@harry811 lol you HAVE to be kidding, right? And you have serious mental problems, most likely a sociopath. "paid by the hour"? you have to realize that they have strict speed limits. The speed they are going is the correct speed. But you will most likely never realize that because you are a sociopath.
@harry811 Plus, this stretch of track had yellow signals which means a slower speed. Harry, you're an idiot. If you would listen to the conversation the guys were having it sounded like they were wanting to go faster.
i know they don't use the utility poles no more, but they should at least go and fix them, its gives the railroad more of a historical look when riding the train.
My father is retiring soon and has always had a love for trains. He worked as a brakeman for Union Pacific when he was younger. He is one of the people who scouts for really awesome train crossings and loves watching them. I was wondering if you know of any companies that let people ride along in the cab for a specific length of the trip, and if so if I could get him a ride as a present (and one for myself, this looks so awesome). Anyway, thanks for the cool video. This is great!
@TWFsbeast Whistle boards are located like speed boards a few feet from the tracks and differ depending/between which road you are on and how old they are. The CSX uses a white board with a black "W" as its signage. The Southern used a tall rectangle with three black stripes as its markers. Hope this helps.
@soundguyjr a little i just need to look more into the railroad i guess lol, i want to be an engineer myself, thanks for trying to answer it for me im just not all that knowledged with the railroad i guess, hey man add me if ur up for a new friend to talk to lol
@angelbrook2 the conductor probably is given information about the train since it is his job to manage the consist. That information is relayed to the engineer. Also keep in mind that railroads have mileposts so if the train is two miles long then the engineer knows the end of the train has passed after passing two mileposts.
DATCAPITAL im seeking some advice. I assume your the engineer of this train! Ive been applying at UPRR Roseville Ca. for about a year. Ive applied for three things not related to Train Crew and haven't been interviewed. To get a job in general am I doing something wrong? Does it take persistence or what? Do I need to apply for Train Crew positions only to reach Engineer some day?
LOL at the poles down. See any insulator collectors arround there? :P Yeah there definitely out of service. Either the wires were put underground or it's microwave.
A few years back, UP and BNSF were working on putting their communication lines underground, using fiber. The trackage in these videos is joint UP/BNSF. North of Chemult, UP goes northwest towards Eugene across the Cascades, and BNSF continues north through the High Desert to Bend and beyond.
Green is same as a traffic light - proceed. Flashing yellow indicates the need to immediately slow to 40 mph and be ready to stop at the 2nd signal you come to (after the flashing yellow). Solid yellow means slow to 30 mph and be ready to stop at next signal. Red without a number plate on the mast (pole) means stop and do not pass. Red WITH a number plate on the mast means stop and proceed at restricted speed (or move past at restricted speed, now). These are Union Pacific rules.
Mobile phone can be so handy for us if used properly. Mobile phones are often used during fault finding. They are also used to contact drivers and supervisors in times of service disruption to trains. Also, a mobile phone is considered a backup communications device in the event of a radio failure.
If we are responsible enough to drive a train, we should be considered responsible enough to use a mobile phone when needed and when it is safe to do so using our judgment and risk assessment.
I was wondering when the train is about to go down a steep grade, can some-one explain how the Dynamic Brakes are set.

@calif1mc No Pioneer on this track. The only Amtrak service is Coast Starlight.

9yearoldtrashman 8 months ago
@9yearoldtrashman No, it's Upper Klamath Lake, near Klamath Falls. The train is heading northbound.

35 MPH is the only speed they can go. Why not 50 MPH. These guys are getting paid by the hour, not by the job. That why they take their sweet time.

Interesting, steady video!
Unfortunate to sound horn for private crossings where no one is approaching or present. Same with crossings protected by signals and gates.

Are you familiar with the operating rules of this railroad? How do you know that they are not permitted to use the phone to conduct business.
Maybe the phone is there to assist the crew in operating their Goddamn train?
Metrolink was an accident that resulted from improper use of a communication tool.

it doesn't matter what crossing it is, u have to blow the whistle at every crossing, it's the law

sometimes city law will ban whistle blowing for certain crossing.
NSAaron 3 years ago
In California you must blow for private crossings. In Oregon I will blow for all public and any private crossings that display a whistle board.
