@Webber147 Would you cop on. The equipment years ago was worse than now, and there were alot better players in the 60's to 2000s. Joe Davis being one of them.
@Webber147 shows your lack of knowledge with a comment like that,do some research on higgins throughout his career and who he beat and then you wont make such a remark and to be fair this is a crap clip
@Webber147 You also have to account for different cloth and conditions that were used back then. I'm a snooker fan and I love and enjoy studying all players. I believe if Higgins lived and grew up in this era, his success would have been the same. He was a true genius.
Higgins and Reardon were good in their era....but you have to say with this standard of snooker they would struggle to be even in the top 32 with the quality of players that are around now! Higgins was an enigma, he could mess up even the easiest of positional shots and then pull off an impossible one...very inconsistent player but fascinating to watch!
@Webber147 dont u talk a load of crap .. watch the 1982 semi final break against jimmy white.. watch the pot on the blue such side and screw. or the long black when he had an easy snooker.. one miss and he was dead .. such guts . bigger balls than buster gonad.
Ray Reardon is the only man to whitewash steve davis twice. Look at the table and balls here it was a much harder game in those days. Remember Reardon and co were playing exhibitions on different tables every day looked after by barman. You cant compare the standards they have today.
@Webber147 To be honest you don't even deserve the vision ao watch or appreciate how amazing Higgins was. My dad used to to him to tournament in the 80's, Preston, Edinburgh and more, my older brother set the balls up for him in practice too. Higgins ability to pot any ball anywhere was out of this world, not only that what he could do with the cue ball was totally alien, his ability to instantly read a table in safety play was unseen. He was the greatest player ever to grace a table.
@Webber147 yes man you are allowed your opinion, but saying your a better player than me is a bit rich considering you dont even know me, I still play althouigh not as much as I used to thanks to the kids, just once a week now and then pool on a thursday night, do better at the pool was 4th in the IM tables for the whole of scotland last year, but like I said snooker needs commitment and money to get anywhere, it's incredibly difficult to make it nowadays,
@Webber147 dude your comment just show's how little you actually know about the game of snooker, after ronnie he was the most naturally gifted player ever, even more so than white
@Webber147 "no offence to his die hard fans but higgins was good compared to these helmets but in his prime he wouldnt be able to take a frame off a top 32 player of the modern era."
Really?? Higgins style was copied by all the modern players. He created the scope for them to become top players, by playing his attcking snooker as opposed to the chess-like style of Reardon, Spencer et al

@Webber147 Alex Higgins, at 40, defeated Stephen Hendry who in that same season won the Asian Open, Dubai Classic and the UK Championship and the following season won the World Championship. Jimmy White, who came from the eighties continued to be competitive in the nineties. Alex was always a match to Jimmy so had he been Jimmy's age he would have adapted. Tony Drago has recently lost only just to World number 6 (at the time) Day.
He was 20 at the time and was probably intimidated because Higgins liked to punch/head butt people or tell them have them shot.In snooker their are players who are the best potters but LACK CONSISTENT position play(Higgins,Drago,White)vs. the ones who combine great potting with CONSISTENT position play/safety when the missing the pot could give away the match.(Hendry,Davis,O'sullivan)The first group is more entertaining but not the best. Superior cueball control and playing the percentages wins.
