Philip married Audata after he defeated her father Bardhyllis, so it was the Illyrians who got his ass kicked and then made to sign peace treaties. The Kings of Epirus were at war with Illyrians for most of their history. Pyrrhus was an exception, because he was saved by Glaukas of the Taulanti, who had become a regional power after Alexander the great died.

@Bardh87, I don't think you understood the quote. Macedonia and Epirus became allies to fight a common threat, Illyria. Philip married Audata after he defeated her father Bardhyllis, so it was the Illyrians who got his ass kicked and then made to sign peace treaties. The Kings of Epirus were at war with Illyrians for most of their history. Pyrrhus was an exception, because he was saved by Glaukas of the Taulanti, who had become a regional power after Alexander the great died.

Alexander I the Molossian, for example. Illyrians sacked Dodona and cut down the Oak Tree, while Molossians were the guardians of Dodona. Molossians spoke Aeolic Greek, same as Thessaly, but were eventually influenced by Doric from Ambracia. Pyrrhus didnt conquer Greece, he took sides with one group fighting another.

The international terms "Albania" and "Albanian" are based on the root *alb- , *arb- , which also is the source of the word Arberesh , which is used to describe the Italo-Albanians of southern Italy.

@Bardh87, Epirotes have never been called Illyrians by any ancient historian. In fact, all of them mention them as separate people, and as enemies. If Strabo and others differentiate between Epirotes and Greeks, it has to do with how Greeks on the periphary of the Greek speaking world mixed with barbarians. The Epirote kings believed of themselves to be Greeks, so why are you speaking on their behalf?
