The present NATO operation in Libya is based on a call for help from Libyan civilians as well as the Arab League , approved by the Security Council ( UN ) . This operation is to protect Libyan people . It would have targeted Gaddaffi himself and end the whole war a long time ago if this was its aim . And who is G. Gallaway to describe all the governments of 22 Arab countries as " puppet " leaderships ! His statement is false .
Surely , there is difference between unilateral intervention in foreign affairs and meeting a call from people of a nation seeking international help to be protected from the aggression and brutality of their Dictator . If the world does support this oppressed nation then who will protect them ? There is a political and moral responsibility on civilized nations to cooperate and stop military aggression of crazy dictators , such as Gaddaffi , on their people .

There being oil in Libya doesn't mean that's why NATO is attacking. There's been oil there for thousands of years; if we were so keen to grab it then we could have used the Libyan bombers, or Galloway's own admission that Gadaffi is a 'known supporter' of terrorism as an excuse. NATO doesn't attack any old oil-producing nation, and has a track record for intervention more for humanitarian reasons, such as in Kosovo, and indeed now in Libya

There being oil in Libya doesn't mean that's why NATO is attacking. There's been oil there for thousands of years; if we were so keen to grab it then we could have used the Libyan bombers, or Galloway's own admission that Gadaffi is a 'known supporter' of terrorism as an excuse. NATO doesn't attack any old oil-producing nation, and has a track record for intervention more for humanitarian reasons, such as in Kosovo, and indeed now in Libya

What's wrong with self interest? 6.5 million Libyans standing on Europe's doorstep is a pretty massive issue: if Gadaffi wins, we'll have to deal with a few million refugees turning up in the UK. if not, we have an Islamic state a few hudred miles from Europe. Oil argument? all centered on steady supply and keeping energy prices in check (this hurts economy), not defending specific companies. BP or ENI are on a lose-lose scenario as their investments will likely be nationalised either way
