You're actually playing the main/chorus riff all wrong, lol. You're playing it on JUST the low E string. That's the bass riff. Seriously, watch this video for the right way to play it, /watch?v=B0w9Y2vxljM
OKAY seriously guys sometimes there's easier ways to play songs. not every guitarist needs to perform the song the EXACT same way as the guitarist. SHUT THE FUCK UP.
Simon pues esta mal el vato, asi no se toca el riff... Si son las notas pero 1) no es la digitación y 2) no lleva esa 6ta al aire... vean los videos de dimebag en vivo y verán la manera correcta de tocar el riff
he play the same! tha dimebag you can play from 12 fret 6th string or from 7fret 5th string it is the same notes.!!! but Dimebag play from 12fret in original from 7th fret is easier ) but sounds the same :D :D and how it can be wrond if sound like dimebag play ? :D i
I was actually considering buying one of your DVDs until I saw this. If you can't transcribe something fairly easy like the intro riff correctly, what hope is there for the solos?
It's obvious just from listening to the record that the first part of the intro doesn't have any open Es, It's the main riff played entirely one octave up. It's also evident that Dime played it on the 3rd, 4th and 5th strings - you can easily hear the difference in timbre from the way you're playing it.
@10Dante4 He's a much better player than I am, which is why it's obvious that he wasn't trying his best to sound like Dime.
I wouldn't mind, but they are actually trying to sell this video to people who want to play like Dime, so he could at least transcribe it properly. It's not a difficult riff to figure out, and anyone who's played for a couple of years should be able to hear the difference between picked notes, slides, bends and hammer-ons, as well as the different timbres of each string.
@10Dante4 well its true... It's an instructional video, I want to learn how to play it the right way... Would you not? Okay so he does not have to sound like him, but it's fight'n words like that, that cause the "Bad Company" cover... Play it right first before innovate..
:) I like this guy, he's a very good guitarist. So for him to take the time to "look at" the intro riff for Cowboys From Hell just shows his patience! :D
I have seen Dime play this live with the accompaniment of the pedal tone E note and the effect under it. He does play it in seventh position but he does have the luxury of the effect under it. I am getting ready to learn this for my band where I am the only guitar player and I am going to do it this way so that I can keep that pedal tone going and not have it sound like I am playing by myself. Maybe it's just me but the way it's shown in this video seems logical for a single guitar player band?
sorry to say this, but this is wrong. andy is a great guitar player, but intro riff is not quite correct. check out Dime's Riffer madness for details...
He's playing it technically ok, but there's no groove and that's what made the original so good! It's also too slow and that causes it to sound wrong too.
Love how all the twats on Blabberdickinmouth are going on about how they're better than Andy. LOL! In... their... dreams! Yea, Andy is playing this "wrong", but to say he's no good is the biggest joke.
There is alot of stuff from this that's played in the wrong positions but the notes are right so don't worry to much (THIS IS STILL AN AMAZING DVD). just take a look at what dime does then just move the position... not that hard really.
@teazy94 yea it doesnt matter what position you play notes in, as long as it is the same octaves and notes, i like to play riffs on the higher strings and lower frets because it has a brighter sound
@col33145 yes but its still wrong, when he plays the intro riff he lets the cord open like 3 or 4 times, wich is wrong than on the other riff the is a power chord on A and it is all basicly hammer ons and pull offs
@TMetalFromHell yeah i do not play it like that ,,but Andy James is one of the best players i have seen ,,my bet due to copy write he cant teach the proper way ???,,still cool
@SlayerSp777 Its not wrong he just plays it in a different place. Its exactly the same. He just doesn't use the D string. And it sounds more chunky cause he plays most of it on the low E. It does sound better the original way but you couldn't call this wrong.
i've seen a few Andy James' instructional videos. this is the first bad one. and this is not how CFH is played.
