oldie but a goodie, eh! Yes, she is Canadian, from around Toronto I think. Breathe From Another was a collab with a musician/producer guy from Minneapolis, I think, going by the name of "Doc". The record was actually recorded at Doc's studio and they submitted it as a "demo" to the label...which said, uhhhh, it's too good to be a demo, we're selling it as is! Which is unheard of these days to have such a technically advanced recording go from home to broadcast, with no label intervention!

on a completely different note, the live arrangement here is as excellent as the album version. as far as the first album goes, Doc deserves most of the credit. not that Esthero's voice isn't everything you'll ever need to hear, because it is, but it was just an accessory on Breath From Another.

I firts heard Country Livin' on chris rock's movie "I think I love my wife. The song instantly caught my attention so much..that i had to fast forward to the end of the movie . once i found who the singer was ..i looked her up..and fell in love with the whole CD. This was back in 2007. I listen to the Cd all of the time..and i'm black.

She's been around that long? Man, it makes you wonder doesn't it, the fact that Bjork (i don't hate her but shes not that great) can become some huge worldwide success with multiple grammys while Esthero has stayed relatively unknown. She uses her voice like an instrument, taking full advantage of every subtlety and controlling each note with mastery that very few singers have now. And it doesn't hurt that the music behind her is just as awesome. Why is she not as popular as so many others?

@TraciH123 WRONG!!! Bjork dropped her first solo album in 1993. Breath From Another Came out in 1998. I find it amusing that Esthero herself has named Bjork as being a big influence, but some of her fans can't get past it.

Saw these guys play in Boston during this tour years ago. The show was delayed because the band had to go bail the guitarist out of jail. Genius got busted outside the club smokin' herb in the back alley :)

No. Like, Esthero is the singer... the band is just the traveling back-up band. First album was her and a DJ named Doc. 2nd album is just Esthero the singer.  The band is a group of session workers.

Doc Mckinney is the producer who plays the guitar in this video. BTW, the guy is a genius producer. Anything he has touched is gold check out Res and Graph Nobel. No one else has been able to do Esthero's voice justice (except maybe Esthero producing songs herself!) I am guessing he did the arrangement for the music in this video as well. After her first album, over 10 years ago, they had a falling out and went their separate ways much to the disdain of Esthero/Doc fans.

To this day, Esthero refuses to talk about the motivations for this songs lyrics. Many fans speculate that it is about the senseless murder of Adrienne Jones by Diane Zamora and David Graham. The case was a big story around the time the song was written.
