If the electoral college is not seated by Senators or Representatives, Then who are these state appointed people? Are they Lawyers, Judges, Business Men & Women? Does anyone know? Can I be on the electoral college? The troubling part is that these people are NOT REQUIRED to vote as the majority in their state did. Unless you trust these APPOINTED people who you do not vote for and don't know, your vote for the president doesn't count for shit.
I have read up on the EC and it was invented because the founding fathers did not trust the American people to select the President. I hate the EC. Its an insult to my intelligence. I want to ask the candidates what they think because if they dont they dont trust the American people and have contradicted every thing they say. We are not stupid.
I agree it should be based on the population not the size of the state. States don't vote afterall people do. A state is just some imaginary lines drawn ona map.
Yes I support it because if we get rid of the E.C. then it will reduce the representation of smaller states. Abolish the E.C. and u might see a splintering of parties. Example- Iraq (Shiites and Sunnis is bad
Representation should not be based on the physical size of the state, but the population. Getting rid of the electoral college won't decrease anyone's rightful representation. And it's not really about the states anyway. It's about each individual citizen. (Plus, I don't think it makes sense to compare the situation in Iraq, which is so religiously influenced, to the situation here.)
@herpfounder - Abolishing the Electoral College, in combination with the 17th Amendment, would effectively kill the last shred of State power.
State's are no longer "sovereign" and equal to the federal government as originally established, we are no longer a Republic, we are quasi-Crony Democracy and we should return to our foundation.
