Despite Joannie's one step out of her jump her program was superior to Mirai's. I think Mirai has potential to be great, watch her in 2014.
Joannie' s such strong, athletic skater, together with her leg lines, extensions out of her jumps, she NEVER under-rotates (as far as I've seen), never "flutzes", her speed, her edge work in step sequences, place her v high, imo.
Desperately sad her mum died, but SHE didn't milk that?!! I thought SHE was v restrained and dignified.
Yes she is a fantastic figure skater, but given her competition she did not perform to podium level. She has NEVER placed on the podium on any international level competition before(& probably never will again)& there is a reason for that. Her competition,Kim Yu-Na & Mao Asada are sensational & flawless.Rachel Flatt landed all of her difficult jumps solidly,Joannie almost fell twice.Politics is not supposed to come into play when scoring but in history the scoring has been corrupt & they are human.

Umm, yes, if you don't count the 2009 World Championships. Or the several other competitions (Four Continents, Grand Prix) where she finished higher than Mao Asada.
The only skater that is out of Joannie's reach is Kim YuNa. Everyone else is fair game for Joannie to overtake due to her quality jumps (never under-rotated), footwork, and artistry. And that's why she has the Olympic bronze medal.

If only we could give a metal to that young guy from Georgia who died in Canada right before the games started... Wait...he's not from Canada, that would have never happened. LOL
I think Joannie's short was excellent, Nagasu did long program well but, it wasn't that exceptional. Joannie deserves the bronze. I always like her expression, and the way she delivers the feelings to the performance.
everyone who actually watched can see that nagasu was much fuckin better then joannie.. only 2 people in the world breaks the 200 mark, and they are the best in the world... yet they just gave it to her... thats bullshit
Nagasu had a far easier program, that's why she skated cleaner.
I suggest you talk to people who actually know a thing or two about figure skating. Under this scoring system, Rochette's program was more difficult and complicated, and that's why she got the bronze despite the step-out on the triple flip.
she won because she was great, she has grace and skates beautiful, and her programs are great. she deserved that bronze!
she lost her mother few days before the short program and for me she's the truly champion (not just because of this, she's my favorite for almost 7 years).
After what happened she had strength and power to skate very well. Joannie is a real hero!

ur biased ass hell, she didnt' do better and she even messed up dumbass, in what way is she a true hero retard? whos lives did she save? yuna kim donated 100,000 to haiti, what has she done? nagasu didn't make any mistakes, theres no way her performance with a mistake is over 200, moron
Mirai was good and a far better skater than Flatt, her teammate but she was given a generous score. No edge calls and no URs when Mirai had some clearly questionable landings.
You should go check the protocols before complaining. Joannie actually got -GOEs. Butthurt much?
dumb bitch, if u seen it live all they did was talk about her fuckin sob story. and shes canadian of course they were biased.. if u dont think so ur a blind retard
Wow seriously, people are losing their moms everywhere and in some cases, some people don't even grow up with moms at all. What about the earthquake this past saturday and all the moms lost then. People are dying all around the world in horrific ways with no home to go to. If the olympics weren't in Canada, the result would not be the same.
yes I do, but that doesn't give her a medal. obviously i feel for her mother's death but i think she milked it all and received a medal solely because she was on home soil and it was a 'tragedy'. and thats NOT what skating about. at all.
And what do you think skate is about? If you say it's all about perfection, well you're wrong. Cause perfection doesn't exist. She did her best, she gave everything she had into her program, and they thought it was enough for a medal. I am not a figure skater and won't judge her perfomance but if I were a judge...I would take ''courage'' in consideration, as well as they did.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
COURAGE? SERIOUSLY? She wanted the metal more than to mourn her own mother. She wanted the metal, that's all. You guys are acting like she just came back from a war as a hero. Her mom died. Your mom will die, everyone's mom will die eventually. I am a mom and I will die. I hope my daughter will move on as well.
Rochette won because a) she was 7 points ahead of Nagasu leading to Free Skate b) Her long program under the new scoring system is of a much higher value. Fortunately, figureskating does not come down to a jumping contest anymore..
Please let this not be the best performance of this program this season!!!! This program could be so amazing, I was expecting so much after seeing this at Japan Open!
Wow, I have not seen this program before, and i have to say that, if she skates this well in Canada, she will bring the house down!! It really is a masterpiece in terms of music and choreography, and very very exciting. They couldn't have picked better material for an olympic year... good luck!
WOW!! what a great program!! this is packed with difficulty, technically and artictically, man if she skates this clean at the olympics i think shes going to give Yu-Na Kim a run for her money. GREAT PROGRAM!
I've always thought that final of olympic game will be between asada and kim, but now I clearly see rochette is strong competitor. (this season better than asada so far)
i'm more impressed with her PC score. i think thats her highest yet. she can easily improve her TE score, but i think its harder to improve on the 2nd score. good for her, i hope she wins both of her gp events like she did last season.

Are you seriously comparing Rachael Flatt's jumps to even Mao and Yuna? Even Mao made mistakes in her free program.
For the record, Joannie has placed on international podium. Clearly you HAVEN'T been watching figure skating at all in the last four years.

Is there a reason women figure skaters wear such little clothing? Not sure why I have never thought of it before but it just struck my mind.
IAmaPersion 1 year ago
It's just a classy way to exploit women I guess. But Women of the sport accept it.
LetsKillHipHop 1 year ago
most they actually wear skin-coloured tights/stockings. if you look at their legs and sometimes arms, you can see the darker colour of the stockings.
and i think it's because like a lot of contemporary & ballet dancers, they want their lines to be shown nicely

skating shouldn't be judged on a personal tragedy that happened in her life.
in the short and long program she was judged unfairly because of her mother's death.
since when did skating become about personal conflicts? it didn't.
