we had a neighbor who had a pitt bull. that dog was the best, smartest, most loving and loyal dog i knew. he was an unsurpassed guardian for their 2 year old son. he would always get excited when we came over. he wanted us to play and give him attention. he was my favorite pet that they had. he was a true angel.

The american pitbull terrier is not a lethal dog! Big , some of them are but most are 50 to 60 pounds.Strong for their size yes and with so much heart. There are bigger stronger and more people aggressive breeds! Get a clue and dare I say it think for yourselves!
Mine stands 26" high and weighs 100lbs. My Gentle Giant. He has never bitten anyone in his 13 years of life, and now even his dog aggression is going away. I guess even dogs mellow as they age.

It is probably not a bad idea that pitbulls are illegal in areas where dog fighting is very prevalent. This will help law enforcement catch people abusing these animals and actually protect dogs. However, in areas where there is little to no dog fighting they should be allowed. Comparing pitbull attacks to drunk driving deaths is also fallacious. DUI is prohibited exactly because it's dangerous. The assumption (which is *not* proven by the movie maths) that pitbulls are less dangerous than DUI does not mean pitbulls are harmless. If the argument were meaningful, I could use it to prove serial murderers are not a big problem - after all, atomic bombs (DUI) are far more dangerous than serial killers (pitbulls). It just makes no sense.
i think that its more comparing alcohol (pit bull) to DUI (pit bull attack). pits attack because of careless owners, DUIs occur because of careless people. just because a person drinks does not mean they will get a DUI, only the idiots that drive will have that chance. just because a dog is a pit does not mean it will attack.

exactly my point. we are causing these accidents by careless behavior. owning a dog is a big responsibility, as is owning a car, or raising a child, the dog is not responsible for causing harm if that is what it was taught to do.
most of the deaths were due to careless actions on the humans behalf. however, some acts of nature were to blame. my point was to show how rediculous it is to kill millions of dogs.

We're blaming the breed today for what they were misused for a long time ago.
I've known a few and even considered adopting one at one point. (I felt too bad to take him with him leaning against his handler for comfort, I think he was planning on adopting the dog himself)

ROFLMAO, you dare me to "man up" with answers. But when I do, you're too cowardly to post most of the things I answer to you! BTW I never said anything about wanting to "ban" the breed, Ms. Spin! It's about spay/neuter vs. intact and excessive breeding & dumping. Breed Specific Legilstaion has helped greatly in SF. Responsible ownership is way up. And death by dumping is way down. Do you have some sort of problem with that?

you are 100% right vicky. another thing u shoud think of when debating is why do pit bulls kill more people than other dogs? mabe because... um... this is a real brain buster... um... there stronger and bigger? i was attacked by this retaeded little poodle dog the other day, but i dint even care because one kick and it was gone. think of how many other attacks there are like this one, ones that go undocumented and arent even factored into your equations

Hmm, no they dont. PIT BULL is any stocky dog with short hair, how many damn breeds and mixes is that? The American Pit Bull Terrier accounts for very [VERY] few dog attacks. Its all comes down to genetics and a well bred APBT is a lot damn safer around people then even a well bred Lab.

Bottom line vicky, you can place your children into danger if you like, but, you have neighbors with kids, and we choose not allow you to put our kids there !!!!!! It's probably pretty good odds that my daughter will not choke on a piece of candy if she's running around the yard with it in here mouth, But, on the outside chance that it could happen, I won't allow her to do it !!!!!

I have a Lab that would have mauled and eatten your children[and anyone else that came aroudn me] in about 3seconds. Now I have an American Pit Bull Terrier that wouldn't hurt even a baby kitten, oh and I have a mutt that is awesome. Have anything to say about that?

Why would I want a dog where I'd have to worry about ANY of that? I'll get a Boxer or a Beagle or ANYTHING else!! A friendly Lab vs. a friendly Pit Bull... both friendly but one has a MUCH higher chance of playing the domination game and winning with their strong jaws and stocky build?? Here's where you are badly misguided: Any dog can have that attitude. Any dog can hurt you. Any breed can dominate. If you are a crappy alpha, then your beagle is as likely to run rough shod over you as any other breed. If you can't handle ownership, don't have a pet. But don't fault me because I'm capable and happy with my pets.

It is probably not a bad idea that pitbulls are illegal in areas where dog fighting is very prevalent. This will help law enforcement catch people abusing these animals and actually protect dogs. However, in areas where there is little to no dog fighting they should be allowed. Sad that a certain breed need to be banned for their own safety/the safety of others and others who love the breed must pay.

To M946: Un-neutered males, chained, are the most dangerous dog, regardless of breed. They are responsible for the great majority of dog attacks on children. Pitties and bully breeds should not be banned but chaining should be!
I fear humans more than dogs. Humans have proven themselves to be violent and demented and apathetic and dangerous time and time and time again. I ALWAYS know EXACTLY where I stand with a dog. No hidden agendas!

Better questions = why lie about the website report? And why focus on only deaths to humans by pits, but overlook injury to humans, death to other dogs, and injury to other dogs, caused by pits.

"pit bull type" killed 118 people
"pit bull type" = 26 breeds
118 divided by 26 = 4.5
that's not so different from the video's info. you act like she made up some crazy # to trick everyone?

kromebutterfly, that's wrong math. Number of breeds (your divisor) is a diversion. You should have divided by years in the study (19). So the answer is 6.2 not 4.5.

Comparing pitbull attacks to drunk driving deaths is also fallacious. DUI is prohibited exactly because it's dangerous. The assumption (which is *not* proven by the movie maths) that pitbulls are less dangerous than DUI does not mean pitbulls are harmless. If the argument were meaningful, I could use it to prove serial murderers are not a big problem - after all, atomic bombs (DUI) are far more dangerous than serial killers (pitbulls). It just makes no sense.

i think that its more comparing alcohol (pit bull) to DUI (pit bull attack). pits attack because of careless owners, DUIs occur because of careless people. just because a person drinks does not mean they will get a DUI, only the idiots that drive will have that chance. just because a dog is a pit does not mean it will attack.

Great Job on the videos, I forwarded them to everyone I know. I have an AmStaff that I use to show people how great they are and how important it is to work with dogs and be responsible, any breed. I have been bitten by more dogs then I can count but never by a pit!!!

Nice video- tell that to my nephew, he has one arm- the other was ripped off by someones fucking precious pitbull, not to mention the stitches he needed to fix the mauling over most of his left side. Cuddly, sweet, wonderful dogs, they are.

exactly my point. we are causing these accidents by careless behavior. owning a dog is a big responsibility, as is owning a car, or raising a child, the dog is not responsible for causing harm if that is what it was taught to do.
