@mxPRO121 go look up a 2012 ktm250sx. it weighs about 30lbs less than most 450s from this year and makes about 5 horsepower less than them. also they cost a lot less and are more fun to ride. and they sound like dirtbikes. not lawnmowers

@mxPRO121 the 250 2 stroke has wayyy more torque AND horsepower AND its cheaper 32 ft lbs of torque, while the 250 4 stroke ktm only has 19 ft lbs of torque (just read it in MXA magazine). the 250 2 stroke is at a minimum of 10 horsepower more than the 4 stroke at every rpm.. also, the 2 stroke costs $1800 less to buy brand new than a 450f, and not to mention how much cheaper maintenence is on any 2 stroke + the 30lbs of lightness they have on 4 strokes

@motocrosskid492 thats good, but i prefer to spend less money and have a lighter bike is a nice plus. without 2 strokes. if i was looking at brand new bikes i might consider a 4 stroke, but a used 450 in my price range is a ticking time bomb. 4 strokes are smooth and get better traction tho. its preference and price range. 2 strokes are still a vital part of motocross

@zombi105 dude stfu,my little brother races a crf150r and we have nothing but problems with it,twostrokes are pound for pound the basest bikes out there,just look at the 125cc twostrokes they have the highest hp and torque per liter then any other dirt bike so before you wright learn first next time kid.

i used to use 2-stroke bikes, for example ktm sx 125 and 150. but then i bought ktm sxf 350 and i can say, its way better than any 2-stroke bike i have ever drove. for hps its pretty much same than 150 when it got better exhaust, but it got much more nms. but driving features its awesome. its so easy to ride with it because you dont have to change gears so much. you almost can ride hole track at same gear,

I would probably race on a 2 as bike choice, but as rider choice my hours are on a 4 so I would probably end up on my 4, I have gone through the 2stroke faze many times, I got a YZ250 but I didnt like the speed so I got my TM and it is the ULTIMATE 2stroke BEST I shit you not.
But that was a faze, I always go back to my 4, I can wheelie with my eyes closed on my 4 ffs, 2strokes are demanding and too zippy
For the dickheads who like to talk 2stoke this 4stroke that but probably can't even ride properly to see any advantage/disadvantage, you are all WRONG. I have got 2 bikes, KTM250sfx 2009 and TM 144mx 2011, 4s are heavier and less agile than 2s but the power is much more controllable you got it when you want it, 2s are easier to throw around but you need to ask for the power then wait for the response, I would take a 4 if I had to choose because they are straight forward to ride.

@Studdfromhell Man i've been riding for sometime now and you need to ride a 450 more. I love 2 strokes though. 450s have a lot of power stock. Way more bottom end and more hp stock vs stock against 2 stroke. But I'll stay on my 08 ktm250sx until i get another 250sx. I had a 450 but it was a lot easier to ride. Love the snap of the 250sx better though. I wish 2 strokes would make a come back but for now I'll keep beating 450s because i'm the better rider.
Ive owned 3 two stroke DB's. 2 yz's and 1 CR. Every one of them i had constant problems with and rebuilt top end at least once. granted they ripped ass no doubt. but my 4th bike i have now is a suzuki rmz 250. It is faster than my 06 yz250 just barely and no problems since.
2 stroke- Just as fast as 4 stroke depending on rider and MUCH MORE MAINTENANCE
4 stroke- Just as fast a 2 stroke depending on rider and MUCH LESS MAINTENANCE

@1919938 Stewart rides a 450 because that's what he gets given. The reason 4 strokes are pushed by the Japs is because they can't sell 2 stroke street bike in the USA. Racing is a form of advertising, why advertise what you can't sell. 4 strokes need a 100% capacity advantage to hang with 2 strokes. If you put a CR250 against a CRF250, the CR will cane the CRF. Be realistic please. CC for CC lb for lb, the 2 strokes murder the 4 jokes.

@mulisha0351 You are lucky....EVERY ktm I have owned and raced has been a money pit! I have had several Jap bikes and only but money into suspensions and Top ends (obviously tires) , but that is the same with KTM's except I've needed new cases (because of cracking under load), bottom ends (every 25 hrs), etc. Now if I had a closer dealer (nearest one is 4 hrs away) and if they actually stocked parts I might have a slightly better opinion!

Both 2 and 4 strokes are fast bikes, im not hating on neither one, but why do you think most pros ride the 2 strokes when there at home or riding in there own time like James Stewart on every fan ride day hes on a 2 stroke yz250, and Ricky Carmichael rides a 2007 rm250 now that hes retired and 2 strokes are way cheaper but do require more skill to ride and that's just a fact not an opinion , I've rode both and i get lazy on the 4 stroke because you can ride low or high RPMs and 2 ringing itsneck

Promps for your skills. and for the rest arguing over 2 vrs 4. ive been riding for nearly 30yrs. I prefer n always ride 2 stroke. 4 strokes were complete junk untill they put in diff cams timing, ect to make them have the wanna be 4 stroke power band. without that the 4 stroke would utterly fail 100% against most any 2 stroke. so think again. "THEY (MANUFACTURER) HAD TO MAKE" the 4 stroke be able to compete against the 2 stroke. in other words. 4 stroke no mod = no balls!!

@Studdfromhell Man i've been riding for sometime now and you need to ride a 450 more. I love 2 strokes though. 450s have a lot of power stock. Way more bottom end and more hp stock vs stock against 2 stroke. But I'll stay on my 08 ktm250sx until i get another 250sx. I had a 450 but it was a lot easier to ride. Love the snap of the 250sx better though. I wish 2 strokes would make a come back but for now I'll keep beating 450s because i'm the better rider.

Ive owned 3 two stroke DB's. 2 yz's and 1 CR. Every one of them i had constant problems with and rebuilt top end at least once. granted they ripped ass no doubt. but my 4th bike i have now is a suzuki rmz 250. It is faster than my 06 yz250 just barely and no problems since.
2 stroke- Just as fast as 4 stroke depending on rider and MUCH MORE MAINTENANCE
4 stroke- Just as fast a 2 stroke depending on rider and MUCH LESS MAINTENANCE

@1919938 Stewart rides a 450 because that's what he gets given. The reason 4 strokes are pushed by the Japs is because they can't sell 2 stroke street bike in the USA. Racing is a form of advertising, why advertise what you can't sell. 4 strokes need a 100% capacity advantage to hang with 2 strokes. If you put a CR250 against a CRF250, the CR will cane the CRF. Be realistic please. CC for CC lb for lb, the 2 strokes murder the 4 jokes.

a 2 strokes takes alot more effort to be able to have in band the whole time as which a four stroke u dont have to use the clutch as much and pluz 4 strokes are powerfull all round which a 2 strokes is only relly fast in band

A ttr is a trail/fun bike....a KX is a race machine....huge difference! But, 4 Strokes basically need double the displacement! Although my RMZ450 will rip any 250 Two smoke!

@RecceMan90 disagree, i have owned several ktms 2 and 4 strokes. not a problem yet and every one has been raced many times. i have seen more people put money in jap bikes than ktm owners.

@mulisha0351 You are lucky....EVERY ktm I have owned and raced has been a money pit! I have had several Jap bikes and only but money into suspensions and Top ends (obviously tires) , but that is the same with KTM's except I've needed new cases (because of cracking under load), bottom ends (every 25 hrs), etc. Now if I had a closer dealer (nearest one is 4 hrs away) and if they actually stocked parts I might have a slightly better opinion!

if you look at a 2-stroke 250 and a 4-stroke 250 the engine on the 4-stroke is obviously alot bigger but yet the 2 stroke can still beat it so I DONT UNDERSTAND WHY SOMEONE WOULD WANT A 4-STROKE MAYBE THERE TO SCARED FOR 2-STROKES(: i mean its basicly that a 4-stroke needs a bigger engine to stay up with 2-strokes:P

Both 2 and 4 strokes are fast bikes, im not hating on neither one, but why do you think most pros ride the 2 strokes when there at home or riding in there own time like James Stewart on every fan ride day hes on a 2 stroke yz250, and Ricky Carmichael rides a 2007 rm250 now that hes retired and 2 strokes are way cheaper but do require more skill to ride and that's just a fact not an opinion , I've rode both and i get lazy on the 4 stroke because you can ride low or high RPMs and 2 ringing itsneck
