaan I swear I don't understand a word, but this song moves me to the very bottom of the heart and already I have listened to it atleast 50 times. Those people who think this is a bad ("WTF") song, they should learn something about the saints of this region and their propagation non-violence, peace and harmony. That is why the Maulanas were so upset against our saints, as people were drawn towards them in huge numbers.

  • simply so spiritual

  • Message to ALL people .. Don't say anything at all if you don't have anything goOd to say.. .. Coke Studio's 2nd episode may not be that goOd but it doesn't mean that we should start cursing it.. "We Love it & We'll always Love it" .. Remember Jugni?? & other excellent tracks?? Rohail Hayat must be working really hard, hope 3rd Episode is better than this one.. Keep Up the goOd work-Sir Rohail Hayat, don't worry, we're all with U made us Proud.. .. Coke Studio Rocks - Pakistan Zindabad..
  • This is music of hearts and minds. This came from one of the music chapters written and sung by Shah Bhittai. This is written in hard sindhi language being spoken in Larr. You may not be aware that Sindh is consisted of 4 different Parts called Dhakan, Larr ( Wacholo (centre), and Uttar.Rohail this is great work and you may find treasures in Sindh Music which can rock the world. God bless u.

  • Assalaam o alaikum.
