Wow I watched this movie before the whole "Sherlock Benedict Cumberbatch" thing and I remember these scenes and I remember thinking her husband was so adorable and the actor played it brilliantly then come to find out it is Benedict Cumberbatch and I just get a whole new view and feel for these scenes. Its like watching them again for the first time. The same thing happened to me with Martin Freeman and "The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy" as well.

Oh, also? I know the entire film isn't particularly historically accurate, but the music at the beginning of this clip sounds very much like Irish or Scottish folk music; it's most likely that in reality they would have been dancing to English folk music at this time.

Still, Benedict's grin at around 0:10-0:12 is infectiously lovely :)

@VeggetableMonster As much as I enjoy interpreting him as gay in fanfiction, there's no evidence of it in any of the canons. If the books had been written nowdays, then I would agree with you, but back then the amount of touching and emotionality in Holmes and Watson's friendship was normal. The closest Holmes has ever come to being gay was RDJ's interpretation of his character... but in the actual writing of the Guy Ritchie film, he was over-heterosexualized, so it balances out.

That means that his entire life and lifestyle consists of solving crimes and transporting himself places (via taxi, one would suppose) in order to solve more crimes. Sex and romance are not things that he's interested in - because they're not crime mysteries - and he certainly doesn't have time for them. The implication is asexuality.
