There's a big scandal with reliability, especially concerning ammunition, that has been partially covered up; though thankfully it has been brought up; it can fire very well French-made 5.56 ammo, but has shown failures and/or trouble firing NATO-ordered Israeli-made 5.56 ammo as used by the US Army, for example; sometimes the shots would begin dropping past 25 meters, making it absolute shit in combat. We ought to replace this stupid gun, really!

@SuperReptus The "Austyer" rifle isn't "German" it is based on an "Austrian" weapon and if you're joiing the ADF now then you're likely to at some point use the next generation "Austyer" wich will be largely Australian but with a more "American" flavour lending from the ADF's more recent deployment experience.

the fuck is wrong with you people. France has been a major military power historically, starting from the classical era throughout the middle ages and even today. Yes France surrendered quickly to Germany in WWII but Germany was a great military power at that time.

The FFL is not considered in France as special forces and it will never be as such due to its size (7700 men) . The only elite unit of the Legion is the 2eme REP which is currently one of the best parachute regiment available.

We have alot of weapons in dif detachments of the ground force tho so until im in i wont learn much until i get taught. @SuperReptus The "Austyer" rifle isn't "German" it is based on an "Austrian" weapon and if you're joiing the ADF now then you're likely to at some point use the next generation "Austyer" wich will be largely Australian but with a more "American" flavour lending from the ADF's more recent deployment experience.

@SuperReptus Most people may get Austrian and German mixed up, the accent and language is much the same hahaha! But true, Styer Corp is Austrian, they also make farming equipment and the like. I believe the next gen Austyer will be a marked improvement, it'll be able to mount new scopes and other equipment, might have been easier to swap it for the H&K 416 the SAS guys have been using. It is rooted in WW2, many Americans think France fell too easy when Hitler invaded and they feel that if France had fought harder USA wouldn't have been dragged into a war in Europe. Illustrated by an American joke: It isn`t a World War until the French surrender. That crap aside, France isn't weak, Germany was just stronger. France which was in greatest danger by germans never thought about any strategies or actions how to stop germans if they would start war. The SAS do more than just that, they fight, MI5 work, hostage situations, behind enemy lines sabotage, joint operations, operations with the Navy and airforce etc. So the SAS are better.

The FFL on the other hand are some hard bastards, perhaps harder than any special forces, simply due to the fact that they are willing to die for another country. The shit the FFL go through is worse than any SF training, because the French don't give a fuck. They only see the soldiers of the FFL as expandable forces, they send them into war to die, no more no less. They are equal.

In actual fact, it is stated that the British are the best at Counter-terrorism, the US is the best at Search-and-rescue/destroy and the Australians are best at reconnaissance, so piss of with the bullshit that the SAS are the best and they have the hardest training. EVERY SF has pretty much the same training scheme, because they all need it to become elite.
