  • great teacher!

  • For all I know he is incredibly fast

  • True Old School Cryptopsy Fans Checkout Nader Sadek Flo's new Proyect (2011), includes Steve Motherfucking Tucker (Old Morbid Angel), and Blasphemer (Ex-Mayhem). It's a Black/Death Fucking Sick Mix! Check them out! They have a Album Out.

  • @DrEviscerator666 really dude? sounds sick. what's the album called?

  • @THEREALCGHOST ,It's called "In The Flesh" - Nader Sadek! PM me and i'll send you a Private download link

  • 6 people think Joey Jordison is better than this guy...

  • what stick size???

  • @DeusUniversa10 Here he's using the "e-stick" but he uses the 5b extreme model now.

  • Personal opinion, not to bash anyone, but I think Flo is immensely overrated. I feel he's very sloppy, does not have very good style and or musicianship. Plus just about every album I have heard him play on has had a terrible drum recording.

  • Dammit I bought this DVD cause someone told me this was the New Cryptopsy album ! it's still cool but now I feel like getting a drum kit !

  • i want this guys hands and Kollias's feet

  • @filitalian I would rather have both the hand and feet of Kollias

  • @WolvesofTimberline I like his use of the'french' grip. It's hard to master but is potentially a very fast method for blasts.

  • @filitalian yes, its a very good method when done well. Not only for speed but also for endurance. Have you had a chance to check out Romain Goulon?

  • @WolvesofTimberline Checked him out before, yeah he's French grippin it... for obvious reasons I guess ;)

  • what is the point of creating a gap between your thumb and fore finger?

  • @UKrocketeer so the stick resonates against your hand and yet get a smoother hit if you understand that?

  • @AjaxpuffNstuff that really doesnt make any difference it just looks bad IMO, i have compared, but i dont think having a gap is benneficial

  • good lesson

  • One word: Godlike

  • @kentsmedblom: the black thing on the pad is just a hand towel. He mentions it elsewhere in the video. I think the pad itself is a "Real Feel" pad but I'm not sure, don't have the video here right now.

  • @eleventyjeff Thanks man! :) Why a hand towel is that for less rebound or?

  • @kentsmedblom Combination of less rebound (so your muscles have to train slightly harder) and less noise, I think. It's a while since I watched the DVD, to be honest. :)

  • Whats that black thing on his pad? anybody know what hand pads he is using? I was looking at getting some.

  • drum technique and rudiments were not developed with death metal drumming in mind, so you have to adapt the rules and techniques to fit the music you're playing.

  • Sick dude, Check out my new project, I think you might dig it...

  • his techniques are really good but I think the techniques all drummers use are rather personnal. But still, he's a kick ass drummer

  • Moving your index forward is the worst possible tip in the world, goes against every law ever created by percussionist. But this guy is good enough to do whatever the hell he wants. :P

  • @slinger3456

if it's the worst tip ever, can you recoment some video to play hand as fast from other people who don't share this tip? would be apreciated.

  • @groscave23 I am actually in DCI, if you haven't heard of them, then you don't know what a drummer is. The index tip is an awful idea because your index finger creates a fulcrum to keep control of the stick. If you move the fulcrum then your playing is going to be sloppy as hell. say what you want but this guys technique is shit. I did not say he was a bad drummer though.

  • @slinger3456 i think this confusion is coming from misunderstanding - he doesnt mean move the index so you lose the see-saw point, he means to create a looseness rather than tension. i believe he just means 'make sure the muscle skin tendon web between thumb and index isnt squeezed white-knuckle shut'. fine.

  • with that hand technique he must make some chick very happy

  • hahahaahahahah

  • @mexicutiner88

    All death metal drummers do.

  • back in those good old cryptopsy days..

    =(

  • what sticks is he using?? 5a??

  • @mateoarv looks like Vic Firth F1

  • hands at 3:16

  • Let's talk about the death of Cryptopsy. RIP

  • i have finally understood that foot techniques like 1 foot blasting is actually the same as a blast beat with the hands. like bouncing the basket ball with the feet, now i have understood it .

  • The foot technique is very similar to my way to play fast... :D

I love this: Floe gives importance to the POWER on fast double bass drumming and use a simple pedal, not a fucking Axis (!).

A lot of drummers abandon the power of the stroke and use only triggers...

    Great Job Floe!!

  • What's funny is that the way I play ONLY works with power. I use the rebound of the beater off the drum head and little taps just don't work.

  • Fucking cool!

  • this is crazy. His leg technique (for the first) is how i like to do it. The Second ways is the same except, my left foot always wimps out and starts to flam with my right. Go Flo!

  • what happened to good cryptopsy?

  • it died

  • he makes the second foot technique he shows look easy

  • its nice to learn from the best

  • it's similar to my aproach, but I use a little more weight from the legs... I think it's dangerous for the ankles to search for volume this way :S

  • my right hand is always more smooth and loud than my left.. what should i do

  • Practice left hand only, and try to match your left hand as closely as you can to your right hand.

  • take a drumstick and a pad, turn on the tv, and do singles with your weaker hand during your favourite tv show :D

  • Actually, using your arm ever in a stroke shouldn't be encouraged.

  • Thank you Flo for posting this.

    It helps me a lot.

  • haha amazing drummer, poor speaker

  • Foot and Hand Technique is a lot better than Foot and Mouth Disease.

  • @nordergute its far more punishing/brutal

  • His right foot has a smooth technique. But it seems his left foot doesnt have enuf ankle control as his right. Thats y his left thigh moves a lot more than his right does. Observed it too in his other videos. Can u guys notice that?

  • ok, i got one question for any one to answer. By not moving your legs, and just using your ankles. Don't you have to flex your hip flexor muscles muscles for stability?

  • my question exactly! i cant figure it out, im try to use ankle but my hip flexors arent capable of holding my leg and using my ankle without feeling like i have to leen back and fall off my throne. lol

  • How high do you have your drum throne? I find that this works best with your drum throne elevated slightly higher than normal so your knee is bent more than a 90 degree angle. Your ankles are more free to move without throwing off your stability.

  • Yes, you should. Also, he's "wrong" by saying you don't use your hip flexors. What's really important with this technique (I also use it), is that you do use you hip flexors for balance AND control. That's also why you have to sit a little higher than normal and a little further away from the bassdrums. That way, it's easier to keep the balance. Hope that helps.

  • Yup mine tighten after a good jam

thats why repetetive workout playing rudis at a wide range of Bpms helps

for ex. I play sets of paradiddles, singles triples and doubles as well as reverse or at least thats what I call that one :) they really help its alos helpful to practice your doubles just as much as you would singles

I know what people are thinking but it really helps alot dont worry you wont lose the abillity to play clean singles :) for more good workouts just check out roddy's book

  • Not so much. It would be like sitting on a very high stool where your feet are dangling. Your body would be balanced and you can just vibrate your feet without having to stabilize yourself too much. The only difference is you are sitting down near the floor and your feet are resting on the floor. I use this technique often as it lets me worry more about playing rather than if I am going to fall off my char or something like that.

  • imagine how much of an ass kicking drummer you can be if he was your teacher

  • he offers lessons check his website have to me in montreal though :(

  • i really dont understand why flo doesnt take on the WFDs. theyre all a bunch of pretentious fags and flo seems fast enough to put them in their place

  • Just like any sport you have to train specifically for it and have to take time away from playing music. Don't get me wrong Flo is an excellent drummer but hes got a long ways before his hands are as fast as mangini's and his single stroke feet are as fast as Tim Yeung's. I don't think he does doubles on his feet like Waterston though.

  • a monster...

  • should i bring my beaters closer to the head if im gonna do the heel down pedal dribbling? Generally i play heel up with my pedals at almost 90 degrees from the bass

  • Hey just wondering, im using this techinque with the same pedal and settings, i'm getting quite good at it but is it bad if the muscle that burns more than anything is the hip flexor and upper thigh muscles?

  • go to a gym, and run on a treadmill for a half an hour a day... or find a good spot to jog, I prefer a treadmill because it's actually less stress as the treadmill gives unlike the pavement which is stiff the burning is muscles you typically do not use at all... I feel no burn when doing double bass because I can't keep smooth and even left to right to the actual point when I would be working those muscles because I work out 4 times a week... lots of running and weight training...

  • hey i have the same problem with my hip flexors they burn like crazy. did u ever get any advice on wether its a good or bad thing?

  • Thanks a lot Flo. Lots of practice this guy has put in.

  • really good tips, what I liked the best was the fact that he's one of the few death/black metal drummers that is concerned with volume and doesn't relly mostly on triggers.

I give him A+ for that!

  • dude is just a monster..

  • he makes it look so darn easy

  • great drummer... despite what anyone thinks about the band, you cant give flo shit for it.. you gotta atleast respect him and how good of a drummer he is.

  • Beast!

  • does he use double bass drums or double pedals

  • double bass.

  • looks like your pedals need some lube!!! ;)

  • yea that comment was kinda harsh lol i was having an argument with a ned earlier so i was kinda in disgust mode.. hate neds man.. they are the same as junkies!

  • OK thx blue cams thats all I needed to see Lolz :P

  • phenomenal drummer!!! cryptopsy doesn't suck... the only thing that sucks is ur fucking girlfriend.cant wait till she gets her braces off, coz shes chippin ma bobey, daft slut that she is!!! fuck ur cryptopsy comment bawbag!!

  • what's a "bobey' i'm assuming it's your pathetic little string bean that your sister mangles to cryptopsy garbage.

  • whoa whoa whoa I know he made a shit comment but thats kinda uncalled for if he does have girlfriend

  • they do now but they used to rule

  • he says he uses the ball of the feet to push it down? does he mean the ball near the toe? or the heal?

  • toe

  • i think he means the upper part of the foot, away from the ankle.

  • Youre tha mann!!

  • the best !!!

  • Where's the "Make The New Album Suck" trigger?

  • Lokiskywalker, Greatest comment of the year, thank you.

  • Hahaha. +1

  • is that singles at 5:35?

  • yup.

  • i thought he'd be speaking about brutal necrosis and gore, amputation, or something

turns out he's an amazing teacher, gladly sharing techinical tips

  • puma

  • well fuckin shit god damn thanks for correcting me

  • Oh and does he use triggers because most death metal drummers use them

  • nope

  • He really does. Listen to some of his live stuff.

Admittedly, if he didn't have any, his speed would make all of his faster double kick turn into a massive rumble.

  • i know, i wasn't thinking. I was listening to None So Live and can clearly hear the kick drum is triggered

  • Does he use Axis? because drummer's use different pedals at times when showing demos. Id appreciate a comment back

    thanks

  • he uses pearl eliminators i believe. not axis im pretty sure.

  • Super!

  • What sticks are those? They look very long but not very thick.

  • Im guessing there Vic Firth sticks cos hes wearing a Vic Firth T-Shirt

  • Does it matter what sticks HE uses.

  • I asked because I've been looking for longer thinner sticks, you misunderstood me :)

  • Fair enough, Get some 5A ones.Vater. Plsatic Tips

    very good..........man im drunk hahh

  • Flo, your pedals are a little squeaky... Grease those baby's up!! maybe you'll be ever faster!?

  • how does one set up a practice kit like this one? can someone help?

  • it's not rocket science

  • He's a good drummer, just headfucked.

  • why head fucked?

  • Insulting an alienating a fanbase with your newest release, interviews and actions. Parading like it's best thing you've ever done, only for people to realize its a sub-par version of every other band you're attempting to sound like...seems like the makings of someone who's sadly headfucked.

  • ahh i havent seen any interviews of him in these recent times... bummer...

you gotta point haha, although as shit as the new album is... the drums do play pretty smoothly.

  • see flo is a cool guy! too many haters on this guy.... he might have sounded a bit arrogant talking about the new album but he is still a great drummer nonetheless. pretty good tips too! john longstreth needs to make a video

  • that finger tech. made me cream my pants

  • wow, rly cool. i always practice those fingers but mine dont sound like that :P

  • i have that same double kick, Pearl Eliminator P2002B :D

  • does he use the belt drive or chain drive ;o

i have the chain drive one anyway and there great XD

    all pearl eliminators are great

  • It looks like the chain drive but i'm not 100% sure

  • yeah its chain.

  • how does he set his pedals??

  • im slow on double bass is there like anything i can do to like make me faster, like a technique

  • Practice. When you play you're exercising those muscles and as you work them more and harder they become stronger and faster. And you, of course, can Google calf and thigh exercises.

  • well for me it really helped to tighten the tension on your pedals really tight, Just to build up the muscles in your legs and ankles for you to be able to push harder and easier with less effort. after a while I loosened my pedals very slinky like so I wouldn't have to push as hard on the pedals, and before I knew it I was playing alot faster and easier after I developed the muscles in my legs. Try doing that for a while, it worked for me.

  • damn. his fingers.

  • thank you so much.

  • cool man. he shows in detail.

  • This is the most helpful drum video I've seen so far. And I've seen many.

  • any1 have any tips on cleanin up the ankle movement technique cuz i got the speed but i cant keep the consistensy up for that long

  • practice very slow, to teach your reflexes the proper motions and to build ENDURANCE, the best thing a drummer can have. good luck =]

  • This helped me so much, the foot technique with only the ankles is PRO.

  • NICE ! AWESOME VIDEO ! and good information.

  • VERY informative...I always wondered how he achieved his hyper double bass.

  • my favourite drummer for sure.

  • same here

  • pretty informative and helpful, keep making vids :P thx.

  • That's some pretty fast handspeed there ;)
