Patton was the War God. If SHAEF had given him the 400,000 gallons he would have had his armies in Berlin before Winter of 44. But the lousy top brass would not listen. War is hell. In War you need War Gods. Thanks to the shitty ending of the war an entire continent of Europe became threatened by communism---which being pure evil dominated half that continent and our country's budget for decades to come. WE should have slammed the Russians as Patton desired to do as THEY were our enemy!
What a great speech, and exactly to the point! Berlin! was the point of it all along. Not Montgomery....I think they should refilm the Patton movie with todays technology and what we have learned since,
That comparative nobody Bradley outranked Patton goes to show how much of a don't-rock-the-boat bureaucracies modern militaries are, and how a controlled leftist press molds people's view of historical figures: Ernie Pyle portrayed Bradley as "the soldier's general", beloved by his men - when in reality, most of them had no idea who the hell he was. Not so with Patton: some of his men hated him for his showboating & dress code (ties - even in battle), but all respected his skill at war.
@hoopbird They would never do it in this age of "political correctness". Patton was a inspiring, strong, willing, smart, general. The film is very educational indeed. Patton was arguably one of America's greatest leaders.
george c scott portreyd patton to the t patton was a hardsass all threw the scuffles with pancho villa and world war 1 during ww2 in europe he was a fearce old goat that commanded respect not because he was a hardass but becuse he earned it it is a true shame he died in a jeep wreck the man was a tactical prodogy and a great commander as said by some of his troops and also stated they were proud to be under his command
Right now America needs a General like Patton to kick rag head ass and a leader like Lincoln to keep the country united. During the Civil War Lincoln had any major public figures, mostly those from the press imprisoned on barges in New York harbor for the full duration of the war. Lincoln could ill afford any nay sayers as he struggled to preserve the Union in its most hazardous time in history. Alot of left wing Americans would have their asses locked up until we obtained victory.
@mountainstandardtime Why don't you move to a theocratic middle-eastern state if you favor tyranny over freedom? It seems you favor becoming the enemy you so eloquently describe.
Bradly almost ordered D-Day to stop and withdrawl. When the Battle of the Bulge happened, Bradly was totally outclassed and PATTON had already figured out the German Army was going to launch that kind of an attack and (as history shows) took elements who had been fighting for 2wks straight, turned them 90 degrees, marched 100 miles and within 48 hrs of that movement 90 degrees engaged and defeated the attacking German Units! Yes the "Weather Prayer" was real--god would not argue with PATTON!
@Eddyisrich403 110% agree with u. As u know a film came out as the same yr as STAR WARS which supports the film PATTON. The film I write of is A BRIDGE TO FAR---in PATTON "Patton"is trying to get various armored columns moving & Bradley shows up telling him they are taking all his fuel and supplies to support "Monty's Operation"---Operation Market Garden--Bridge to Far--
@rangeclerk Yet Patton's lack of fued was a result of his OWN decision to ignore logistics. He advanced without a single thought to how he would be supplied, outran his supply line and he to resort to using captured supplies or stealing supplies meant for Hodges 1st Army. Eisenhower and Bradley actually told him to halt for a bit so supplies could be brought to him but he refused. When he ran out before the Mosselle River he blamed everybody but himself.
@rangeclerk MARKET GARDEN recieved less support than Eisenhower promised it because of Patton and Bradley. Upon learning that SHEAF was going to give priority of supplies to 21st Army Group Patton threw his whole army into battle with no preparation or plan so supplies would have to be sent to him & Bradley convinced Eisenhower not to send extra supplies & manpower to 21st Army Group so 12th Army Group could launch an attack into the Hurtgen Forest & continue to support Patton's drive on Metz.
@monkeyboy4746 I think what General Bradley meant was that Scott was so close to the actual person that he could have served under them interchangably.
Karl Malden's restraint perfectly counterpoints Scott's domineering acting. Malden played Bradley as the voice of reason to Scott playing Patton as the voice of passion.
Nope. Karl Malden played the perfect foil to Scott. His unassuming demeanor and style only made Scott's performance only shine even more. Rest in peace, Karl.
narrator sounds like the guy from the honeybadger video.

Misleading title. Scott was overwhelming, not Patton.

Patton is one of the few WW2 Hollywood war movies that is actually very accurate - prolly bc its based on Bradley's book

Wow, that was a real hit from Bradley, General George C. Scott!? I guess he really did't like Patton all that much.
