It was a straight rip of the VHS. Used an ADVC convertor to capture the VCR output into digital video. (DV video then XviD)

I wish I could de-murkify it. The video was pretty blurry already.

There certainly are ways. Use the best ADC you can afford, and then tweak the settings to get optimum picture quality. Also, use a modern VCR for the best picture going into the ADC. Actually, I've done my own rips of Zabagabee, let me know if you want to see them...
